Ask ALVIN if he can link our suit cameras to the CCR screens. If neither he nor anybody else does so, go there and do it myself. If everything goes fine, go to the garage with the rest of blue squad.

"Hey, I'm going to try and link our cameras to those screens. We've got super high tech AIs, how hard could it be to link a few camera feeds?"

((Probability says that I'll probably roll low if it comes down to a roll, but eh, it's only probability. We must finish up here so that we can get going.))

((I think I'll have Celeste try to make some kind of... well, mood-displaying device. You know those old "mood rings" or whatever that were popular a while back? Kind of like that, except more accurate. Reason is that Celeste's not so good at showing her emotions without being over the top with it, so she tends to just not bother. Reason for THAT is because I'm that way due to my autism.))
((You can always modify one of those emoticon screens the cyborgs use to display only colours and fit it in your suit. I bet the AM will give you one for free ))

Stealth is key to this mission; you can't just force your way through, not against a mind like this
((when things go wrong, you can always try and bring up Mr. Charles!))
((Looks like a mission where charisma and speech will finally see some use.))

Flint, Quartermaster of Canary Base,

I humbly request a gauss rifle magazine to take on the expedition.  I do hope to return it unused.

Sincerely,
Brother Lars
Quote from: Flint Westwood to brother Lars
Good day to you, brother Lars

I am sorry to report that there are no clips left in the armory. However you can ask one from Sean or Morul, since they have each taken two from it. I've let their transgressions slide for the moment so as to ease tensions, however now that they are depriving teammates from materials I cannot let this continue. Go to them and tell them that I sent you. If they cause you trouble, remind them that Steve and Miyamoto preach sharing. And if neither of them gives you a clip, just tell me or Miyamoto and we'll make sure you get your clip.

Stay alive,
Flint Westwood
Blue team member
Quartermaster of Canary Base

((Ummm... Why would we want to put landlines on? We're not going to reach Steve anyway, and I don't see their usefulness anywhere. Why would we want landlines?
((Landlines are used to bypass interference, because it looks like in certain sectors or after moving further away from the base, radio communication with it is impossible.))
And Parisbre, do you mind if I nitpick/investigate your character backstory? Because I like nitpicking, but I don't want to make you suffer through it unless you want to.
((Sure, constructive criticism is what makes us better. Just remember that a) I'm not a good writer, so don't expect me to do wonders and b) some of the stuff, like the religion names are just for silliness, while others, like the hologram conflict were stolen from history books and other stories and c) Flint can always claim dementia and memory loss, either because of stasis, because of torture or because of age. Edit: Oh, if you didn't know, stasis causes dementia. Piecewise's solution for allowing non-canon backstories without revealing the canon or worrying too much about them: If your backstory contradicts current events, you're suffering from stasis dementia.))
((We don't have to take off our suits to eat, right?))
((No, at least not as far as I know. We have ports for pills and liquids, so we can use those for food too I guess. Although it's kind of hard to imagine how someone could eat a burrito through a tube... Maybe there's a larger food port? Or maybe we'll just mash it into pulp and then drink it, astronaut style?))

As Zephyris listened to the old actor, she found something bugging her. Something she didn't quite comprehend.
"I do have a question..", she paused briefly as it occured to her that followers of the religion might find the question offensive. Then again, Flint didn't seem too pious. Surely he wouldn't mind. "Had anyone told either pope the religion's name was way too long?"

((On the subject of landlines: Even if a cable did stretch from here to the Sword, it wouldn't allow for communication on any practical scale.))
((What if it was some kind of ultra-thin four-dimensionally straight tube (so as to ignore the effects of gravity) that took advantage of the casimir effect to allow FTL travel of signals? It would be highly unpractical and expensive (and unnecessary, since we have instant communication devices (that for some reason they haven't trusted us with)) but it would be doable. Theoretically. If the physics are right. I think.))

@Bishop: "Ready and awaiting orders blue leader. I've taken 2 days worth of food and water for the squad, sample containers and 4 drones. I've still got some room in my bag though, and this exosuit can carry a lot. Want me to take anything else?"

((Action post coming after Bishop [Zako] posts. I saw those posts earlier but I didn't had the time to answer. You think we should start laying cables?))

((Yay, look, my crappy boring backstory, just as I promised. If you find this horrible excuse of a story causes you brain damage or other kinds of distress, then I will not hesitate to remove it.))

"So, Zephyris, I promised you a story and a story I will deliver." said Flint as he sat comfortably in one of the barracks' bunks.
"And that's my homeworld's history in a nutshell. Now, can anybody tell me the moral of the story?" he said as he looked around at the people in the barracks, like an old story teller that had just said some kind of educational tale to a bunch of children. "Nah, there's no moral (apart from the fact that people are stupid maybe). I'm just messing with you."

"So, any questions about my homeworld and its history? Otherwise, we should get to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day..."

((I made up a religion so as not to offend anyone. Although with the rate new sects of Christianity are forming now that we're still on Earth as a species, I can imagine a religion like the one I made up springing up on some planet, once interstellar travel becomes possible. If you have been offended anyway, first I will apologize, but then I will ask you what are you doing in a sci-fi game, and specifically this sci-fi game.))

((And I just noticed that taken together the names of the two popes form the name of Corsair's character. Coincidence or is my subconscious trying to tell me something?))

Name:Flint/Competent Miner - Blue Squad - Quartermaster

First go and clean the after-party mess in the barracks.

Then look around for some kind of cart that could be used to carry supplies while on foot. If one is found, fill it with a few sample containers, 4 mapping drones and food and drink for 4 men for 2 days. Else see if I can make a bag for my exosuit (maybe use ropes and some shrink wrap) and put those things there. Else, see if I can simply tie those things on me. If I can't carry so many stuff, take what I can carry.

Then, get ready to move out with my squad.

@Bishop: "A pleasure to be working with you again Rocketman. I'll try to take some extra food and water with us, so that you don't have to carry so much."

@Everyone: "If anyone doesn't have a weapon, ask and I will be happy to provide."

((Updated notes with color coded squads. Of course, canary gold has been chosen for home squad.))

((I find it hilarious how the most active person in planning the expedition is not even in the planning room. Wanna somehow incorporate it IC?))
((If you notice, I only provide information. I don't plan it, I help IN the planning. From what I understand RC is a bit busy to gather all the data required to plan a mission successfully, so I help him a bit by gathering all the data and suggestions and compacting them so that he can access it easily, be it via my notes or via my maps or via the latest team semi-suggestion. In a way I'm like a secretary. The teams was the only suggestion about the mission I did and it was mostly all the suggestions made about the team so far by everyone else, combined and extrapolated into what I think are the best possible choices, based on their suggestions.

And, I don't think Flint is smart enough to do all these secretary stuff IC.))
((And is the reason you put me and yourself in one team in any way related to the fact that you're planning to collect my body if I die?  :P By the way, I just understood that this mission is actually the best one to be indebted to you. Since we don't have stasis, I wouldn't have any chance of revival if I died anyway.))
((The banking system works in mysterious ways...))

((No, really, I put you there because that MPV is going to need some mules to pull it (or even better to pedal it  :P), and you have an exoskeleton. And I needed people who were a bit harder to die, due to Zephyris' low MED skill, so again, exoskeleton.))
((I think we do have some full conversion stuff. We don't have stasis, nor was I referring to stasis.))
((Yep. Piecewise said that all the equipment is there, you only need someone capable enough to operate it. And we have Mesk.

Hmmm.... Would the conversion take medical, auxiliary or both rolls?))

EDIT in response to EDIT:((The magic gel is actually used to restore the body without the need for prosthetics, and they didn't give it to us because it's even harder to use than the robofication equipment.))

EDIT2:((Yep, got it from my notes. Stockpiles post 1: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=106279.msg4087389#msg4087389))

((A combination of touchup and border patrol then? Something like this?))
((No, first the near zones, then everything else. There is no need to be so stingy as to refrain from travelling through an explored zone on return. Start with the 6 adjacent zones as in the Small Expedition, then do the Border Patrol from there.))
((The map was for what RC said. I understand what you're saying. In fact I think you're right and that we should explore the nearest regions first, if only to learn how to operate as a team and give us some time to prepare for longer expeditions that would require lots of supplies. However, Miyamoto and by extention RC is the team leader, so I will follow his orders/suggestions. And he wants us to do a scouting run along that route, if I understand what he says correctly. I'll draw another map with your suggestion, should RC choose to accept it.))

The longer expeditions can be supplied by a team of robots/exoskeletons by using the manual powered 4 wheeler or even the shuttles/bikes in emergencies. If those expeditions are just for scouting, they can be completed faster by using minishuttles. However minishuttles are riskier, since you have less time to detect anomalies and stop in time. It is my opinion that minishuttles should only be used on routes that have been determined to be safe.

Anyway, just a thought.))

Take my exosuit, my laser and a few sampling boxes. If I can dig deep and take good samples with my robo-hands, then take a couple of ground samples from near the base and a couple of ground samples from the edge of the crater and label them accordingly. Else use my laser to take the samples.

See if the shuttle we arrived in can easily be refueled and if it can be put in the garage.

If at any time I see Michael Alexander trying to take a rocket bike, stop him and tell him that he can't take a bike until the team leader gives him permission. If I see him returning and he's not in a good condition, help him get to the medbay.

"Yeah, I don't know what kind of preservatives they use but the food is excellent! And tastes excellent too!"

((Looks like there won't be any more votes coming, so unless someone objects or has something else to suggest...))

*raises glass* "Let us drink in celebration! To Canary Base, the HMRC exploratory outpost of Vastitatibus Temporis, The Wastes of Time. May our stay here be happy and uneventful!"

Go spraypaint the following on the base entrance with green spraypaint and stencils (remember to put my helmet back on before going out):
Quote from: Entrance Sign
CANARY BASE

Vastitatibus Temporis, The Wastes of Time

@Bishop: "Do I have permission to start naming vehicles according to our base's avian theme? As Chief Engineer I thought I should get your permission first."

((@paris: your notes are always open on another tab when I'm planing things, thanks for the link in your sig. Also, what exactly do you mean with 'a human can't walk all day'? I know that, which is why I'm counting for at least 4 days for one trip, although a week might be a safer bet.))
((Hmmm... I don't really know why I put it there now that I think about it. Maybe it was something I was thinking for my notes? Oh well, if I can't remember what I meant it probably wasn't important. Just ignore it.

EDIT: Ah, just remembered. I meant to say that robots don't have the same needs as humans. They can keep going with little food or rest and can keep watch on the team. Brain switched off for a moment there.))

((I've actually found a new use for bicycles that would make them significantly more useful than before. I'll get to it when I have a chance. Bicycles for everyone!!!))

((All I can see is the Armory Master and the Doctor riding around the sword on a bicycle built for two.  Both are wearing helmets with flowers on them, with a puppy sitting in the basket on the front.  They're singing, laughing, and smiling.))
((I would pay good tokens for that. :))))
