DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Why So Easy?

None of my games end in brutal murder anymore. No goblins lay siege. No kobolds steal or kidnap. Very few giant beasts prowl the land. No titans show up. Nothing forgotten raises forth from below the earth.

It's been like this for the past dozen or so worlds I've created. Nothing EVER shows up to kill me regardless of what my world settings are. Am I the only one experiencing this? What's the problem? What happened? I play Dwarf Fortress because of the senseless brutality and sheer difficulty in keeping things going. What's the point if it all just ends up being Baby Hand Holding Simulator?!

DF General Discussion / Lack of Hostiles

So I recently booted up Dwarf Fortress for the first time in a while with the most recent updates... And, apart from the odd werebeast, I'm not encountering any hostiles in fortress mode. No titans, no forgotten beasts, no goblins and no kobolds. I've created three different worlds and thus far I've not encountered anything except werebeasts. I've not put a fort in any evil biomes or near towers, but I have gone out of my way to make sure I'm embarking in areas with goblins as neighbors.

Anyone else experiencing this?

DF Suggestions / Separate Alert Queue

I think that there should be an additional alert queue for certain things such as lack of specific resources to perform certain duties, or the discovery of valuable ores and stones while mining. It annoys me to no end that my screen is constantly flooded with 'discovered jet' and 'cannot perform Plant Seed task' alerts. Therefore, I propose that there be a separate queue for alerts of this nature. Whenever one of these alerts is received, a flashing exclamation point pops up in a corner of the screen alerting you to the presence of information that you might want to know.

The announcements screen can be kept open for important events such as Strange Moods and Thieves and Sieges. That is information that we might want to know about quickly, so would continue to scroll across the screen like it usually does.

I just get so tired of seeing the same message play over and over again, especially when I've already acknowledged the problem and am currently working on a solution to it. It grinds my gears.

'Job Cancelled: No milk-able creature available'
'Job Cancelled: No Available Source of Fuel'
'Job Cancelled: Lack of Tanned Hide'

DF Suggestions / Tastes Like Sober

Vampire Dwarves currently have a problem in that they gain negative thoughts from being sober due to the fact that they can't drink alcohol anymore. I believe that this shouldn't be a problem so long as the Dwarves they drink from are not sober themselves, as alcohol can be found in the blood.

They might even gain positive thoughts if they drink from a dwarf that has recently imbibed the vampire's favorite beverage. Vampires might even be inclined to only drink from Dwarves who they have a favorite drink in common with. If the Vampire's favorite drink was Strawberry Wine when they were living, the Vampire might be more frequently inclined to drink from Dwarves whose favorite drink is also Strawberry Wine.
