DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Pacifist Minotaur?

Hmm that is odd. I'm no expert on the way wounds work, but I wonder if perhaps his injured eye became infected and rotted away?

I just threw my elite marksdwarf, swordsdwarf, mace, hammer and spear dwarves all into a single squad which I have dubbed the power rangers. Idk why I find it so hilarious but I do

And also remember you can do a mass-unforbid via the stocks menu provided there isn't anything dangerous lurking around. That's usually what I do on safe reclaims. Just a tidbit to file away for the future.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Is this normal?

Perfectly normal for a Dwarf. The infants even emerge with full, luxurious beards and alcohol dependence. Dorfs know how to party

Meh it's not random and therefore less funny, but apparently I modded some of the possible book titles a while back and forgot that I did so. I was briefly baffled when looking through legends mode I found titles such as "Death 2: Electric Boogaloo".

Here we see Fort Mengoshur, a quiet and idyllic settlement founded 47 years ago by the infalliable lanterns. The citizenry mingles in silver statue gardens nestled in secure aboveground meadows, while the elite terminator squads patrol the unsecured areas hungry for goblin sieges. The booze flows freely here, but not all is as peaceful as it appears on the surface.

Somewhere in the fortress, a villain lurks.

This mad fiend has held the cavern colony in his grip of terror for the past month. The monster does not suck blood nor transform upon the full moon. Much worse...he pulls levers. I have dubbed him the unguarded lever maniac. Already he has pulled three levers in his lust for shennanegins.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Zombie megabeasts
« on: August 14, 2013, 06:19:30 am »
Well, looks like the new world I just generated has a Zombie Hydra in it. It does not list a birth date and claims that it was "animated by unknown forces"

Anybody know how or under what conditions this happens? I could swear I've never seen this happen before, then again I've only just recently started playing again after a hiatus. Other than that, let's have a zombie megabeast thread. Anybody have any interesting encounters with undead megabeasts? Are they even killable?

DF Modding / Re: Tips on fun stuff to add?

I've been modding in some creatures from Stone Soup, since to me it has a lot of interesting/new creatures. Sky beasts and holy swine for good biomes so far. I have to say it's quite a blast trying to translate them over and incorporate into DF

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

If I have a creature that is [IMMOBILE] will I be able to pasture/pit or otherwise move it around in fortress mode or will it be glued to the spot forever until it dies?

I have here a reaction for a simple mining system in adventure mode, which I'm using in the crafting of adventure mode armors.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Problem is it feels a tad overpowered, since theoretically you could just spam it until you have a full candy suit of armor. Any way I could reduce the OP'ness without getting rid of possible ores? I was thinking to not preserve the pick reagent, but I'm not sure how frequent they are found while adventuring...

DF Modding / DF: Breath of !!Magma!!
« on: April 05, 2013, 02:44:59 pm »
Hey all, so I've had this idea after delving into my stash of old RPGs last week. I'm working on a Breath of Fire mod. It will encompass all the games with a tiny touch of my own herbs and spices thrown in. I just figured I'd throw this out there to see if it sparks anybody's interest. The work has been easy and quick so far, but I'm still dabbling in the art of modding.

For the moment I've copied some things, especially the magic spells I have in, from other mods just so I can work with them and learn how to make one from scratch.

The master plan, as it stands:

Races:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Weapons:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Wild Creatures:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Secrets:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Semimegabeasts
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Megabeasts:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Materials:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Dorfs:

And that's it for now. Comments and/or criticism is appreciated, or ideas and suggestions. If you're a BoF fan and I got something wrong, feel free to point it out.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Technical Difficulties
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:47:06 am »
I guess this is more of a technical problem but I'm having a weird issue with running DF. I had what I thought was FPS death a couple days ago, but then when I started a brand spanking new fort in a new world, it was still sitting at around 7 FPS. It was even doing this at the title screen.

I did some research and apparently my video card is to blame. But here's the thing- I can still play Dungeon Crawl with zero problems, not even the speed is affected on that game. I've been killed by Sigmund over 10 times just tonight! Youtube even still works for me. I checked the init files and everything, so my question is could this be some sort of issue or bug with DF? Anybody had similar problems? I'm buying a new fancy high tech computing machine before long so it's not a huge deal, but I do miss my dorfs lately. Any insight is highly appreciated.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Outside Forts
« on: March 01, 2013, 09:57:52 pm »
I'm currently embarked near an ocean. There was a nice little spot on the beach where i've set up a small fishing village and the duchess is getting a nice big sprawling beachhouse. I just am really paranoid about ambushes until I can get the walls up or otherwise secure the area. I usually wait to build outdoors until I have an army of masons on hand. Then they can promptly get interrupted by vultures for five hundred years. ugh.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Regurgitative Defenses
« on: February 21, 2013, 02:02:54 am »
First off, I apologize if this grosses anybody out. Anyway, I just had one of my dorfs take a spear to the stomach and proceed to vomit all over the place. This got me thinking: would it be possible to collect a big cistern of vomit and then dump gobbos in there to die? Would they actually drown or does that only work with water? I'm envisioning a small sewer system full of vomit, FB extract, and generally every nasty  or poisonous substance I can possibly find in the game. Maybe some venom with menacing spikes as an injection system?
