I discovered a city with a dungeon I want to explore, but the framerate plummeted as soon as I ventured in.  Sure enough, I discovered an entire section completely saturated with lag-inducing turkeys and dogs.

These vermin have horribly distorted the space-time continuum, which I have an obligation to protect.  Any ideas on how to slaughter them all without pissing off the local civilization?

DF Modding / [Utility] Syntax Highlighting for DF raws
« on: January 28, 2013, 12:49:29 am »
Hello one and all,

I just created a very simple package for Sublime Text that syntax highlights the DF raws.  If you don't already have an IDE (ie, a text editor for programmers), I strongly recommend downloading Sublime, as it'll make those raws a thousand times easier to look at :)

Should I mention that this IDE is both fantastic, fully-featured, and free?  Hehe.

Once installed, you can select DFML in Sublime by clicking the bottom-right of the window where the current syntax is displayed.

Happy modding!

DF Community Games & Stories / Adventure Mode Let's Play Succession!
« on: January 25, 2013, 03:47:25 pm »
Hello guys and gals,

There seems to be a severe lack of Adventure Mode Let's Plays on YouTube-- the only truly successful ones I've come across are by jefmajor, which are fantastic.  Since, in my opinion, adventure mode LPs have a TON of potential, we should go about attempting to fill this void!  How you ask?  By creating some sort of ridiculous Adventure Mode succession of sorts!

I've never done this kind of thing before, so suggestions on how exactly to structure this would be fantastic.  However, I've already taken a crack at a few LPs, and I'll proceed to stick them down below :)  Feel free to post any LPs you've created until some kinda formal structure is established.  If things take off, we can even have a voting system and compile a list of some truly epic LPs for everyone to enjoy, hehe.

Here are my submissions:
The Horrible Tale of Ilre Hornbreakfast
Sath Moistnessfancies the Chunkonator, Part 1
Sath Moistnessfancies the Chunkonator, Part 2
Lelgo Latherwipes, Hurler of Large Objects
Lecit, Son of Lelgo (Part 1)
Lecit, Son of Lelgo (Part 2)

Tell me what you think, I enjoyed making these and plan on making more (I'm keeping this list entirely updated).  I'm relatively inexperienced at LPing, so constructive criticism is more than welcome.

Note: the first one is stupidly zoomed out, but it's corrected by the next LP.

What are good ways to manage your inventory in Adventure mode?  Tips, tricks, techniques, and ideas would all be helpful!

For example, trading all yer crap for gems to reduce your inventory weight, or dropping everything in your hands after massive trades by holding down '*' in the drop menu then tapping "A"->"D" every time the screen reaches the bottom (fractions of a second between each press, goes purdy fast).

The reason I ask is both for personal knowledge and to create a nice reference for everyone (I think it'd be a great Wiki page.)

My personal dilemma: after looting a million highwood crossbows and copper low/high boots from a castle, AND totally buying out every shopkeeper I knew had much more value-dense items, I'm still having difficulty moving around the place!  And my inventory takes forever to scroll through to boot (no pun intended.)  Wealth certainly has a high price...

EDIT:  I'm in v0.34.02, the trick above with dropping recently traded items became irrelevant a patch or two later, since traded items were modified to transfer to your backpack rather than your hands :P
