My dwarves are so happy that over half of my fort is made up of dwarven babies.

Dwarves be humping, yo.

Zombies aren't particularly picky about who they are attacking. It sounds perfectly feasable to have a fortress defense system based on dropping attackers into a pit of zombies, though in the end the result will just be, more zombies.

Dig a pit underneath that pit that feeds straight into hell itself. Wait until you have a zombie army several hundred strong, then drop them in to see what happens.

Tantruming Dwarves can already be captured. By getting arrested. Did you mean Dwarves that have gone insane?

I'd very much enjoy an optimized inventory management system. Instead of appearing in a list form, the items appear in order based on where they are on the body. It'd look something like this:

Right Hand: Iron Axe
Left Hand: Iron Shield

Head: Iron Helm

Torso: Pig Tail Shirt; Iron Mail Shirt; Iron Breastplate; Cougar Leather Cloak

Right Arm: Iron Gauntlet
Left Arm: Iron Gauntlet

Groin: Rope Reed Trouser; Iron Greaves

Right Foot: Rope Reed Sock; Iron High Boot
Left Foot: Rope Reed Sock; Iron High Boot

Quiver: Iron Bolts x25
Backpack: Forgotten Beast Roast x3; Iron Crossbow

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Exiling dwarves into the caverns
« on: June 20, 2012, 11:51:07 pm »
I have a vampire in my fort somewhere. Once I locate it I'm going to train it in the military and send it to one of the caverns I discovered to see if I can train it to legendary status in all combat skills. This can't possibly go wrong.

My Speardwarf had a finger bitten off by an FB. It was the only injury he received. He's been in a coma for a year now. It was a snow FB, too, and didn't bleed at all so I can rule out any syndromes.

Angst coma, maybe?

You could always add a training skirmish feature where you pit two squads against each other in mock combat. When you select your squads to do that they automatically go and pick up some nearby training weapons and start wailing on each other.

Any injuries that result would be excellent training for the doctors. The handful of doctors I have are all varying degrees of Rusty and V. Rusty in their skill sets because every time I send my soldiers into combat the only dwarves injured are the ones that die.

DF Suggestions / Separate Alert Queue
« on: June 20, 2012, 05:38:26 pm »
I think that there should be an additional alert queue for certain things such as lack of specific resources to perform certain duties, or the discovery of valuable ores and stones while mining. It annoys me to no end that my screen is constantly flooded with 'discovered jet' and 'cannot perform Plant Seed task' alerts. Therefore, I propose that there be a separate queue for alerts of this nature. Whenever one of these alerts is received, a flashing exclamation point pops up in a corner of the screen alerting you to the presence of information that you might want to know.

The announcements screen can be kept open for important events such as Strange Moods and Thieves and Sieges. That is information that we might want to know about quickly, so would continue to scroll across the screen like it usually does.

I just get so tired of seeing the same message play over and over again, especially when I've already acknowledged the problem and am currently working on a solution to it. It grinds my gears.

'Job Cancelled: Cannot weave cloth from plant thread'
'Job Cancelled: No milk-able creature available'
'Job Cancelled: No Available Source of Fuel'
'Job Cancelled: Lack of Tanned Hide'

I KNOW! STFU!

Bah.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Mining Drop Rate Change: Good or Bad?
« on: June 19, 2012, 06:10:27 pm »
Where are you getting that statistic, exactly? Because I'm definitely getting less lignite now than before.

When I was playing 34.7, I was managing to get almost all of the valuable ores out of veins whenever I mined with my miners minus maybe one or two stones. I updated to 34.11 and now I'm only getting a fourth of that. My metal and clay manufacturing industries have ground to a freaking halt.

The new system is really ticking me off. Who mines valuable ores with anything but legendary miners? Instead of mining a whole vein of lignite and getting every last stone out of it, now I'm only getting a fourth of what I normally mine. I NEED THAT LIGNITE!!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What do you name YOUR forts?
« on: June 19, 2012, 02:55:09 pm »
I never could figure out how to name my Fortress manually.

I don't really believe that would add anything to gameplay. Truth be told, it sort of irritates me whenever I DON'T see at least a few dwarves idle every once in a while. To me it makes me feel like my fortress isn't running efficiently at all due to a critical backlog of work that needs doing.

DF Suggestions / Re: Throwing in fortress mode.
« on: June 18, 2012, 04:59:45 pm »
Throwing a spear before charging in melee is a historic tactic, but it mostly applies to army combat, not the small skirmishes found in fortress mode. It's not a 1 on 1 tactic. So I'm not sure it would be good to include it.

Doesn't mean it can't be implemented, though I'd likely lean more towards having a belt of small axes, or hatchets, for throwing. Just seems more appropriate for the setting.

You mean procedurally generated vampires with random abilities and temperaments ranging from badass to total wuss? I like it.

What if the vampire only kills occasionally, but when it does the slain dwarf rises up and attacks the fort as a feral ghoul that's every bit as powerful as the vampire? That would up the threat level significantly, for those who think it's a good idea.
