i dont know, their heads are fairly high in the sky, so cutting them off falls away. But then again, that applys to sauropods too (if it matters at all ;) ). Also, i have seen worse, like goblins attacking my fort and drowning in the river because their animals were aquatic.... A whole siege died in that river, and my dwarfs feasted on their mounts :D

No Meph, you have never played a mech game:

Big mechs (sauropods in this case) hit hard and can take punishment, but smaller mechs (giraffes) are faster, more maneuverable, and they get underestimated.... Well, maybe the tigermen were just riding on their provisions....

But giraffes are deadly, they aim for heads a lot of times

Maybe the upper torso just means the part with the behind two legs. Loosing that is painful, but a centaur may be able to fight after that.... But he would certainly die because of the bloodloss close after...

Hi Meph, thanks very much for your work on the mod generally and the manual for MDF2 Alpha.

I note that the manual states the Legion dwarves do not learn any labor skills, which means they lose out on the attribute gains from the usual stat-boosting labours like mining, smoothing / engraving and pump operating.  Will this make them weaker soldiers in the long run compared to non-Legion dwarves?

no, seeing Darkhawk in the succession game should easily prove the exact opposite :D The problem with the "long run" is, that even when you play super-secure, you may run into a situation where you have to use your untrained militia. There, fighterdwarfs, berserkers and especially legion dwarfs shine, as they have higher starting stats and learn faster in the battle itself. Also, using a legion dwarf in a legendary reaction will boost him up to.... what was it Meph? Legendary + 2? Totally epic. Also, NO_Pain ;)

DF General Discussion / Re: The Elf, A theory
« on: September 20, 2012, 01:21:16 pm »
Dear Sir, i regret to inform you that recent "surgery operations" on dead elves by Urist McBloodysaw and Urist McTreehater revealed a disturbing fact regarding the elves tendency to trade their parasite-wood against metals, glass, and even stone.
The tests showed that elven parasites, if fed with materials of dwarfen origin, grow stronger, which has a direct effect on the elf in question. In our example, Urist McTreehater had his head torn off by the surgery object, before guards were able to ensure that the elf remained dead. This happened after exposing the parasite to a superiorly crafted iron mug. According to this, the conclusion is obvious: Elves are able to be repaired, which gives them the ability to reinforce their armys as long as they have access to their bodys and materials made of metal and stone.

Although this has not been verified yet, leading scientists (including the famous Urist McDrunken) believe that human crafts may serve the same purpose, but may leave the elves weakened, possibly due to the superior quality of dwarfen goods. Messengers to human settlements have been considered, but the idea was abandoned because of the close contact of the two races.

Every dwarfen overseer is advised to stop trade with the elves IMMEDIATELY, and (as long as the fort is able to do so) to destroy every last elf in sight, and to destroy the bodys. Magma is perfect, but just throwing the bodys down a deep pit should also be sufficient.

This Mod should be named Artifact Dwarf Fortress. I can just imagine Meph running around picking up mods and bringing them to the modding workshop to start the construction :P

Fellmood, where he randomly butchers mods (and modders) to make a unholy pile of mods, only designed to drain the life and the time of every player....

 Spoiler Alert:

That would have been the first steps anyway ;) Starting a race right away would be like being a engineer in your first year and starting with nuke-making. High chance of being blown into tiny bits and even if it works, someone elses nuke would be better :D

Also, i will have time until MW2 is finished, and before that, making a plugin of considerable size would drag a lot of work behind it as you go on with modding. But, i think a invasion race is much easier, or am i wrong again?

Im reading myself into modding at the moment, and if Meph buts out a better version of MW2, i will start making a plugin.... not sure about which race though, will take a lot of experimenting and testing i feel.

no, keep wild armored animals in the game, as a rare thing! Nothing is better than a steelclad sauropod stomping your first seven dwarfs into nice little dwarfenpancakes :)

What is wrong with you people? The guy on the picture has this delicious pangolin snack, and shortly after that pic was taken he took a healty bite out of it. They are delicious :)

I update my dwarfing request to include the job of hammerer. Beating up pangolins will be considered a crime against society. Also, nice derail :)

Don't judge him, we need food and that looked edible.

I judge you, Ishar, for beating up something this cute! I request a death sentence for the responsible dwarf!

well, the raw recruit with the ability to whack enemys with books (thats library training, right?) it will be then.... Twohander, if possible ;)

No worries, coarse mithril is iron grade, but light.. mithril is steel grade, but light... and patternwelded mithril is still the very nice material you know from the old mod. It is just that you can now choose between using it early for "light" iron or steel, or save it up for later, and make very good material with it.

so, Mithril replaces iron in earlygame, steel in the midgame and is a really good material in lategame.... So, as long as i have mithril, i dont need any iron ore, sounds good :)
