DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: February 19, 2013, 07:54:03 am »
Managed to go three years with not a single casualty. Then a Forgotten Beast showed up. My legendary miner killed the thing, but then started rotting thanks to the dang derned dust. I used to think he was falling in love but now he's only falling apart. It's getting kind of weird. Total eclipse of the beard.

Nice lol. I'd like to give this world a whirl. I've been dabbling in trying to generate thematic worlds lately, I.E. ice planets, etc. Params would be much appreciated

Dear Mrs. Axedwarfette

You are a strong woman. You are the best warrior in the fort, and have no less than two forgotten beasts among the twelve other kills on your list. I know how it goes with females and armor, but it would really be nice if you wore something more than gauntlets and a troll fur loincloth. There are children about

I loosed food once. There were not many survivors. The goblins that lived...will not live well.

DF Suggestions / Gravel Beans
« on: December 08, 2012, 09:59:32 pm »
My apologies if something like this has been suggested a billion times, the search function didn't seem to be working for me here, but I had an idea hit me tonight.

Gravel beans- a subterranean crop. Brew them at a still, and you get Dwarven Coffee. This miracle substance could give all who consume it a tiny, tiny stat boost, such as extra speed for a predetermined amount of time. Nothing too riduculous and it could be balanced out by only growing in a single season or not being initially available at embark, or a surface crop.
Perhaps if processed a different way, it could result in Dwarven Chocolate- another thing for the nobles to demand! Joy unbounded!

So I had something happen on my fort that I thought was quite neat.  I had a titan show up, whom was a massive humanoid composed of flame. At first, he melted everything that came near him. I was hoping since he was made of fire, I could just bum rush him with a bunch of conscripts and get in one of those "hits the titan in the head, breaking apart the tissue" strikes. That didn't happen. He obliterated half a squad of dwarves, then a caravan and set half the map on fire.  As I was preparing to shut down the fort, one of the members of the mace squad for some unknown reason, decided to haul himself up the mountain and take on the titan. I checked on him a while later and much to my confusion, he wasn't melting. He defeated the titan and returned to the fort, without as much as a single injury. I then noticed it was raining at the time. I'm guessing that's what saved the brave idiot but I had no idea rain would render a flame titan completely harmless.

Because they need the other civs to be alive so they can rub it in their faces.

We know what causes strange moods and tantrums, but what causes Strange Tantrums?!?!?

I really haven't had any FBs made of fire. The three that were down there got ownt by the clowns pretty quickly anyway. It's really weird, though I am enjoying the candy veins that are like 20 Zs down lol.

I have no clue how to upload saves unfortunately.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Two humps is too many
« on: September 25, 2012, 11:19:06 pm »
Camels have got to be the most obnoxious creatures I have ever encountered in my years playing this fine game. They don't really bother much for the most part. They don't attack my dorfs and just wander around on their corner of the map.

UNTIL I get seiged that is. I have a nice narrow little pass through the mountains that is filled with weapon and cage traps just to collect a bit of free stuff now and then. Every time I get seiged, it's like some vile force possesses the camels and they charge my traps. They pack in, jamming the weapons with their bloated carcasses. A camel could be on the other end of the map, across a river with four broken legs, yet the blasted thing will still attempt to get in the way, even if it has to exert itself to death. I'm probably going to kill the baron, then train up a special camel removal squad.

Anybody have similar experiences? What animal makes you angry or is generally obnoxious?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Nature wants you to slooow down
« on: September 17, 2012, 01:22:36 am »
Ok, so I just downloaded the latest version of DF tonight to try it out. Made a world, yadda yadda, however when I got down to playing, my dwarves were suddenly moving at warp speed. I've never had to use the pause button this often with DF, and while kind of cool, it just has me thrown off. Is there some way to adjust this or am I just going to have to wait it out? It's annoying when you're thinking about something, forget to pause and blam, half your booze is gone. I'm about to go into the raws and take away everybody's beards if this keeps up

One of my Dwarves was walking around, and blood started coming out of him everywhere. He went to the booze stockpile and there was just blood all over the place. Dwarves were dying from it. He tried to go swimming, and all the carp went nuts and bit into everybody. He got chased by all the vampire mayors ever. I decided to send him into the magma so he would stop getting blood everywhere. The strangest part is that this Dwarf was YOU. (Or he was an elf if you're an elf) And you forgot that this happened.

Life Advice / Wondering if I should sally forth?
« on: September 13, 2012, 05:22:40 am »
Seems like things are heating up what with Iran and the embassy attacks over that dumb film. I just got out of the military a couple years ago, starting to establish a normal life, then this crap starts. How likely do you think war is, or the S. really hitting the fan in one of these countries?

I figure there's a high chance I'd get recalled since they've been scaling back the military lately. But I don't know for sure. I wouldn't mind it too terribly if that did happen. The only thing I loathe about the military is all the flying you have to do. I have a horrendous fear of flying....which I didn't discover until after enlisting (facepalm)
