Exactly what it says on the tin. I guess I'll give it to the first post by someone interested.

My Steam account name is Kolnukbyne, just comment with your own and bam, it's yours.

From more recent, Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. Very very good game, especially if you were into Deus Ex or Alpha Protocol.

Mmyes. I played it a couple of months ago, I absolutely loved it. That also reminds me, I should get around to finishing Deus Ex and System Shock 2.

I have been going back at Colonization on my dosbox, it's still very fun and playable
I never played the relatively recent remake based on the civ4 engine or the open source one and no idea if they're as good or not

Do you want a free copy of Civ IV: Colonization? I have an extra copy on steam for some reason that nobody wants.

I also recently got the urge to go through Warcraft III's campaign which I never properly completed, but It's hard to find the time with exams approaching.

Oh crap, how could I forget that I've been playing through Warcraft III's campaign again? I tend to play through it at least twice a year. It's my favourite game of all time, after all.

A few weeks ago I spent $35 buying some old Playstation 2 games, controllers and a memory card off a good friend of mine. This week I visited another friend to get my old PS2 back off him. Last week I bought a Multitap off ebay so I can have 4-player games with my friends.

Since then I've been playing the fuck out of Timesplitters 2 (Arcade-y FPS) and Champions: Return to Arms (Hack'n'slash RPG), two dear old favourites of mine.

So what older games have you been hitting up lately?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Disposing of a vampire

My favourite way of disposing with a vampire is walling them into a room and them mining out a square the same size/shape as the edges of the room above them and then dropping 6 z levels on them. Good luck finding a corpse.

It's composed of fire, so basically any damage will cause it to die. As a rule most FBs/titans/clowns composed of a non-solid material such as water, fire, steam etc. are extraordinarily easy to kill.

*Whoever thought z would be easy to remember** for 'kitchen' is a dick forgotten beast with acid blood.

I always remembered it by pronouncing it as 'Kitzien' in my head. Works for me.

"ERMGERD THE UI IZNT AS GUD AS MINE OF WARCRAFT 6 FIXIT

Kind of the vibe I'm getting from these threads. Toady knows what's best for his game. Leave it at that. He'll do the UI when he decides the UI needs to be done.

I like that you compare Dwarf Fortress' financial success to retail games. Let me say that again: you are comparing how much money a free game funded only by willpower and donations makes compared to a game funded by people buying the game.

Can we next compare the success of youtube hobby videos to James Cameron's films?

DF General Discussion / Re: When did YOU migrate to Dwarf Fortress?

About December '11, though I first discovered and tried to play DF in about January of the same year, subsequently giving up on it after deciding it was too complex for me. How foolish I once was.

I'd never even thought about DF steam groups. You could always start your own and vie for Steam-dominance amongst the DF community.

There really needs to be a sticky thread somewhere explaining to people why a UI update won't happen for a good time.

The UI is functional. It works. It might be butt-ugly and a bit convoluted but it does its job. If you've played DF as much as you say you have then surely you've grown past worrying about the UI. I (and most other players) would much prefer new game features than reworking of things that already work exactly as intended and really wouldn't contribute to expanding the game in ay way.

Also, money ≠ work on UI. I'm not sure how you came up with that idea, but it's not a good one. You'd be better off camping outside his home with a protest sign.

The UI is hardly "functional"... I mean lets not kid ourselves here, there were things you had to look up how to do because there was no way to find out looking at the UI.

As for most other players... Well, I am going to have to test this.

"functional |ˈfʌŋ(k)ʃ(ə)n(ə)l|
adjective
1 of or having a special activity, purpose, or task; relating to the way in which something works or operates : there are important functional differences between left and right brain.
• designed to be practical and useful, rather than attractive : she had assumed the apartment would be functional and simple."
I dunno, I'd say that fits pretty well. It's functional, it's just not accessible and even then it's not that great a stretch to be able to learn how it functions to the point that you can memorise which command corresponds to the most used and important commands.

It doesn't need to be fixed, it works exactly as intended. Sure it's ugly and convoluted but it does its job just fine. I'd much prefer Toady works on actual features of the game than refining a UI that already works perfectly fine as is.
