it's okay if  you take over driving during the vast, long, flat, plains roads.
LOL, I imagine him hitting every bush, a mutated horse and the only tree in miles

Sounds like a good running joke for drivers to hit stuff (serious and non serious events :p)

EDIT: Maybe George can have a soothing lullaby voice
For the other thing, maybe think about how you want George to move around/to/from/inside the truck during foot combat and driving combat

this one
"2. (Needs a name)
Skill about fast reaction to his surroundings."
can be changed. I suggest something like Crab on hot steel tin, like he's got a fire under his ass and needs to concentrate hard in an emergency in response to danger. Maybe Crab in a hot fucking steel truck but it can be used outside the truck too obvs.

and one more
A music skill.... harmonica work for you? It's quite simple so it's likely to get picked up by Crab truckers.

Dodging... I can make Steely Nerves make lesser blows bounce off you... Tbh you're better off making the truck dodge :p :p
Some kind of escape option works well.
Terence has his lasso, for example.

On reflection I think he'd wrap the lasso around him and it would confer a lucky charm on him, protecting him from enemy bullets and so on.

Terence's dancing is very sultry - charming neutrals and distracting enemies with his swaying cowcrab hips. And then busting out an unexpected motherfucking backflip to dodge enemy blades and shit.

Maybe he has some conditions for activating properties of the lasso? Alcohol or gas are common, and you will come across scrap. If you want other stuff, there can be opportunities sooner or later.
If you wanted to add some power later on that didn't seem right in the beginning, for instance, you need to write in a scene where he develops, like "Terence lays down wrapped in the lasso and weeps gently, tears swallowed up behind his huge beard. He trembles until he get a shot of alcohol. Then he goes deathly still and remembers... le romance... Martha's kiss... under the stars ...he looks at the lasso and it sparkles in the sun/moon light. From now on, in sun/moon light (you can change time of day by resting at inns/motels, but there are deadlines for deliveries) he will wield special powers with it.

snow dwarf, this is what I have for George McPunch'face so far:

Lasso
I love it. Angelhair Lasso. Maybe he does something special like wrapping it around himself like a belt or bandanna and goes berserk? It seems like he'd become smoother though... need to think about that... maybe doing it improves his dancing or fighting in some way?
And when he drinks alcohol it heightens the effect (because of repressing/remembering memories of his True Love)? It should develop over scenes.
I can quite see him using the lasso as an angelic noose to choke enemies. I can also see it having some magical effect.

Dancing
Tbh I see Terence's dancing as sexy spanish styles like flamenco, samba, passionate and romantic. I also see him dancing around enemies using it. Maybe he sniffs the lasso of her hair and gets a +1 bonus remembering his steamy nights dancing heart-to-heart with ♥♥Martha♥♥
Anyway, think about it.

General Announcement

Another thing for everyone: You can attain specialties later on, as well as starting with them. Don't worry if we you don't start with lots of abilities, you will have chances to get more as you play. Probably after completing the journey and praying to the Crab Goddess by reflecting on the ass-kicking you did, and how much ass-kicking you need to do. You and her will probably negotiate for it, whatever suits the game. Another way might be meeting a skill sensei or an ability alchemist. We'll see as we go, and work out the details in OOC.

Idea: How about extensible claws/pincers?

To any newcomers: Crabs of all classes welcome. It is good if we have 2 drivers who can work in shifts and relieve each other. Sign up if you like that shit, or become a lifter or fighter. DO EET

DF General Discussion / Re: Yard Sale
« on: October 14, 2016, 10:03:50 pm »
I've thought a bit on how to weaponize it.  First would be to chain animals right next to it, to force the attack wave into close proximity.  But I keep thinking about the sheer area that is covered by the cataplosion - roughly a 36x36 square around the item pile.  I first thought of surrounding it with walls to contain the items into a smaller area, but since the items arc I think that will result in enormous piles at the base of the walls, with no extra hits in the center.  I think for maximum effect, to evenly and randomly turn a smaller space into a deathtrap, you need to cap it with a dome so the arcing objects hit the roof and fall more randomly.  The problems that I see are, 1) how high does the ceiling need to be to ensure proper spread?  and 2) does hitting a wall or ceiling change the velocity of the object?  We're not talking high speeds to start with.  Put perhaps falling speed is even more advantageous, who knows.

Another possibility is say, a 3x3 up/down staircase that the attackers take to all descend straight down towards the cataplosion item pile.  Theoretically all the articles will arc through this center space.  But the unknown here is what role a staircase takes - do they block item trajectory, or does it act as an empty space that items can hurl through?

Final thought is an elevated item pile that explodes far above the attackers, raining items down from on high.  I don't know however if an item truly does any more damage falling 20z than a single z.

And just to be clear, I'm pretty sure a minecart shotgun does all of this with far more more precision and velocity, so this is mostly for fun.

Wow. Some cool ideas there (that I will try to incorporate!)

I'm thinking on the character and will post a sheet after I'm done, but I see George as kind' a sitting in the bar. Somebody walks up to him with a knife and he just grabs the guy by his head and smashes him into the table, while still drinking his beer and smoking a cig, than he just goes to his truck packs the shit up and fucks away.

Transformin' truck?

REAL NERVE
LOVE IT! I will meditate on this. Is George the kind of person to spit on an assailant?
Do his "nerves" extend to his personality? Is he withdrawn, and if so, in what circumstances does he show emotion?
Is he secretly nice to children, or really loves the Crab Goddess and prays every night?
Does he have a burning rage in his beating crab heart? Does he get upset or violent when he sees injustice?
Does he like bringing order and peace? Does he do things for others if they need help? Does he get worried for others?

Think about George a little. Does he have a little Crab children? Crab wife? an entire Crab family? all safely back on Crab Mountain.
But the worlds a helluva lot more dangerous than Crab Mountain, and George has to defend his shit, and the Crab Goddess knows best how transporting this shit helps the world to be a better place. What else can he do? He can't take on all the crazy, but he can work in a team and get to the destination every day. Maybe seeing a lot of shit has made him impervious or detached. Either way, he definitely cares about *something*

IDEA:

Please tell me via PM if I'm being too picky or ruining your character concept. Just let me know what is an acceptable level of input.

Other Games / Re: Roguelikes
« on: October 14, 2016, 09:48:12 pm »
I love nethack on my phone. I know it's tired and old, but still classic.
The version I have has buttons and panels and shit which make the game playable without a keyboard.
This is how ALL roguelikes should play. Customisable command buttons on scrolling panels. Whew.
Does caves of qud count as a RL? It's awesome.
Spelunky is too: It takes everything good about the genre and transplants it in a horror platformer.
Dungeon crawling is not really my thing :(
Generally, I really love simplified dungeon games such as Shiren and Mystery Dungeon. SMT:SJ is nice too.
Sure, you lose a lot of features (A LOT- like 90%) but it's awesome to see everything animated all nicely and shit.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Tracking stats, game flow, player responsibilities
Don't worry about adding rolls and +1s etc., I'll handle it and tell you the result by PM, then you narrate your action by editing your post
Similarly, players are not expected to keep track of stats, number of skill uses, gas remaining etc. per se, because I will do it anyway and can let you know the sitch.
If you have a fatiguing skill, I will tell you how many uses you have left, so don't worry about monitoring rationing etc. I will let you know what you should track.

Game flow: Specifically:
1-I tell you what's going on in a narration
2-You guys say your action/intention through PM or in OOC,
3- PM if you want advice or info before making decisions, or I will PM you after letting you know your odds/options are.
4-I tell you result of the action after confirming your decision in PM or OOC. I/You might also bring another player into your decision for multi-actor action, or team-play.
5-You guys edit or add posts to narrate the result. If you need to remove a post for any reason, just replace it with "---" and we'll skip over it.

Alternatively, this thread will be OOC, and you guys can make team plans, and another thread will be the IC for the narration.

It's not such a big fucking deal in any case, but I'm leaning towards an OOC/IC thread or PMs or a combination of the 2 to keep everything mysterious via PMs *raises GM screen* or explaining/telling you via OOC *lays and sets game table and chairs*
It's cool, whatever the players want is best too and we can all hash it out soon-ish.

If at any time you see something like "SCENE IN PROGRESS" that means I'm still writing it, and you should wait until that message is gone before posting.

I like it Snow Dwarf, sounds cool as heck. I'd like if he had some accessories or habit, like the red hat is lucky and he touches it for luck or something.
It's all up to you. He sounds quite shy/reticent though. Maybe he changes after a few drinks and hankers for alcohol? How about an alcohol-induced berserk rage? You'd have to reason why he has pent up emotions that translates to enormous strength however.

Your skills should look like this

George McPunch'face
Spoiler: his name? (click to show/hide)

(Then add 3 more custom skills of your very own choosing- and rank them in 3 tiers similar to above) so far we have:

Good ideas for custom skills are technology, clothing, theme, ability, hobby,

EDIT:
You can do your skills like this:

Spoiler: Custom skill: Gas tank (click to show/hide)

It's inferred. I don't have to prove it, everyone who is reading it understands it implicitly and is a part of it.
