DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Are megabeasts and Spoilers on the same team?

Hallo folks,
I just had the privilege of catching a(n adult) dragon. Unfortunately, the dwarven caravan decided that they weren't going to wait for his capture before setting off for the mountainhomes, so now the dragon is untrainable. On the bright side, I got most of my trade goods back.
I had been hoping to capture/tame a dragon and make it my first line of *fense against HFS, but since he's now an enemy of my civilization, I'm not sure he'll fight them. On a previous embark I pitted a giant against a minotaur and they just sat around playing poker until I threw in some trolls for them to tag-team, so I'm worried that releasing a giant enemy dragon on HFS may just mean I have to deal with one more fire-breathing monstrosity.
What do you think: is it worth building his cage into my anti-HFS fortifications, or should I build him into an execution chamber near my butcher shop instead?
