DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Sure, it's Dwarven enough, but...
« on: July 26, 2013, 12:27:57 am »
My recent dwarven idea is to construct the Hindenburg in the sky (preferably on an aluminum frame, complete with glass windows portholes) hook it up to a support, fill it with magma, and drop it from the sky on goblins. It'd have the added bonus of getting rid of pesky clothes and melting weapons and armor.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: What's going on in your fort?
« on: July 25, 2013, 08:01:38 pm »
Two sieges in 5 months. The military quickly dispatched them. However, now I have huge amounts of goblinite to process.

So, I have never made a serious attempt on the circus. I breached them once, I don't remember if it was on accident or not, in the first year or early second year, and they slaughtered my then-desert fortress. This map has a ton of cotton candy, to the tune of I have 8 of each sword/axe/spear and 18 full suits of candy armor, and I still have ~200 candy wafers left to go. Now I have more void hammers then I will ever know what to do with.

I'm never, ever going to find a better map to military the circus.

A question about the curious underground structure. I know when I deconstruct the sword, I'll spawn demons. Will that replace an erie glowing pit at the bottom of my candy spires?

Unrelated Question: If I drop a platform of filled coffins/slabs into the magma sea, will those dwarves stay tombed/memorialized?

BTW, save is here if anyone is interested.

I need to spend the next year mass pitting goblinite. I promoted hammerdwarf captain to hammerer. Now I just need to ignore my nobles.

There were problems with the siege in terms of viable sladehammer combat reports. There had only been one slade hammer equiped and my secondbest hammerdwarf, to whom I had just assigned my second warhammer. had wandered outside to pick up some item or another while he had no weapon. He got jumped by 2 full squads of goblins, so I undrafted him, so he reverted to a fishery worker and ran. The rest of the miltary got sent out, the human caravan got in the way, and things rapidly became a shitshow.

Long story short, slade warhammer hammerdwarf spent his entire siege chasing one single goblin far away from the battlefield that was in turn chasing hammerdwarf squadmate turned fishery worker. He evenutally saved his friend. The combat report lasted 3 lines:
Goblin Spearman misses militia captain.
Militia captain bashes spearmen in lower left leg, chipping the bone.
Militia captain bashes spearmen in head, bruising muscle, jamming the skull through the brain, tearing the brain.

127
Siege! Lashers, speargobs x2, and swordgoblins.

First slade warhammer is exceptional. I gave it to my best hammerdwarf. It weighs eighty Urists. In comparison, a silver warhammer weighs 4.

I also put [CAN_STONE] on whips, morningstars, mauls and flails, but I can't make those at the craftdwarfshop... Maybe they'll mood.

Edit: And a animal caretaker just claimed a craftdwarfs shop. This is the first time I have ever been happy to see a craftdwarfshop claimed.

Was just messing around with raws and think I might have found something very game breaking. And it most likely will NOT require a world regen.

Under items_weapon there is can_stone tag which "Allows the weapon to be made at a craftsdwarf's workshop from a sharp ([MAX_EDGE:10000] or higher) stone (e.g. obsidian) plus a wood log."

Adding  can_stone to an existing worlds raws enables obsidian war hammers to be made at a craftsdorfshop.

http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/Weapon_token

Slade is MAX_EDGE:1000, changing it to MAX_EDGE:10000 will enable slade short swords (and hammers...)

If you could try this out and then test out the weapon's effectiveness for us it would be much appreciated.

Grates turn the tag to [inside], killing the windmill. Not sure about bars. In any case, if the incredibly rare flying building destroyer descends into your water or magma filled pit to destroy your windmill, please screenshot it.

hi. I'm edge. I like to talk about dwarf fortress on the dwarf fortress forums. When I first got to college, I hated the standard conversation "hi, I'm xxx, I'm a yyy major, I am in zzz classes." Repeat repeat repeat. I don't care I don't care I don't care. You aren't your name, you aren't your major, and you aren't the classes you take.

I've had jobs where I have had to schmooze people for a living. I was never great at it, but I was around people who were. The general idea is to get them to talk about themselves, and stroke their ego occasionally. I get it. People like talking about themselves. I like talking about myself. But you gotta be clever about it.

This is the dwarf fortress forums. Talk about dwarf fortress. Build things. Fight things. Take pictures of the amusing stuff you do. You like the game? Talk about the game. The relevant pieces of information about your own self will fall in due time.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Silver Crossbows, best crossbows?

Check out the weapon page on the wiki to see how utterly useless crossbow bash is.

I generally make my crossbows out of copper.

Yeah but...Slade...
Yah, I'm looking for some slade based novelty. Seeing all the dwarves in a slade stockpile scurrying to drop boulders into the central pit before the clowns make it to the top would most certainly be less effective then masterpieces of dwarven engineering.
