I think it's funny when people have ideas that have most likely been on the developers agendas for years. Don't worry this will probably happen. Keep In mind this is 0.34.10 alpha, Nothing is final. I think people sometimes forget that this is an open source, free game, in early development. While they take for granted how complex this game is already.

Maybe a XshirtX would automatically be taken to be repaired. So instead of useless piles of "XshirtX" all your shirts would be patched up and worn again.

I think that it should be decided how the world works and what dangers the dwarfs will face before worrying about the dwarf social life. For now, they are too mentally backwards to think about this, "politics." t

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea, But dwarf fortress doesn't have the foundation and mechanics to allow for this complexity, yet. I mean that not even the physics of the world have been finalized. Much less the complexities of society.

I would guess that there is a long term plan for something like this. Just based on some of the traits that seem without much purpose, IE. rebelliousness and the like.

There should be at least one way this could hurt you. A couple of posters did say something about a possibility of failure causing !fun!. I agree, this should be a fun idea. But at the moment it seems quite overpowered. You get a legendary teacher, and the ability to make flamethrowers. No way to have fun.
It was also said that strange moods are quite frequent. As I see this idea, it should be a rare (and very nerve racking) time that a dwarf is stuck by brilliance. On one hand you could get an awesome dwarf and a new toy. But on the other hand there is the risk of torching five or ten of your dwarfs. 
One last thought, if the dwarf was depressed he might take advantage of the flamethrower, and go berserk after finishing his creation.
