Other Games / Re: From Dust. Good job again Ubi
« on: August 19, 2011, 09:16:46 am »

Gamers will not suffer forever under the Ubisoft jackboot. The 'corporation' would do well to remember that PC gamers propped it up and we sure as sure can tear it down. Same goes for Activision and Electronic Arts. These companies do not love games... These companies are only interested in abusing games to make some dirty dollars. Now I'm not suggesting it's wrong to want to turn a profit but there's a big difference between companies that respect their customers and the industry and those that are just interested in chasing a quick buck regardless of what kind of damage they do. The best thing that you can do to stop companies like Ubisoft from destroying the industry is to refuse them your patronage. That is to say simply don't buy from them anymore...

Tropico needs to have the option for more difficulty. The elections are easy as pie to win and if money was that easy to earn in real life I'd be wiping my ass with it.

You'd think with all the gamers out there excited for another Black and White or Populous that ONE studio would get it right...

From Dust: Proving that developers with the right amount of motivation can even make being God boring.

Four words: Massive waste of potential.

This is an awesome idea. Could the OP please clean the first post up with some links and titles to important events that have happened in the thread? It'd make it a lot easier to follow everything :).

Well I don't blame Peter for Black and White 2 (it was a production nightmare) other then him pretending it turned out well.

Fable 3 is all him though.

Peter Molyneux is the most dangerous kind of developer, a developer who is so completely delusional that you can almost be assured that any time he opens his mouth it's only to deliver another piece of outrageous misinformation... He actually claimed you could "DO ANYTHING" in Fable II. I mean sure... You can do anything in that game... As long as your definition of "ANYTHING" is restricted to communicating with wooden NPC's via flatulence and pretty much nothing else of note that hasn't been done by a thousand other RPGs throughout the last two decades of gaming.

Most gamers these days are tired of traipsing through the same old linear corridors and having the obtrusive hand of the developer pushing the message "HEY LOOK AT THIS... LOOK WHAT I DID HERE!!! HOW COOL IS THIS?" down players throats. Make me a game where I can influence the world in some non-superficial ways and I won't NEED you to point out how cool it is. Just look at some of the most successful games right now; The Sims, Minecraft, Terraria and others...

People like being able to be a part of the world of the game and making it their own and yet there are still so many greedy and short-sighted developers out there that insist on forcing their and only their vision down peoples throats or think that letting you change the colour of the main characters hair is so super-innovative...

Peter Molyneux and other developers like him are dinosaurs... And soon they'll be replaced by people who don't treat gamers like idiots that need a one-button win and are capable of having meaningful input.

What did it for you?

While I could say cancelling Milo... truthfully it was Fable Journeys that did me in.

Black and White II for me. Lionhead studios only ever published two decent games in my opinion: The Movies and Black and White I. They also offered horrible support for both games to the point where The Movies I will not work with x64 windows (which I now have) although if it is coupled with the expansion pack it'll work (which I don't have) and they no longer sell the expansion pack EXCEPT to Mac users via digital distribution (?)

DF Modding / Re: Dig Deeper GOLD [Version: 0.5]
« on: July 29, 2011, 12:53:58 am »
Just a note. I am still working on this. I mod for several games, I also play games and have to attend to real life commitments like family and work. Work especially takes up a lot of my time.

Had I been born in America I have no doubt that I would have become a full-time video game developer and devoted all my time to this kind of stuff but unfortunately I was born in Australia instead where there is not much of an industry for it and unless you know some noteworthy people you're shit out of luck. So this must stay a much beloved hobby which I can only afford the little free-time I can scrape together :(. I'm still dreaming that one day I will pick up enough programming knowledge to create an indie game and hopefully get a foot in the industry but without any kind of formal training my chances of becoming adapt at much outside of basic scripting are kind of zilch.

If you're reading this and you have always wanted to create a mod or do some scripting or something though I heavily encourage it. Everything I learned (which is admittedly very little) I have taught myself. I have no flair for mathematics and no classes in computers. If you want to do something just go out and teach yourself how to do it. As time goes on and you learn how to do one little thing and then another little thing soon enough you know quite a bit :). The Dwarf Fortress RAWS are quite simple and a great place to start!

So Whales, do I get it right that in the new version you still get extremely wet under the rain but NOT when you dive into the water?

But I need my Savage 111F rifles to make Deon's pizza! D:

I thought it was just the bullets you needed, not the gun itself? :S
Heheh, I guess I've produced a new Cataclysm meme :P.

Suggestion time. This time it's multiple minor ones. (with more to come!)
Zero's Idea Dump
Eh. The first thing I saw when I've opened it were... "Strap on weapons", ewwww.

LOL.

Other Games / Re: Search For The Ultimate Sandbox-Survival Roguelike!
« on: July 27, 2011, 05:15:41 am »
I'd suggest Darklands.  It has sandbox-like play.  You play a band of up to four characters (the same player controls all characters, single-player game) exploring Late Medieval Germany.  You can make and use alchemic potions, call upon saints for help, and use primitive firearms!

Regarding survival, you have two options: Try to make enough money to afford staying in the cities, or try not to die in the bandit and beast infested wilderness.

Admittedly, I'm not doing a good job describing it.  But I did a very brief LP a while ago.

Here is a better description.

Where can you buy this?

EDIT: Also try cataclysm with my mod.

- Added 'aluminium baseball bat'
I'd suggest renaming it to "aluminum baseball bat". I think aluminum was taken as the English standard.

Noooooooope. Aluminium remains the correct usage, though aluminum has been granted 'acceptable alternative' status.

But the game is set in New England, where "aluminum" is correct ;)  That said, it's his mod, he can call stuff whatever he likes!

Ninja'd on Integrated Toolset.  I will be using FunctionZero's recommended fix.

Everyone knows the apocalypse will be brought on by Americans who insist on butchering the English language! :P

No but in all seriousness guys that's just how I learned to say it and how people from where I'm from pronounce it al-i-mini-um.

8) mucho love to all my American homies... Don't send the CIA after me, I was just kidding!

swarmed by zombies.

AGAIN!

I spawned in a house with NO weapons or clothes I could wear over my starting ones. I had to use a glass bottle for fucks sake!

then I start a new game, and spawn in the EXACT same house! even the items are missing (food+water)

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-

Are you using vanilla...

If so how exactly are you dying?

You can outrun the zombies quite easily... :o

Your pain level permanently goes down by 1 every half-hour.  "Excrutiating pain" means your pain level is at least 50; so to go from the minimum level that's "excrutiating" to no pain at all will take 25 hours (assuming you don't accumulate more pain during that time).  Get used to using painkillers on a regular basis.

Ah, good memories... My first death...

UGH WHY AREN'T THESE PAINKILLERS WORKING!? *Takes a handful*...

*Takes another handful*...

*Goes to sleep*...

*Dies*.

Thanks for the endorsement Deon, likewise for the people who do not enjoy my mod Deon is an excellent and most competent modder who constantly sets the bar :).

Did you actually try it yet Deon? I'd love to get some feedback on it :). The scarcity is borked for that version but a fix is coming soonish.
