DF Gameplay Questions / Re: is this cheat viable?

vanilla is the way the game is meant to be originally played on it's present state.

right, than why are the raws so easy to modify?

I mean, besides wealth, having "resources" doesn't make much of a difference to the game at all until you have at least some dwarves. I seriously think your concept of in-game development for DF is a little flawed.

i tried to install dfhack [and dfusion] in order to fix this, but it keeps crashing. the reason i have for not using mods is quality control, the very few i have installed have all crashed in one way or another.

DF Modding / Re: first time fiddling with raws, will this work?

Also make sure to increase the melting/boiling point of your dwarves' body materials.  FIREIMMUNE will keep them from bursting into flames, but they'll still melt off their own skin and fat if they're not careful (which they won't be).  Check the bottom of the dragon raws for an example.

is that what happened? I think I may have fixed it by changing their tissues to metal. at least I copied part of the stuff from a bronze collossus and changed every reference of bronze to adamantine.

it seems to have worked [not comletely sure, but they've stopped dying and the broken teeth look blue] but it also has the side effect of making them almost unkillable [one dwarf against ten dragons in the arena and the dwarf wins. five dwarfs against each other and I start getting bored.] so I guess if I use it seriously I'd change the mwlting and boiling points so its not too boring.

extra embark dwarves

how do you do this? I thought seven was the limit.

If you do it 50 times your going to have 350 dwarf corpses to deal with, your better off generating a new world and upping your embark points as high as you need.

is it possible to go higher than  ten thousand points?

DF Modding / first time fiddling with raws, will this work?
« on: August 07, 2012, 01:36:35 am »
1. will this work
2. if it won't can you help
3. if it does work is it a bad idea.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

I've highlighted the parts I've changed. Hopefully those will give dwarves the ability to breath fire and the ability to not get hit by friendly fire. at least thats what I'm trying for.

This seems extremely undwarfy, but it's totally up to you.  If you want to learn the game why not embark in a low-savagery area, or turn off Inavaders until you are comfortable?  Even with standard embark points you can take more than enough food to last you a year, plus stone, fuel, coal, ore, wood, whatever you may need.

1. i've played with advanced worldgen enough to set the savegaary to zero and increase the number of serene.

2. i'm not sure how to turn invaders off, i'll go look on the wiki to see if I can find something.

basicly, do you think that taking as much stuff with you as you can when you embark [with advanced world generation set to maximum number of points], insta-abdandon, and then repeat fourty or fifty times is an efficient way to play.

i've tested it and it seems everything stays in the wagon [not sure about food or livestock though], just wondering if more experienced players consider it to be a good way to set up a fortress quickly giving more time to figure out the basic features [like farming] and a start on learning the more advanced stuff before a fortress starves to death or gets slaughtered by goblins.

I've only just started playing seriously a few days ago, but I've heard that you can find kidnapped dwarves amonst gobling sieges. wouldn't they be better assassins than goblins.

Build a drowning chamber and test the purity of each dwarf. The ones that die are innocent the ones that live you must kill.

like the old test for witches. If they float, off with their heads, if they drown...

Seamlessly switching between fort and adventure mode is planned. It'll probably take a few more years until Toady gets to that though :>

why do the best games only have a small group [or in this case one] of developers,, it sucks.

yay for military dictatorships. stuff all of the dwarves who enjoy lording it over others into royal suites with a private tunnel to the barracks, , kill all the disobedient freedom fighters and slackers, stuff the rest into dormatories and write the insane ones off as part of overhead costs.

Oh come on, now.  Dwarf Fortress vampires stray a lot from the good mythology, but invoking that Stephenie Meyer bullcrap is just mean and insulting.

just feel lucky its not something worse. like anita blake.

while I like the idea [especialy milatary dictatorships[ it seems a bit too industrial revolutiony. maybe change unions to guilds and a few other things.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: prosthetic limbs

I wouldn't be against prosthetics, but they should be at most a peg or a hook. Losing limbs should never be a good thing.
