I appear to have cursed myself. I just started a new embark and guess what? The cart exploded and spilled parts everywhere...

It has begun... Cartmageddon.

God damn, this is like the miner-pocalypse.

Did you add the [LOCAL_BANDITRY] tag to the dwarves? If an entity has this then in adventure mode figures of that civilisation will be immediately hostile. That's all I can think of.
Also, high-five for having basically the exact same modding as I do in my current game.

You realize that a wagonmancer would be someone who divines the future by means of wagons, right?

Sorry, just tired of this "whatever-mancy" stuff when "-mancy" means "divination".
/autism

Yes, the Greek root "-mancy" originally meant for divination, but the English language has  hijacked the root and all associated words to describe any form of specialized magic, a use found within this very game as Necromancers act to use the dead, not divine information from them. For that matter, the last time I heard the Greek use of "-mancy" was in the book Neuromancer, and that was made decades ago. Additionally, the insistence of the use of Greek definitions shows a poor grasp of the English language, where (for example) the words Necromancy, Pyromancy, and etcetera have been redefined to reflect their popular usage.

Also, wagonurgy sounds moronic.

/also an autist

And really, who wants to go around calling themselves a Necro-Wainwright?

So there's this game I've been thinking about for a while which I played when I was about 7. I only played the demo that came on a PC gaming magazine's demo disc.

It was an RTS and the primary resource which was harvested was pumpkins, from memory. From my vague memory of the intro cinematic it was a strange post-apocalypse setting which might have been semi-steampunk. It was possible to use some kind of 'messenger' unit to communicate with the enemy and exchange certain things with them, I believe and there was a unit with a bow which could also steal technology from the enemy.

That's basically all I remember, anyone who thinks this sounds familiar, a name would be nice.

NOTE: I played this around 2001-2002.

No matter: I've found it. 'Rising Lands' was its name!

DF General Discussion / Re: Do goblins love their children?
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:28:07 am »
Taken from the wiki on the goblin page in a section under D, for 'Dwarf':

"Despite their bloodthirsty, selfish, unsympathetic and cruel nature, goblins are also recognized as a benevolent and merciful race in some aspects. Goblin Baby-Snatchers claim moral superiority by rescuing innocent lives from the slavery of making rock trumpets until they are eaten by a giant cave spider. Atrocities such as the so-called dwarven day care institution also spur snatchers to rescue the children from constant abuse. Goblin Sieges are considered to be a form of mass mercy killings, as a fort can die in the most horrific of ways, such as social disagreements, an infestation of parasitic organisms masquerading as dwarves, or worst of all: a visit from the circus.
In addition, dwarven science has proven that the violence between Goblins and Dwarves does, in fact, start on a purely instinctual level. Leaving a goblin and dwarven child locked in a room together will result in them kicking, punching, and biting each other to death the moment they notice each other. Whether this natural animosity stems from centuries of war or opposing viewpoints on the treatment of children has yet to be determined."

I finally got around to memorialising Wagon. Once my fort perishes I'll have to check the legends for him, as he is clearly a historical figure now.

He was also, apparently, really darn old. Dwarven Maintenance, man dwarf.

So here I was testing out my newly constructed bridge. I have the lever pulled to lower the bridge right as a human caravan is leaving the fort. A wagon is partially crushed and destroyed. I use this to my advantage and nab all of the crap it dropped, including precious wagon wood.

Later while testing another bridge one of my threshers is accidentally crushed. As I go to engrave a memorial slab for him I notice this...

He was a hero to his people.

(...) The windows. Those windows were a terrible idea; he just bust right on through. (...)

Well, they were not supposed to be like that.
I don't know who came up with this idea.  ::)

I quite liked it, actually. I expected him to run around and go through the bridge but nope! Busts in through a window. I think it helped, too, he sorta got trapped in there once the military dwarves closed in on him.

I've had this happen quite often with companions, though. I recruit 8 soldiers and prepare to charge the bandit camp when suddenly all of the bastards drop dead. So I go into sneak and just throw their crap at the bandits until they stop threatening the land.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: How does one pick things up?
« on: July 15, 2013, 03:40:59 am »
'G' will pick up the item directly beneath you if there is only one. If there are more than one item (which there most often will be) you press 'G' and then the letter corresponding with the item in a list that appears. Larger piles of items will require you to use '*' and '/' to scroll through the list.

"g", not "G". Caps are very important.

Of course, my mistake. Punctuation made it in over correctness.

You'd become less thirsty.

Stokershoots. What is this abomination that I have inherited? The dwarves are bathed in sun, constantly. They deny the cold embrace of the world's stone heart and choose to live above the stone as the Tall-ones do. But they are set in their ways and it is my responsibility to make their lives comfortable and productive - if only for a year.

I was once tasked by a lord to slay a vampire that was his son. That was pretty sweet.

My one and only time as a werebeast: I encountered a weremoose in his lair, he bit me and beat me until I went unconscious. However I ended up transforming before he could kill me. I awoke in my new monstrous form and decided to put the pain on him!

It didn't work. The Weremoose-off ended with myself being beaten to a bloody pulp. I was sorely disappointed.
