We named this new design as Project ALICE (ALLIed  CorvettE).
We think that the ship speed should be above 1.000 km/s, so we add another engine. As your sensor design are based on EM and Thermal Sensitivity 5 when we had EM and Thermal sensitivity 6 we make little adjustment. Also Plasma Carronade had very limited capabilities against Missiles, if the Survey Corvette are meant to had limited capabilities against enemy ships the ship active sensor are very short. If the Corvette ship are meant to had limited anti-missile and anti-ship capabilities we propose to use Gauss Cannon. If it meant to as proper warship, the armor are too thin, and the ship speed was not very fast. We afraid the ship cannot fight proper Reich warships."

Gentlemen(and Women)-
I'm pleased to see that the period of immediate crisis is over. First, I'd like to claim green as the default ANEA color. Second, and more importantly, we need to beat the Germans to Mars, and if possible other habitable objects such as Titan. We can let the get Venus, but we can't let them force a war. In order to accomplish this, we will need cargo and colony ships. As it is not my forte designing ships, I'll have to request a ship of there specifications-a 10000 ton colony ship that can hold 20000 colonists and has reasonable range, and a cargo ship that can hold 15-20000 tons of cargo that is only 25000 tons and has reasonable range. To my knowledge, we currently lack any civilan vessels, so fortunately my workload won't increase much. Could I ask the head of ASA to present me a detailed chart of expenses/income both before and after our new expenses(Am I in charge of ordering the installations, or is that the individual branches who do that?)

The Military Shipyards are under ANSEC jurisdiction, while Commercial Shipyard are under join ANSEC-ANEA administration. Currently we had no expenses sir as we currently didn't build anything, except that we use 2.500 ton Sorium per year to produce 5 million litres LSF (Liquified Sorium-based Fuel), but I will always prepare the monthly economic report. No, no...I think I made it 1 shot per 60 seconds? In the series, the Galactica's main guns can rip a Basestar to pieces at close range. But it's not meant to take over the battle. Even with all those guns it should take several volleys (and thus several minutes) to kill one, leaving plenty of time for fighter combat and dramatic events.
It still very cool to watch all 24 guns fire at the same time...

I'm thinking random. For one, very clever players could tell it they were headed in the right direction by looking at the starmap and calculating which ones are closest to Earth (which would be OOC).

The other bit is that you don't get nebulas with real stars, and a few *light* nebulas could provide an interesting challenge. FWIW, I'm going to generate most of the systems between the Twelve Colonies and Earth ahead of time so if there's any gamebreakers (like a level 30 nebula), I can delete them out. Plus this way I can make sure there's at least a few interesting systems, and SM some ruins for the Raptors to find, to give clues to point to Earth. Now, if you guys get totally off-course and start wandering "off-map" then I'll let Aurora generate the systems for me. There won't be any "aliens" (turned off NPRs), but that doesn't mean that any undientified contact is automatically a Cylon.... ;)
Looking at bay12 users sense of direction in establishing fortress in very dangerous and spooky region, I think we will be several parsecs in the wrong direction (and maybe come back at the start point)...

If you'd been foolish enough to do Real Stars, we'd be at Earth inside of five years. Saaaay~

What is our tech status on those?

We start at the bottom of Engine Tech: Nuclear Thermal Engine,
with no Fuel Efficiency, Power vs Efficiency, HyperDrive nor Thermal Reduction researched. But Fighter and FAC engine already researched. (To emulate what Steve say will be in 6.00 version, you can always decrease or increase engine size - it change fuel consumption)

Well the battle was hopeless to me... Since I started with CS, my tech was pretty much a galactic junk...
But it still fun trying to beat them with mediocre techs, I can't outrun them nor outgun them... Guess the Precursor that the Invader destroyed was no never advance beyond Ion Engine techs level I guess....

24 40cm Railguns? That means 96 slugs per shots.. Those buggers will never know what hit'em... But I wonder what their rate of fire is... Is it 1 shot per 5 seconds? To see it fire at once, that very much sir was an awesome sight...

Also will it be using a real star or random generated one?

Yeah, especially if I found the design are interesting. I also got some crazy design that I s]shamelessly steal[/s] inspired from several other AAR. You will be surprised, it is quite unorthodox and combat proven...

Oh man.  I'm going to nerd out for a couple of minutes thinking about the effects of having the majority of your oceans in one hemisphere.
That will make Mars climate more colder and more dryer than Earth when our Ocean are relatively free to wander from North to South. The Mars southern pole will just like a huge Antartic Ice Field while the Northern Pole will relatively Ice Free. The coast wil get penty of rains though as the land will be cold enough to cause cloud to moved to South (as the land act as giant negative pressure thingy same as the system atop Siberia) and then precipitate at various mountain range. The region beyond those mountain range will get almost zero humidity and will stayed as dry land. Where the southern ice caps got all their Ice? That Ice come from when Mars was a little warmer and from water that been trapped at Hellas Sea and Argyre Lakes since time immemorial. The water circulation between North Ocean and South Ice I think maybe very different and seldom interact with each others. But of course this is all only hypothetical scenario as our real world Mars did not had a large ocean.

Hypothetical Mars Santa will be based on South Pole and they don't employ elves, they employ dwarves. And that kids, explain why the kids get toys and the adult goes drunk on Christmas. Mars Santa give free Dwarven Rums.
It is also will just like the old Earth... In Late PreCambrian time (600M year ago) when all our continent (Supercontinent Rodinia) are in Southern Hemisphere...

b. Cold Desert World Mars with rain near coast and inland cold desert. A cross between British Columbia, Siberian Steep, Mojave Desert and Antarctica.
Note that both planet had "Partially Intact City" Ruin and Homeworld Grade TN Minerals. Climates only affect our role playing, didn't had anything with real game mechanics though.

ok, I just can't play this. I'm too dumb, or too weak to endure the endless turns when nothing happens.

tried cheating, tried conventional, tried with spoilers, tried without. it is just... that this seems a great storytelling device, if you manually set up the right conditions, but it rarely if seldom generates those interesting situations by itself.

fun just never comes to fruition. I'll wait 6.0 and give another try, given that it will have a better management interface and hopefully more design options

in the meanwhile, I'll need some space combat fix: any other 4x game that have detailed ship design and combat where ship doesn't just have a 'health bar' and can actually survive long engagements (I can set for something like star ruler, but I'm also looking new stuff, specially because star ruler doesn't work on mac)

That's why I found it more compelling to play with others. Aurora started as an assistant to Starfire Tabletop Game after all.
When I play singe payer game, I'm always set NPR generation rate as high as 100% to ensure I had someone to play with although the AI was pretty much easy to guess. In my last single player game, The New United Nation of Earth and Mars (NUNEM) was facing enemy that was much more faster, much more bigger, and had bigger guns. The Earth and Mars desperately producing ships, missiles, fighters (suicidal one, no more hangar capable ships), and PDCs to keep the enemy from entering entering Sol. But it was a losing batte. In 2039, 14 years after human start exploring the stars (conventional start), the enemy jumped into Sol. Only 3 ~30.000-ton sized Cruiser. But it decimated the stationed picket fleets. Destroy mining colonies across Jupiter's moons. (Saturn was spared, thank God!). Picking CMCs between Jupiter and Mars (how the he can they detect those CMC? it was only EM 5 for Xenu sake.) Mars destroyed several months after fired with numerous Plasma Torpedoes. The Earth try to strike them with all nuclear missile arsenal that the Earth had, but it only killing one. Crippled (but not disabled) the other one. It was a desperate move. Although I keep producing and firing missiles as fast as I can, it changed nothing. My industry capabilities are decimated, mass drivers are gone, I got gallicite and duranium shortage, it was over. Finally Earth was fallen one year later.
That's why boys and girls, NEVER jump into strange star before your ready.

Only Mining Colony at Titan survived. I was losing epicly. It is not in nature of human to surrender easily so I SM-ing some Construction Factories on Titan. The Human Union of Titan will avenge their fallen comrade on Earth and Mars! As the Titan only had 4m people that reside on Orbital Habitats, no ships except OH-tugships. I SM-ing that Pop into 100m (the peope are breeding like rabbits? no, it is extra-uterus birth), I assuming the date are now 2140 (even when the game still display it as 2040), 100 years after the Fall of Earth. I Fast-OOB the new generation engine ship. And armed them with very extra long drone carrying missile that shoot smaller missiles to overwhelm the enemy by sheer missile numbers. Only one problem remains. How can I direct those ships while keeping the Titan colony existance hidden. And that the whole stories so far.

You see, Aurora had potential to create epic stories, just keep trying, keep looking, and keep imagining things even when it didn't exist...
