"...I suppose they'll introduce themselves when they're ready. Probably by trying to mug us, when we go take a piss in the alleyway." She said softly, sarcastically, setting up her next shot. "Wouldn't that be a stupid thing for them to do? Fun, though."

She sounds absolutely eager for them to try.
Alban grins at the thought, and waves at the pair.
"What sort of show did you have in mind, anyway?"
He pulls out a 1lv note, and throws it onto the table. "Let's up the ante. That says that you can't a ball after the cue ball rebounds off two other balls first."

Alban threw his head back and laughed, steadying himself with his pool cue. "You're-heh- not half as good at connecting things as you-ahaha- think! You just called a Frenchman an Englishman!" He stopped for a moment to heave wth laughter. "My honor is miffed, but satisfied." If his eyes weren't cold metal, they'd be twinkling. He misses his next few shots thanks to laughter, which begins to fade, as he notices two people watching their game.
Nodding towards the pair, the hulking woman, and the older man, he muttered to Hall, "Looks life we have an audience. Shall we give them a show?"

Chrome as in metal. Probably bionic, something uncommon in the Core, and even rarer out here in the boonies. If you're from the Core, you'll know that use of bionics carries a massive stigma, thanks to large numbers of enhanced individuals committing violent crimes. It's hard to get a hold of cybernetics legally, if you don't work for mega-corp, or a government, so many come from the black market. They're not illegal, but many people would like them to be.

((OOC:  -snip-))
((Oh, that's good. As he knows nothing about Gaelic, this is going over his head. :P))

"I'll be sure to shoot an Ostrich next time I see one just to count for myself."
"I think you might have some trouble with that; the only time I've seen one in person was in a zoo, back home. I don't think that they'd let you shoot it."

"Anyway-go on, make your shot, highlander." She said, doubling down on the joke he was probably still trying to puzzle out.
The awkward half laugh he gave belied how little he got the joke, before doubling down himself on his French accent, "You know, Mademoiselle Couloir, I'm not a rosbif. Careful, lest you tempt my Gallic spirit to answer such an insult!"

((Double OOC: Now you'll have to tell me what the bled is, assuming it's common lingo.))
((According to Google Translate, 'bled' means 'boondocks', which was the closest I could get to 'boonies'/'backwoods'.))

"Sure, I'll be Couloir, you be Écosse."
Alban raises an eyebrow in confusion, and then breaks out in a smile, as he gets the joke, or at least pretends to.
((I think I get it; it's a joke about England, right? I don't speak French, so I'm afraid it's going over my head.))

"I assume 'Ostriches' have good aim, then, whatever those are." Katrine quips, stepping back from the table.
Alban laughs as he lines up his next shot. "Ha! Hardly."

"The World I grew up on just has a lot of big bugs. A big rock wiped out all the major life about the time of all the Dark Plagues on Old Mother*...no ostriches, but we shot and grilled anything with 6 legs or more. How many legs does an Ostrich have?"
"You're really from the bled, aren't you? Ostriches only have two legs."

As for buying a ship, the prices I've found indicate at least 1,000,000 LV to start, probably more.
That's for buying a fighter, right? Not a fully jump capable ship?

"I'll wager 10lv, make it a little interesting for both of us. You eager?" Katrine said, seeming pleased he knew a language she didn't have to mangle. She sets up her first shot as he finishes racking the balls, without waiting for his answer-her hands steady, and breathing even...yet, her earlier smoldering rage is hardly subdued, only a little more buried.
"How does 10lv, and any drink on tap sound?" He stands back, letting her setup her shot. The frown that creased his mouth had evaporated, replaced with a slight smile.

"...Call me whatever you like, but I go by the name Hall. Shall we begin?"
"Call you whatever you like? How's Couloir sound, Hall?" He chuckled to himself at his own joke. "I prefer Alban for myself."

Katrine and Alban play for a bit, each potting a ball or two. Alban seems to be doing slightly better than Katrine, though both appear slightly off their games.
As the game progresses, Alban begins to relax, and tosses some friendly verbal jabs at Hall when she messes up. "Come on! You aim like an ostrich!"

Quote from: From the article I linked:
It's possible that Freddy Fazbear's Pizza could legally be paying Mike at a rate that is clearly lower than the federal and state minimum wages today. The U.S. Department of Labor allows some categories of workers to be paid less than the minimum wage, to try and avoid hindering their employ-ability. Examples include young workers under 20, full-time students working in certain sectors, and those with physical or mental disabilities.

How the world are they able to charge less than minimum wage for a 6 hour graveyard shift?
They don't. The federal government takes a part of that up front. 15%, usually. Anyway, federal minimum wage was pretty low in the 90s, when the game is set, $4.25 in 91-95, $4.75 in 96, and $5.15 from 97 to 06.

You can read more about the theories surrounding the paycheck here.

"Sûr. Je n'ai pas joué depuis longtemps, donc ne vous attendez pas à un défi. Voulez-vous casser?" (Sure. I haven't played in a long time, so don't expect a challenge. Do you want to break?) he replied, as he busied himself with setting the table with an efficiency that threw some doubt on his inexperience. He kept the woman in the corner of his vision, sizing her up as he prepped the game. What was her angle?

Dump the facecam into a very, very deep magma pit.
This. Or move it to a place where it doesn't obscure the screen.

Advertise in DF Community Games & Stories, or Play With Your Buddies. This is the wrong board.

Any thoughts on Battlefleet Gothic? Worth it at $20? How about the DLC, which is at $11 right now?

Alban is mostly just bored, and looking for something to do. Ideally, he'd like to fight the good fight, for non-negative values of 'good' and 'fight'. ie: he'd help rob a shipment of medicine, if they turned around gave it to an orphanage. Money's not really motivating him, he's got plenty.

That all said, he's going to jump at the first chance to fly again. He feels very grounded, and not in a good way.

Alban was pissed at himself. To be specific, he was pissed that he couldn't think of anyone to be pissed at for his current situation. On the one hand, the beer in this town was cheap, but, on the other hand, judging from how the beer was warm, he had a sneaking suspicion that he had wandered into English-Canadian territory. Damn rosbifs.

And he was bored. Cheap beer didn't mean much, if there was nothing to do. He looked up from the third pint he'd been nursing, and glanced at his reflection in the bar mirror. The unsightly face, with sunken, unblinking chrome eyes, that stared back at Alban quickly crossed off the idea of spending a night in the company of a woman or man, even in the platonic sense. The contents of his pockets weren't much more promising; he had left everything but his wallet and car keys in the truck. Well, maybe not everything. The weight of his pistol on his hip tugged at him, reminding him that violence could certainly help make things more interesting... but he quickly dismissed that idea, having noticed the fuming cop earlier.

He glanced over his shoulder, scanning the room. Maybe it had a pool table, or something.

Look for a pool table, or something.
