DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Everything is way too fast for me
« on: August 03, 2015, 09:15:24 am »
It was my first time playing adventure mode again since the new release.
I was a peasant who managed to grab some armor, a spear and a shield and a member of the glorious Group of Cheese. Apparently we are nomadic and the hamlet I was born in is destroyed.

Our group consists of two dwarfs in the mead hall and me, a human. We have no leader and no one knows what we're even doing here.
Since the only trouble we had was an abduction 50 years ago I decided to ask if the dwarves wanted to come with me to the next town in search for wealth and glory.
They all declined... whatever, I didn't like them anyway.

So when I arrived in the human town the first thing I saw were elven merchants talking to some goblin merchants about dragons, titans and such. I knew that I was only a lowly peasant so for now I decided to ignore them and headed to the first house I saw.

Inside was a human thief who has been "rescuing" children for the last three years. After some small talk about the freezing weather he told me about a vampire consort living in a lair just a short walk south of here. I took a liking to him and asked if he wanted to be my companion.

Unfortunately that feeling wasn't mutual and I set out alone on my first quest to slay that night creature.

I sneaked inside the lair. There it was. A skinless humanoid... thing... with wings. I braced my spear bravely and pressed "." to let the beast approach me.
Suddenly I'm on the ground. We were at least 3-4 tiles away from each other and my speed was at 1.000.

What followed was a quick and brutal battle where that thing broke most of my bones and punched through my skull without me being able to do anything.

Why is everyone so fast now? And how can I avoid situations like that?

Extra Information: Everyone was Elite Liberal but the Supreme Court. Maybe I got a few liberal senators or something but nothing else.

Curses / Disbanding the LCS
« on: January 09, 2015, 04:41:50 pm »
Let me tell you my story.

I was enjoying myself on nightmare mode fighting against the CCS and death squads.
The CCS Agents betrayed their own comrades and revealed the hideouts which were quickly cleansed by the Liberal Pest Control Squad.
The Liberal Guardian continued to publish the truth (after the firemen got what they deserved) and soon 99% of the country was liberal.
All laws were green and the elite liberals had everywhere a majority but the supreme court.

So I thought I could disband the organization and wait.
Wrong... every time I do that the country slowly becomes conservative again.
Every. Single. Time.
The CCS was dead and I had sleepers everywhere advocating liberalism!

Is there a trick or something? I want to use a feature like it's supposed to work and not to worry that the game fucks everything up I achieved.
When is it safe to disband the LCS?

Also I let the game advance a few decades and they are now back to their arch conservative state...

DF Suggestions / Re: Dwarven labour preferences (personality)
« on: July 28, 2012, 06:08:47 pm »
This is already added. :D

For example if your dwarf is an egoist (you can see it at his "Thoughts and Preferences") he will get an unhappy thought when he has to help wounded dwarfs.
Or if you're dwarf is really uncreative he won't be a great engraver.

Although they make nice triangles.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Night/Day cycles in Fortress mode?
« on: July 28, 2012, 06:06:13 pm »
You can't see the night in fortress mode and there are some good reasons for this.
The time goes way too fast to add this feature. Changing from day to night in just a few seconds and that everytime would be way too FPS instense and not necessary.

Your dorfs wouldn't even had enough time to charge at the enemies because it would be already day. :D

Well, it's more fun if you embark on an evil glacier like I did.
I got the same problems.

I tried to farm and I had enough seeds but I was using the harder version of farming thanks to Masterwork and so I couldn't grew enough plants to brew drinks for my thirsty dwarves.
50% of them died due thirst and the rest went throwing tantrums because they saw how their friends corpses rot infront of them it seems they were too busy making parties.
Also I got visited by some nice wolfs who killed my cats (They didn't even eat them but just KILLED THEM).
I send a single military dwarf to avenge their death and he actually did very well but I forgot to give him any weapon so he just hit a poor wolf some weeks until it got a lucky hit and bit him his head off. Poor guys... if he would have killed the wolves I would have given him the nickname Wolfy.

Well, so like 7 of 14 dwarfs are dead and the only way to safe them was to buy something to drink from the elves.
But it seems 300 bucks weren't enough profit for them so I just killed them because I'm never gonna give them 1000 bucks profit.

At the end I got 6 dwarfs (One has been wounded at a tantrum and dehydrated because I got no water) and everyone was unhappy but at least they didn't killed themself.
I'm not sure if it is a happy ending but then suddenly in the next imigration wave 36 dwarves joined my fortress!
And then even more.
Right now I'm not sure if I should continue this fortress because I don't like spending a half hour giving those dwarfs jobs etc.

I like what happened to this thread.
Dwarf Fortress and Spongebob.
Two awesome things combined to be even more awesome.

Anti-Off-Topic (Don't let it touch any Off-Topic or it will result in an big explosion!):
But what about ‼Science‼?
It doesn't contain any magma or fire sometimes.

That's horrific and cruel.

Do it.

Ok, that made me seriously laugh. :D
Sigged if you don't mind

I actually support the idea.
Well, maybe it should be less industrial revolution but more medieval fantasy but I always wanted to make a cruel dwarven dictatorship. >:D

You need magma, you have dwarves, so, a dwarf powered pump stack?

Oh my god, oh my god! I got the best idea ever!
You let the dwarf pump magma from a pit into a tunnel that leads to the dwarf itself!
Then you make a small whole where the magama can flow back into the pit.

That's the best idea I ever had!

Sideview(kinda):
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Yeah, I know the drawing is inaccurate the dwarf should actually stand next to the pump and not behind etc.
But I think you got the idea.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: How to train Soldiers
« on: July 07, 2012, 04:37:57 pm »
Have you assigned a barrack for them to train?
I'm not sure if they need one but I always did and it worked perfect. :D

Until I atomsmashed my whole squad by accident.
No more testing of my emergency plans...
