Okay, how does armor coverage work? Does having coverage over 100 actually do anything, or is layer size the only way to make armor more effective?

I fare just fine with swords. Thing is, which some creatures you should STAB, not slash. If the target is kobold size or smaller, slash to your heart's content. Pommel, shaft, or haft strikes are also more useful than you'd think, if you're using copper or silver.

Flat slaps are largely just to troll your target though. Then again, stuns happen more often, so it might be useful if you WANT to leave your enemy alive.
My experience is that any major body part with a thick hide or armor, you're better off stabbing unless you have a really strong sword material and good Strength.

It's impressive because swords are awful.

Battle axes (with the flat/haft attacks removed due to them being stupid) > picks > vanilla axes > swords (with flat/haft attacks removed, long > 2-hand > short) > swords > spears (unless huge target with vital organs, naturally with flat/haft attacks removed) > daggers and such.

War hammer > mace > heavy shield > corpse > a bag of water > maul on the other hand.
Well, regarding having flat attacks and such removed, I very very very very VERY rarely use unaimed attacks, so I couldn't care less about those.

I like how everyone else is super-skilled at this and can do all sorts of amazing things and I'm too stupid to make an adventurer that starts with LITERALLY ANY NON-SWORD WEAPON WHATSOEVER be anything but a worthless piece of shit. My ally landed a lucky hit on a fucking vault demon, I made myself a ≡frosty metal short sword≡, and after spending 20 minutes fighting, I cannot injure a single simple fucking goblin because I dared to commit the heinous crime of trying to start with something besides a sword (a war hammer, which I also couldn't even wound the goblin with despite having 10 levels in hammer with an adventurer with max Strength and absurdly good stats as a species).

I tried changing the 2-handed size and it still gave me the same result.

Is there a way for a ranged weapon to be fired without a free hand?
Umm... don't they ALWAYS work that way? otherwise, what's with the archers getting shields?
I believe Pikachu17 is referring to a way to fire ranged weapons without even having to hold the weapon itself.
Ranged weapons are fired with the same hand that holds it. If it's a two-handed weapon, then it's both.

The game begs to differ, so I dunno what you guys are talking about.

Is it possible to make a non-hostile megabeast, or are they automatically hostile?

So, in overrunning the landscape, the zombies have abandoned their camp, so I decided to take a look.

yep. This one tile seems to have somewhere around 70 or 80 chests/bags, too, and there's plenty of tiles with things in them.

EDIT: Correction, closer to 90 bags. There's loads and loads of steel armor here and I can't wear a single fucking piece of it because it's all too big for me.

that's.....interesting....you think it would be dead by now...

have you tried going for the legs or gouging out its eyes?
I should clarify - it's a zombie.

Do small or internal body parts, like lungs or ears, count in calculating the relative size of body parts?

Is there a way to add body parts to an existing creature (as in a single creature, not the whole species) without transforming them entirely?

The zombie apocalypse has officially begun. D:
I have been. For some reason, my sylph's kicks are far more lethal than her silver mace, so I've been caving skulls in left right and center. My ally, an archer turned swordsman, sadly died, despite my best efforts.

This here L (highlighted in white, as it wouldn't show up against the brown) is a Leafeon. I have been attacking this Leafeon for the past 200-something turns, a combination of kicks and slashes (with my fallen ally's sword) to the head, neck, and upper body. It's not showing any signs of dying.

Now I understand why the game slowed to a crawl on the overworld here. They're not hostile for some reason, but...

...Words fail me.

Motherfuck... How do I force my allies to swim? I've given them [AMPHIBIOUS], so they can't drown, but even if I get them into the water, their AI just shuts off. And before you say anything about rivers, it's a small ocean that I need to cross.

2824 zombies total. Funny thing: Because I officially loaded all of those zombies into history as actual figures, they are causing fast travel and (especially) sleeping to lag.

I like how the goblin zombies still have glowing eyes.
I like how one near the bottom only has one glowing eye, presumably because the other rotted out.
