DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Choosing a civilization
« on: February 03, 2013, 10:27:39 am »
hm i played this civilization just because i wanted to know what will happend.
i played it for 2 and an half years (i did not pay attention because i was watching tv and pressing space in the game, till all dwarfes went insane ;-) )
but the migrants appear every season, i got 6 waves till the end (every new dwarf was a member of my civilization, so no idea where did they come from, becouse as i said it, we had no cities.)
and the traders also did visited me, with the liaison.
So it seems that noone cares that my civilization is dead, so is this a bug or did all these  dwarfs were just hidding and waiting for an ne home and the question is also from where did come the tradegoods.

DF Gameplay Questions / Choosing a civilization

I can coose an nation as my homeland which has no cities.
and after i embarked i viewed the civilization and there it stands: This land has no importand leaders.
So what means this for me ?
will i ever be visited by dwarven traders?
will someone migrate
can i ever become an barony, and if yes, does it mean that i am then the leader of this civilization

Ok i like your mod and played it a few times.
But did you deactivate Kaolinite, so there is no way to make porcelain, but this is not such an problem, or i never found some in your mod ^^.
But two things happend to me that i never had in the vanilla version
First the traders (dwarfs) destroyed my tradedepot, and yes i could keep their things in one of my games in the 1st year and than again in the 3rd year ....
and the second bug happend in two worlds, if i bring tradeitems (no matter what : weapons, armor, toys, crafts, food .....) before the traders arive my tradedepot
they simply take it. When I open the tradewindows all my things were gone and belong to the traders and i don't get nothing.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Mountain hall neighbors

Maybe, the undead were not easy to take.
I played a lot of games in the near of mountain homes, towns or towers
the undead allways come in great numbers 80 + sometims withs necros (i had once 4 of them)
The necros might run away but the undead will stay, the siege can go for years (till all of them were killed)
The earliest siege i ever had was in the second year, the 1st dwarven caravan just left the map and they started the siege …. 78 undead against 11 dwarfs :-)
the undead don't wait till you reach an number like the goblins.
i also had once that one of my wardogs died  (i don't know why) but he become an undead and run to the butchery …. and we had an lot of undeads ….
i also had once an ambush as the human caravan entered the map the guards killed 3 goblins, the goblins become undead and killed the humans and then they also become undead (this all happens before i had any undead siege or necro on my map, no idea how or why this happend)
Also some funny things : an undead siege startet about 80 undead, than an ambush of the goblins startet and the 7 goblins killed all the undead.
Playing in the near of the undead means allway to expect that an undead-epidemy rises somewere somehow, you need an good military if you would like to keep the traderouts open if not, its also possible to stay in the halls for years. But an neverending siege means there were no migrants or trade caravans (they tried but after they were all butched a few times they don't try it again). Even if you make it once to kill the undead still noone is coming to you home after it. I waited three years after a 6 year siege and noone visited me anymore.
But the nice thing is if you can survive with an good squad the guys will have hundreds of kills and all become legendery with they weapons. As I said if they survive long enought.
Oh and allways clean the map, bring every corpse inside or even better destroy it.

So i played for a few more years
after this two years of siege i strike back - killing the complete undead army with 10 crossbowman
and then 50 again ... killing them again and then 50 again and i kill them ...
than i had about 4 month of peace and the caravans did came back first the elven, but their trader was killed so no trade
than the humans, yes we trade after 5 years the first time, during the human visit an siege again ....
than the dwarf caravan visited me and again an siege .....
after the very first siege of the undead i had no migration i think the last was sping 253 and i stoped playing spring 258
its pretty boring fighting the undead again and again and again and again ........
it takes to long, i would need an bigger army(becouse this guy attack 50-100 undead every season so you need an standing army)
and becouse there is no migration i would have to seal my home for 50 years till i have enough soldiers.

so i did not had any special monsters or even necromancer but more than 1000 undead guys during the years.
(i would maybe play it again but i would change the strategy)
but know i would to start on an new created map in the year 1

That was my start (ver.34.10)
After i reach 50 dwarfs
i had every season an siege of the undead one or two groups of 50 allways
during the first siege 5 kobold ambush me ^^ this guy killed about 40 undead and lost only 2 man, than both groups left me
know i am besieged by 90 undead(10 were killed by the goblins - the groupsize is allway 50- undead goblins or elves^^) who just killed 12 goblins which ambushed me
my defens till know ist to close the door and wait ....
