Star Gods and mindscrew anyway. One is enough to send have half the squad running in circles. Apparently I missed some gear that can provide better protection against them.

Euchre Jane and I seem to have quite low Will stats...

Yeah, behind the Power Armor and Heavy Weapons, I'm a real coward.  Thankfully, most other personal are beneath my notice, so I could care less if a few of them die.

And that's bad because the latest update added a morale decay over time. But with luck that should train you.

Kat is looking pretty awesome; besides the 50 days incapacitated. She can always carry a few flasks of dangerous/toxic fluids for some ranged combat (melt her targets), or to soften up tougher enemies, and have the claws as a secondary melee attack.

Alright, acid flasks got a buff to accuracy in the update so they are more useful. You could throw one at close range and go to town with your claws.

Looking Good Boss!!!
Them new-fangled tricks in them long rifles seems to make 'em a bit difficult to wrangle now.
Them pyrogals look pretty nifty in their shiny suits.  Are there any openings in their ranks??

There is no pyrogal in wako base, so congratulations.

So the year 2601 ended quite badly with the loss of a base and the death of a few high level gals, but otherwise great progress has been made in the last six months.

I just updated the mod, it now punish you for giving sniper rifles to gals with low aim (and reward the opposite), gave the gals appearance more variety and added new types of pogrom, among things.

Oh, and the gals now have a quick draw slot. I always felt that the belt was good enough already, but I guess demogals will no longer start with their pistols in hand.

The story so far

After boarding many ships, the pirates caught the attention of the whole hierarchy of the planet’s government. First they attacked the church of Sirius and interrogated all of their officials, then they fought the Star Gods with various degrees of success.

The most important discovery was the old archives from the conquest of Earth six centuries prior to the age of mutants, namely the tale of the Xcom project and the war between Russia and the world that accelerated the damage done by the Star Gods upon the human race.

With this knowledge, the brainers took a first step in restoring education with the “Back to school project”. Why Eve Jobs-sama, the pirate Big Boss, would be interested in education? Because in this world, wealthy and powerful meant the same, because the wealthy are authorized by the Star God to use technology. Developing education allowed the pirates to play around the rules and maintain high tech equipment. That cultural development  strengthened the mutant alliance was a nice side effect.

Of course, not all battles were won. A few pogroms ended badly and the Australiasian base was lost. Many countries were also coerced by the trade guild into stopping protection payment, but thankfully, the gals did not rest on their losses. They looted bases and, with the help of their mutant contacts, increased the pressure on the various local governments.

So the next year begins with great hopes, the pirates are almost able to develop laser weapon by themselves, and that would be a huge upgrade to the gals stopping power. At the same time, the traders guild was scanning the American continent and soon enough the main hideout would be under attack.

The bases

Cave of booty
The main base is almost complete. A surgery lab is under construction to unlock more research then there will be one last spot for the power station that will be soon unlocked. Currently it houses the pirates A team and is the source of all the pirates R&D.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wako Base
Wako base now hold a few competent gals and starts to look great. It is building a third hangar to receive the Kraken that is being built back in the Cave of Booty. Its weird choke point is caused by the bad position of the old radar but this issue will be fixed.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Troy
Still under construction. Troy will soon receive its first gals now that it have the ability to shelter them.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The gals

We have a lot more gals than the previous intermission and most are quite deadly.

Euchre Jane
I have to start with her because she is the best gal by far. She has the highest mission count (30) and the highest kill count (41). Her massive accuracy (120!) combined to her high strength and energy explains why she wasted so much enemies with her gauss cannon, she has 51% to hit, in auto mode, without crouching.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Angel
The pirate queen is a good and balanced gal who can run around the battlefield, providing first aid to her peers. Most of her time is spend healing and I hope to trade her shotgun for pistols so she can use her extra TUs to shoot.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Kat Walker
She’s the best melee gal after the death of Fatima Ann. She use cat claws for now, but there is weapons more suited for gals of her strength and accuracy.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Amperzand
Since she tends to handle explosives, I prefer her to have bad reactions.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Darkening Kaos
She do not have great accuracies for a gal of her experience but since she use a flamethrower most of the time, she’s still powerful.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Rince Wind
The latest update added a damage bonus to her sniper rifle using her accuracy. With her score of 96, she now hit with more power than a lasgun. I am looking for upgrades, and the sniper gauss are the best candidates.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Snapper
Hitting many targets with rockets gave her a lot of firing experience.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Boka
Great bravery and balanced stats make Boka a reliable gal on the front.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ema Ninjaston
She almost recovered her wounds and will soon have the occasion to work on her melee skills again.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Chylie
Terrible with a grenade, but better with a rifle. She’s can take out targets as long as a scout spotted enemies first. Not a good gal to use on overwatch however because of her bad reaction rating.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Tah tah
A decent grenade gal who can use both good melee and throwing skills to obliterate foes.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Scorching Tina
A good assaultgal with balanced stats. The numbers should keep raising together with time.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Lita Boyl
She has average stats, but her good energy allow her to compensate with speed. This is what kept her alive because she could abuse the enemies line of sight to avoid fire.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Helga Kraus
As an heavy weapon user, her firing accuracy could be improved. A few point blank auto shots  will fix that for sure.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Ivanaya Dogobitch
The update to sniper weapons is a problem for Ivanaya. She will probably be given an automatic side arm so she can train her aim until she breaks 70. On the other hand she has good reaction, letting her cover the front.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

By the way here are the templates used for the gals:
* Swabbies: Stat correcting armor, stun melee or rifle depending of carrying capacity
* Riflegal: Medium armor, assault rifle, melee sidearm
* Pyrogal: Fire armor, flamethrower or fire ammo compatible weapon
* Grenadegal: Light armor, melee weapon, all the explosives possible
* Meleegal: Medium armor, two handed melee and pistol
* Demogal: Heavy armor, grenade or rocket launcher
* Snipergal: Flight armor, sniper rifle
* Medicgal: Medium armor, a surgery kit plus a rifle/shotgun
* Heavygal: Heavy armor, cannon or minigun
* Assaultgal: Light armor, smg or shotgun, melee sidearm

Next up, Jan 2602!

Not all the buildings are implemented yet so your list is correct. You should have the magma well too. The power temples are planned for the next version and the soul system will be added afterwards.

Help and tutorials are in progress so currently the best is to make a vanilla style fort for a start. You do not have to militarize early anymore since early sieges are gone.

Many of the buildings use magma so the best way to do it is to build a magma well in a large empty space, at a distance of at least 10 from other rooms, then channel some trenches around that can be secured with grates. Then you generate a large magma circle (which will leak everywhere but don't worry, succubi are immune). Go crazy with magma, make waterfalls, traps, wathever. The only limitation is that the succubi will not walk through puddles but a few backup tunnels will fix that for you.

Afterward the the underworld drill or the floating glass furnace will give you building materials, then it will time to hunt for metals. Make food or brass trinkets if you cannotfind armor grade metals to buy iron items. You cannot make steel anyway.

The summoning circle is also useful if you take the time to gather the required resources, all the creatures there will help with defense and can generate resources.

Did you also updated dfhack, I think the one currently linked in the MDF release is outdated. But on the other hand Meph is soon back from his trip so it should be cleared soon.

667
Do you have a known issue of some kind with Corrupt Prisoners?

When I ran the reaction at the den next to my trade depot (which was full of goblin merchants) I got a bunch of dfhack errors.

I'll try and reproduce it later today so I can provide you the dump, oil is hard to come-by for my fortress right now.

Is using the latest download from this thread unpacked into MWReborn.

If you are using MWReborn, I recommend using this package instead, it contains a few changes made specificaly for reborn.

The one in this thread is targeted for vanilla and the raw changes is sure to cause issues.

Otherwise, could you post the dfhack errors?

668
Doh! I'll update asap.

You must update to dfhack r3 for sure, also you do not need transforming stuff to summon. The creatures are created out of thin air.

I just updated, the sniper rifle's damage has been changed from 50 to 36 + 25% accuracy.

And yes fire was OP, I destroyed guildmasters and cyclops with that. Cyclops are also fireproof.

Mind-Swap (switch names) with whichever unnamed character has the most voodoo potential. Don't mind swap if all of the unnamed characters have smaller voodoo stats than me.

Continue researching voodoo, and ways to defend against it!

I will, I don't know who has good voodoo power yet except for the ones who died.

There seems to be some issue with Spirits of Fire.
I got a few from migrant waves and my succubi are getting stuck when standing next to them.
No reports but lots of message about canceled jobs because of unreachable area.
I am also having a hard time getting them pastured anywhere safe.

EDIT: Turning off temperature helped... a bit. dont know what is happening.

I thought I removed Spirits of Fire from migration waves and caravans because they lit everything on fire and breaks pathing (or rather the succubi do not want to haul something flammable through). I'll check that again.

It's Microsoft following it's old pattern where Windows is concerned, unfortunately.  One version will be good, fairly stable and very usable.  The next version (promising to be so much better) is crap when compared to it's predecessor and never does catch up before the NEXT version is released, which will be the next stable, usable version everyone goes for.

That's the Windows cycle. Sales are stagnating -> MS makes something 'fresh' and 'new' -> we're lost + apps stop working -> MS restore windows XP interface -> we're good -> sales are stagnating...

It was all my fault. :(

I knew I should have aborted when I saw this sectopod but the temptation to capture high profile enemies got the best of me. I never had this much MC enemies.

21 Dec 2601

Losing Hell Hole from the map did not calm down Eve Jobs-sama’s greed who ordered a new base built named after stories of a great city that resisted ten years of siege before succumbing to trickery. The gals were tasked to navigate the skies and terrorize Europe under the names from this epic tale.

Superconductors are found in both laser and gauss weapons, making the latest research a great step towards leveling the field against the guild.

22 Dec 2601

Landing #??

A hopper landed near the Cave of Booty, it was the occasion for the gals to take a jog. The guild personnel was shot for resisting, and the passengers taken hostage and released for a meager ransom. Demonstrating how the guild disregard the little guy was a good way to spread both fear against the pirates and distrust against their foes.

24 Dec 2601

Eve Jobs-sama was surprised to find the hideout decorated with shiny bits of metals. The runts apparently caught word of the ancient Earth traditions and wanted to revive what seemed like a special day in many parts of the world. They fled into the tunnels when the Big Boss screamed at them for halting work. They had a Kraken to build!

Eventually Eve Jobs-sama changed her mind and ordered local dishes on the black market. Runts, gals and brainers had an opulent dinner of roasted piranhas and a two headed ostrich cooked in grog. Alcohol and food was plenty and for one day the guild personnel did not have to fly around the globe paralyzed with fear.

The runts explained that the next day, humans could find gifts under a tree. Eve Jobs-sama spent the evening thinking, what could be a great gift for her gals ? And the next day, she woke up everyone earlier and called Wako Base. There were gifts! Plenty of gifts for the taking for the good pirates, arr!

25 Dec 2601

The guild did spend an extra budget equipping its base for defense, but was not prepared for such a sudden and organized attack. Blast doors were destroyed in an instant from one side to another of the facilities. Several attack crafts shot the area around the facility to raise panic and keep the guards busy as pirates, armed to the teeth, jumped down their dropships and took the fight underground.

Base attack (Cave of Booty team)

To ensure victory, the pirates brought a secret weapon with them, Superslave! The superslave was ready to prove his worth and strike at the enemies for (in)justice.

Go Supersla…

...

“That’s it, you won?” shouted Amperzand from the lift.

The gals had to move on with plan B. They found the guildmaster quickly but they had to act quick, guild personnel was running through platform to assume firing positions. So they threw a willy pete at him then overpowered him in the middle of the fire.

And once again, the guildmaster fainted. This led the gals to question their worth in the guild hierarchy but more interrogation material was always good.

Bushmeat spotted a guild boy wielding a rocket launcher but thankfully Scorching Tina sniped him. The gals then proceeded to sweep the corridors and picked their foes one at a time.

Base Attack (Wako Base team)

Euchre Jane was hungry for action.

Unfortunately gauss shots on the back wounded her, along with Lita Boyl, but all the gals had a vodka bottle on their belt and could treat injuries.

The team lost a few hands because all the base’s hands were equipped with gauss muskets, even the civilians, and that proved to be too much for the lightly dressed swabbies. Those who survived seized control of the entire northern area and caused the remaining foes to panic, drop their weapon or even walk oblivious right into the excited pirates.

Huge columns of black smoke rose over the islands. The natives could not decide if it was a good sign or not.

Everything that was not bolted down has been moved away. What was bolted down was pried open and their content transferred into the dropships.

All that remained was a grave of guild employees who thought that they could steal a cut from Eve Jobs-sama.

30 Jan 2601

Using a computer stolen from the now destroyed base, the brainers decoded the ancient archives and got a lot of information from the times that the Star Gods conquered Earth. So they contacted a group of mutant located to lands once called 'Russia' to unearth clues for these legends. This explained the stories from the wars that has shaken Earth and proved that there was a time were purebloods were not weak willed Star Gods puppets. Eve Jobs-sama was pleased to be the holder of such ultra sensitive information.

Because the files described a terrible weapon called ‘atomics’, the brainers studied the devastating rockets that the guild deployed on the field.

In addition to nuclear weapons, the brainers opened a new lead for better allies. The church of Xenu Sirius seemed to gather knowledge about creatures living in neighboring dimensions. It may have been worthwhile to give them a call.

And so ended the year… actually not quite.

Pogrom #11

Who tried to strike back at the turn of the year? The gals had to find out.

The Bonaventura barely landed that they found themselves against a formidable enemy. A nightmare walking on a pair of mechanized legs and sporting a deadly cannon.

To make the matter worse, Star Gods were there. In broad daylight, and in numbers! There were no hirelings or any proxies this time. It only them, and a tank on legs. The gals could hear voices as evil magic tried to make their ways into their mind. Fatima Ann was the first one to lose control of herself.

Darkening Kaos tried firing a rocket at the mechanized monster without any damage. The gals had to think fast. There was no way to save the mutants from the Star Gods who methodically exterminated them, so either they flee, die against this monster or…

Run as fast as possible into cover. Once inside buildings they could take on the Star Gods without dying by high powered cannon. A game of hide and seek. The gals needed to capture at least one Star God alive, and get it interrogated.

Fatima Ann could not get voices out of her head, it was like a hundred of rookies drumming in her brain. Dropping her sword, she started up running in circles, screaming. This sight was too much for Princess Expendable who hid behind a box shaking. Bushmeat tried to calm her down but she too started babbling an incoherent mess of syllables.

Amperzand could not believe was she was seeing, most of her most hardened pirates were losing control of themselves. And to make it worse, the Star Gods were killing swabbies with their plasma guns.

The dogs on the other hand proved to be useful and mauled a Star God by themselves. Darkening Kaos rushed to their location in hope to stabilize it before it expired but unfortunately, the dogs already dismembered its fragile body.

Rince Wind made a great use of her sniping spot, rising from the Bona’s top hatch only in time to land a shot. She exposed herself as little as possible and at the same time killed no less than three gods by herself.

But the pirates cannot hold against so many odds against them.. Another mechanized creature entered the field and shot at the pirates hiding place. Standing in her simple gym suit, Paladinia barely noticed it closing on her. She saw a flash, and then nothing.

Fatima Ann kept hearing the voices of rookies she killed, much louder than Amperzand telling her to stop listening to the Star Gods mind tricks. She ran out of the hideout, without a weapon, yelling at ghostly apparitions to come and fight like women.

There were no mutant to save anymore so the gals who had enough strength of mind started to pull back. Only Amperzand stayed behind trying to protect Fatima Ann and Bushmeat whose emotions kept jumping between terror and euphoria. Fatima Ann punched around in the air. The assault gal, queen of misfire, killer of rookies figured that Bushmeat was nothing but a larger rookie, she has beaten many armored foes, after all so what could this spear maniac do against her? The idea of throwing a willy pete to make the show more dramatic made its way into her mind so she grabbed out, pulled its pin and charged.

Amperzand tried to intervene but everything happened to quickly. Fatima twisted Bushmeat’s spear and stuck it into her leg. The speargal fought back, hitting her friendly enemy in the face. Stunned and disoriented, Fatima barely noticed the willy pete slipping from her hand. The resulting fire covered all the remaining pirates and pushed Bushmeat to flee in panic. She was caught by the hulking mechanized monster.

Fatima Ann barely had the chance to recover from the mind control. One of the Star God, having lost its bet, shot the crazed assaultgal out of spite.

It was over, Amperzand took a revenge at the offending Star God with a rocket and ran back towards the Bonaventura, her power armor creaked under the strain of her sprint. Unfortunately, the original mechanized creature blocked the way back for Amperzand. So Princess Axependable ran down the ramp with a bomb in head to distract it. She bought precious seconds for Amperzand. Her act of bravery ended in tragedy however as she was unfortunately shot on the Bona’s ramp, the gals dragged her body back in the ship but she did not survive the flight back. She has traded her life for another’s.

After winning many duels against Star Gods, Rince Wind was distracted by Axespendable's death and received plasma on her shoulder. She owe her life to Darkening Kaos who quickly treated her wound.

The dropship launched under the cannon fire. The gals could barely maintain flight over the ocean, repairing the sustained damage as they could. Many Star Gods died, but that was at a high price. They proved to have newer and better weapons as the gals, and they some of their minds are too easily accessible.

This made a bitter end for the first year. The net result was still extremely good, but losing important gals, especially Fatima Ann, who was a fearsome gal for both friend and foe, did not give any matter of rejoicing. But this is what the pirate life is about. instead of dying a nobody, you plunder ships and live a short but exciting life making a name for yourself.

Also the local lords of Pirate Straits agreed to not live up to their name and become a touristic attraction.

---

RIP Fatima Ann, whose abyssal psy power completed her friendly fire package.

I finally got rid of Exalt, the base assault was a spanking of epic proportions.

BFEL got hit by a rocket but no one besides Zhang was wounded.

I won't miss this anti-xcom.
