Are you sure you did not turn invaders off for some reason and forgot about it?
I notice that snatchers and sieges come a bit less often after several years, but this is usually after in-game decades. Have you had any megabeast attacks in these siegeless years?

For fort mode I prefer 20-50 years. Most MBs are still alive, there are not too many vampires and most historical migrants won't be children. In younger worlds there will be less historical migrants (I like those) and civs will not have spread very far, so several ores and plants may be unavailable through trade.

For adventurer mode around 150 years seems to be good. There are still many MBs around but many other things to kill as well and human civs will have spread a bit more, so there is more loot from fortresses and keeps.

I've found capybaras are much more dangerous than expected, I've had quite a few hunters injured and babys carried by hunters killed by them. They are not aggressive, but way more dangerous than say wild boars who can get more nasty in real life.

Yes... she was working and asking for rocks, gems, and other things she haves (as you can see from the dfhack log).

Is this a bug ? How can I troubleshoot ? Do you need the save so you can dig in ?

No, I mean when you q over the workshop after she has collected all items, it should say something like "she is working furiously".

Don't know if it's a bug, I would just have checked DFhack to see what she wants and if she has it. You can also t over the workshop to see what she has collected.


Living quarters look good, I just make everything a lot bigger (3x2 or 3x3 for normal dwarves, bigger ones for special dwarfs and huge halls for nobles.)

Once she is mad there is no way you can save her. But she should not go mad if she has everything she needs for the artifact...

Was she actually working on the artifact?

If she's berserk you have to kill her or keep her locked away till she starves. Other insane dwarfs die by themselves after a while, but berserks will attack your dwarfs.

Most of the time any stone is ok, but sometimes it is a particular material, you can see that with "showmood" in DFhack.

Dwarfs will collect materials themselves, but they will still respect burrows, so you need to make sure the moody dwarf can actually reach the materials.

They will get skinnier if they are starving for a while. My dwarfs tend to be somewhat fat but still pretty strong and agile from all the hauling.

I readed the wiki about leadership and it seemed a good idea to give to a champion, but he have always had 1 of leadership and I doubt a marksdwarf is good at teaching warriors, isn't it ?

Your count being chief medic is ok, every dwarf with Diagnosis enabled can do that job and the chief medic just enables the health screen and does not necessarily do any healing stuff. Meetings can interfere with her being manager though.

The champion does not really do anything, it's pretty much a honorary position. He just gives dwarfs that talk to him the "pillar of society" thought but does not have any teaching effect on your military.

You should avoid having dwarfs with multiple noble positions as these can interfere with each other. It does not matter that she is your chief medic, as that position does nothing except enable the health screen, but probaly you should appoint a new manager.

Never had problem with multi-position nobiles, other than during early fortress when I have to micromanage stockpile accuracy level ( Granted, I don't uses manager jobs much! ).

Yeah, it does not affect all noble positions, but those with active tasks like the manager can be slowed down if they have other things to do like conduct meetings. Also I had a captain of the guard be elected mayor and when a new mayor was elected the former's mandate would remain active. Does not really matter for nobles like the CMD or broker who just enable a screen.

Will hill dwarf sites and deep sites be subject to invasions or MB/FB rampages during gameplay? Will you need to and be able to defend them?

Will you eventually be able to control these sites in the same way you control your fort?

Dwarfs without moodable skills (you can check that on the wiki) will randomly make something out of stone, wood or bones and become legendary stone/woodcrafters or bonecarvers.
