I am thinking of uninstalling this game 'cause the combat is dull as hell and there does not seem to be much to do other than fight these stupid  micro battles.  I admit i have not gotten very far into it but it feels like grinding...

Does it get better?  Should i stick with it (not too much detail, please, if it DOES get better)?

OHHH...that reminds me ...anyone know where you can get the stand alone expansion AoW II Shadow Magic?  it has a randomizer, i think...people on amazon want $50+...which seems too high...any steam-like shops selling it at a more reasonable price...i couldn't find one.

p.s.s I have tried faery tale online but there like a 545 waiting to be born list hahaha

Rule 1:  don't die
Rule 2:  see Rule 1

In that way it is a very 'living' game.

I've heard the Chinese call the keeping of crickets in carved wood cages their "small game"

....but i kinda agree w/ op...the artsy games like graveyard are for the wine and cheese set.  bollocks.

1 man + 10 women=10 babies

10 men + 1 woman=1 baby

That is why women traditionally did not participate in combat.

"Well, no ruined game is beyond salvageable.

Except things that are aimed at little girls.  Those are kind of centered around perpetuating sexism."

My Little Pony From Hell?

Nancy Drew And The Aryan Nation?

I would get EU3, or Dominion 3,  or Drakensang the Dark Eye...but since you have mentioned orange box...so much has been said about Portal that if you like FPS then it sounds like a must play/buy...i hate FPS( blah, blah, no thumbs...) but if you have not played portal you probably should.

i would like to see greater realism re: combat wounds.  If you get hit ONCE by a shotgun blast you are OUT of the battle...someone has to drag your sorry ass back to get medical treatment...if you get shot ONCE by a .45 i doubt you are going to do much of anything but bleed and groan...if you survive(unlikely) you are out for months.  Even in fantasy games...Lightning Bolt for 3 dmg?  HAH!  Go stand in a thunder storm holding a five iron over your head...then tell me you can still swing a sword after the first lightning strike.  My best tactic in jagged alliance/xcom is "Don't Die!"

Master of Monsters for the Sega:

hexes-i love hexagonal maps

simple resource management-mana points that were generated by controlling towers.

A wide variety of available pieces that had well differentiated strengths and weaknesses

Pieces gained experience and graduated to become new stronger pieces-if they survived.

Well designed LARGE maps that made terain and formation vital considerations.

interesting spells

ZOC

clean graphics

Bad Stuff:  The ai cheated.  The stupid combat cut scenes that could have been replaced by on-map animations.  Needed a map editor tool kit.

A worthy game for a tribute /clone development.

"Mine would be stretched quite a bit when a colony had for example 10-25 colonists. I just can't imagine people colonizing planets starting with almost an adam and eve scenario"

you could bring a supply of frozen, diverse zygots for in situ implantation.
