I accidentally found out you can use the mouse to designate areas, about 30 seconds ago, after I just laid out the floor plan for a fairly elaborate and tedious level of my new fortress.

Personally I find the mouse clunky and imprecise. I think when I first tried DF eons ago (And went on a uber hiatus after a rage quit.) I used the mouse and found it really frustrating. It tends to make difficult and precise things even more so.

Also, if you find the keyboard too slow while moving, press shift.

Welp, it appears that the elves are incapable of reaching my fort. That or my fort is so far out in the middle of fudging nowhere that the elven caravan will be a once-every-two-to-three-years type of thing.

I just realized..... I forgot to check what civs were nearby on the embark screen. Oh dear, I really want goblin sieges now that I actually have access to iron. D:

Edit: Just opened the water flow in the aqueduct system. Because my brewers are refusing to brew some idioit dorfs are running through the arilock system INTO the water to get a drink. Or get a stone, seeing how it's a craft dorf.

Dorfen stupidity never ceases to amaze.

EDIT: Correction, the craft dorf IS SLEEPING at the top of the aqueducts. Surprisingly the water is draining fast enough that s/he is ALIVE.

What on Earth is going on here.

UPDATE: Cistern is to small, well is over flowing. BUT not all is lost. You see there is a flood gate I installed to so seal off the water source in case of contamination, but, it seems If I pull it, the fort will be saved. This is because, it ,well, seals off the water source.

Alright, floodgate pulled, fort is save. That was too close, in fact, I was about to rage abandon when I realized I had installed the flood gate.

Edit: The idiot craftdorf made it out of the aqueduct alive, and thirsty dorfs are drinking from the puddle in the hospital the occurred from the well incident.

Alright then, make a particle shield using drawbridges, babies, and cloth socks.

Can you still get minecarts? 'Cause I think you should make the baby shotgun.

You need to enact a baby cap, NOW!

Or mod the game so you can't get migrants.

Or go lord of the rings on them and throw all the babies in a artificially made volcano.

Or round up every male in the fort and throw them in a artificially made volcano.

Or make a dwarven style minecart shotgun that has babies for ammo.

Soo, any updates? Or did Kivish get eaten by a zombie head?

You should turn the elephant into a city for the select few dwarves you like. Also, make sure to put fortifications in the most comedic spots.

"AHAHAHAHHAAAA, TAKE THOSE ANAL BOLTS, GOBLINS!"

It's a love hate relationship. I absolutely HATE breaching them, but they have so many uses. I remember that someone on these forums created a bioweapon aquifer by contaminating a pool with extract, due to the way the game works this translated a self replicating flood of death. I will probably in this forts later years try and make a ice cannon, but that is not now.

I should also mention the aquifer in my fort is three layers thick and covers (I think) the entire map. Breaching it requires a massive freeze through pit or an uber plug.

Welp, the Armageddon is here. No not demons, Migrants. I had 13 dorfs before they arrived.

Now I have 36.

Those farms better work double time, and this well needs to get up FAST.

Oh, I should probably mention my water source is a aquifer, since I don't fancy the idea of a web-shooting Turtle-hawk coming out of my well. There is also the possibility of me dieing horribly to pressure, but it's on over the other.

Well, if you can fish in caves, you just need to set up a proper system that feeds the Fishedorfs to FB's when they arrive by sealing them out of the fort.

I seem to be in a survivable situation if everything were to stay put as is, BUUUUUUUT it just became Spring. Being that 3rd migrant wave is coming soon I am very afraid. While I have enough meat and housing to sustain the dorf migrants for a wee bit, fluids are the problem now. All plants are solely dedicated brewing right now, but I don't know if they can produce enough drinks. If all comes to worst I will have to breach the walls I built to protect me from the Crundles In the mean time, I will need to begin the hospital project, as that would lead to the creation of a well.

I might just be over reacting, but seeing how this is dwarf fortress....

But I thought they were Humans?

And in my struggling fort, Rinsewhipped, the Crundle threat may be over, but they left their mark.

My refuse piles are literally almost completely filled up with Crundle parts. It seems as soon as one refuse pile is dug out, it is instantly filled. I need to get bone crafting operations up pronto!

No, seriously, according to the stocks menu there are 134 body parts lying around. Easily 80% of the dead stuff around here is crundles.

EDIT: Well, It appears that I am out of drinks, and have sealed off my water supplies. I only have 14 plants, according to the Z menu. Anyone want to take bets on how many die of dehydration?

My Human Village has eighty people in it. 50 of them are children. 100% of those children were born in the fortress.

Do you humans idolize rabbits or guppies?
