Around 400 in one fort (including 100 children). Managment was no problem at all, the fort practically run itself. But FPS was between 15 and 25 when nothing happened and dropped to 5 when sieges or caravans arrived. With weather and temperature off.

Nice. You have embarked on a bandit camp. Apparently the bandit group is at war with the human and goblin civs, bandit groups are outcasts and not part of a civ themselves.

If it only happens with saves you played for a longer time, that sounds like the compressed saves issue to me. Happened to me too.

To be sure and to not waste 7h you should test if it does not happen with new saves.

If you like a fort it is also a good idea to make backups of the saves from time to time.

Does that happen to all your saves? Can you start a fort, save immediately and then load it?

You could try to turn "compressed saves" off in the init.txt, that seems to cause save game corruption sometimes.

In worlds with shorter history you are less likely to encounter vampires. With 30-50 years you might get just one and with less history probably none at all.

If you have DFhack you could try to use "autodump" to dump all webs in one accessible tile near your loom, so that they can be collected. Or you could atomsmash them.

Ok, if it's the first time it should work. Distance should not be an issue. Is there an unobstructed path from the animals to the farmers workshop? Perhaps a wall or an forbidden door prevents the dwarfs from accessing the animals?

Have they milked them before? Creatures can only be milked and sheared every so often (don't know exactly how long it takes). Perhaps wait a month or two and try again.

If you make multiple trips to drop stuff, then yes,it will scatter a small amount, as the region squarereloads and scatters when you leave and re-enter, if you drop items off, and then give in to starvation, then your items will be in a neat stack on your body, that's what I do, at least.

I drop everything in one trip, then go to the mountainhome and retire (to get the adventurer as a migrant later on) and start a fort. Perhaps the one trip thing explains why there is no scatter, I leave the region and the next time I revisit it is in fort mode.

Even things like meat and skin remain usable if dropped. If the adventurer starves, he will show up as deceased in the unit list. Corpses and bodyparts recovered from lairs however were completely ignored. I found that out when I wanted to bury the former royal family that was killed in world gen at my embark site.

I did this several times in 34.07 and there was no scatter at all. Not even with very light objects like socks.

It has nothing to do with your CMD, any dwarf that has the diagnosis labor enabled can diagnose a wounded dwarf. Unfortunately diagnosis is a low priority job. Sometimes it helps to remove the bed when the wounded dwarf is asleep, this generates a new rescue job and might help getting him diagnosed.

About the nobles, my baron was "on break" all the time in my last fortress, so I think we can conclude that laziness has definitely been implemented.

I had this with a baron in a 34.07 fort. I guess it's a glitch however, since it was only in that one fort and all other supposedly lazy nobles like the king etc were accepting jobs like any other dwarf.
