So how would I make values in the Holdings class consist of a string and an int, or would I not be able to use a class with that method? From what I can tell I would be going through all of the data in the file, then creating new str and int variables for each value? How would I do that?

But if I did that, how would I distinguish between, say, the food variables of different empires? Would I necessarily have to make every single string unique?

For this thing http://pastebin.com/5yb3KW3W

Would making a loop that uses an ifstream and only stops when the inputted string matches strStartRead, then proceeds to read what I want it to work? If so, is there a better way to do that?

Some of my mines are misrepresented as New. Just 1 though, as near as I can tell. In addition, 5 were destroyed but only 4 show as destroyed in my mines tab. Thats all I noticed though!
I think that's because you built 5 mines on the Hobbit mainland, but there were only 4 spaces available. A space opened up when the dragon destroyed one of your mines, so I just rebuilt it. I'm pretty sure that the list of mines is legit.

((When the serpent arrives at the Volcano of Anguish, does it cease to exist, or does it stick around to defend the volcano?))
It disappears back into the magma sea, never to be seen again.

Cede J-35 to the Elves. The army stationed there remains in place, stealthed.
Terra would have to agree to this, and something tells me he won't.

I heard it was a Dead Space lookalike and that the main character is Nicolas Cage.
That sounds like a recipe for success.

Where should I put it? At the top with iostream and stuff?

The errors are at:
line 166, where the >> operator "matches no operands"
lines 167-212 where it can't compare strY with a string using strcmp (which as Cerapa said is expected), or compare strY to strings using == (which is a problem).
line 213 where != "does not match these operands"

"Armoring" was a poor example, but it doesn't work for any of the streams that use ==. strEndRead is declared in the parenthesis of the function that the loop resides in.
Streams? You mean strings?

I didn't mean its location. Is strEndRead a char array?
yes I meant strings and no it's an std::string.

Well I can't see what. It's all there in the pastebin, so you could take a look there and see if you see anything. == won't work when comparing an std::string to a string in the file (such as "armoring") or in (strY != strEndRead). The compiler just says "no operator '==' or '!=' matches these operands."

But == isn't working with the std::string either. Oh well I guess I'll go back to using character arrays and use strcmp. Thank you.

When I do this http://pastebin.com/HHYxn40x (changing Y and EndRead into std::strings and using strmcmp for my conditions), the compiler tells me that I cannot assign strY with a value from my ifstream and that I cannot use the strings as conditions, whether I use strcmp or ==. It says that "no conversion function from std::string and const char exists."
