So yeah, I dug down right on top of a slade fortress, and in my foolishness decided to tunnel over and cut fortifications to dispatch the rotting cats and aligators and such guarding the ledges, but I seem to have made a big mistake. I put a food pile at the base of the fortifications, as I figured my miners and engravers would obviously get hungry and thirsty, but not making them a dining room, they began to path upward, until they ran right into the undead cat that scares the hell of out of them.

Now, I got marksdwarves, but I messed up on cutting the right angle to shoot the little fucker. Sorry about the language but this stupid dead cat has caused me a good hour of headaches as I watch these dumb fucking dwarfs just loop up and down, back and forth, their hunger only surpassed by their idiotic drive to walk the same path over and other, up the scares to get scared then right back down and back again. I've forbidden all the dropped items, and started to conscript any dwarf trying to make his way through the hall. I feel like this problem could have been solved much easier, and still don't know how I'm going to resolve it. I could have a straight shot at the god damnned cat but NOOO, miners can't work there anymore.

ITS JUST A FUCKING DEAD CAT GUYS, DEAL WITH IT!@#$%!!!!!!

I'm facepalming severly right now, the dwarven caravans have just arrived, hopefully with some much needed flux, and my broker is trapped in the bottom of the world in a stupid cycle where he tries to grab some food he dropped but ends up getting freaked out by a dead cat and running away. I really hope he doesn't die from this.

Ugh, heading into my fourth winter now, still no seige. I checked the civilization page: I think I'm at peace with the goblins? WTF? I want to test these the mettle of these fourty armed fools. Wirebronze now has a population of 115, and only one citizen dead, a victim of dehydration, not counting the few traders that seem to hang around on the edge of the map purely for cyclops/weremarmot bait. That said, it's taken four years to even speak to the outpost liason for some reason or another. He's hung around forever now and I've had people in positions to speak with him, but he only finally cornered the mayor a couple of days ago. The liason gushed and asked for a reccomendation to the barony, the mayor gave forth the name of the most unremarkable man possible, a recent immigrant whose only real skill is beginner's strand extraction. More importantly though the mayor let the mountain homes know we need flux stone, hopefully it will come sooner than later.

Speaking of steel, I'm starting to realize how jittery dwarves truly are. I've begun investigating the circus tent found during a cavern hunt. Hoping for target practice I began carving fortifications, but now a lone cat corpse stuck on a ledge is shutting down my operation. When I tell my marksdwarves to go deal with it though, they just go to the barracks en masse and start doing individual combat drills in the barracks. Please tell me they're just getting pumped up or w/e, because I'll be highly annoyed if they decide that shooting dead cats through cover is unsporting. Precious bins an food and such are already scattered all over the tunnel, and I'm sure the site of the awful creatures hasn't helped their fragile little psyches.

So I decided to get a little adventurous and dig an exploratory tunnel to the caverns...ended up overshooting the first two caverns and struck the third...my first stairwell luckily ended up on a pillar, overlooking a demonic fortress, and now my entrance is nearly carved out and booby-trapped. I haven't even hit my first goblin seige yet!!!!

I did (sort of) think ahead and am in process of crafting a lever system that can divert my well down the accursed flight of stairs, but I'm still little skittish with regards to channelling the river into my well, but hopefully the door I built in the channel and roofed over is watertight enough to keep the well from flooding over...again...

^The first time I tried to build a well over a cavern I did this. I decided to use Therapist to find the least skilled dwarf capable of 'doing the honors'. I didn't pay enough attention. She had a baby with her. Now I just make sure to make a ton of booze.

when I realized there was an ecosystem inside. Before I didn't understand the point of grazing stock, I figured they were just tribute for the eventual seige. Now I'm creating vast clay meadows and power-levelling 10 miners at a time.

I got a noob question: where are the best places to look for armor merchants in adventure mode? In towns all I see are shops for bone carvings, cloth, food, or 'general' goods (which tend to just be the other three things anyway)

not

atm, towns rarely have useful merchants. Go to keeps or such (center of town) they usually have usable stuff. In the future, for adventure questions, sometimes you get better/faster response over in the adventure forum
thanks, yeah I was looking for somewhere to ask there but I saw the word 'Newbie' and decided to set up my chair _/
