Are there any tanks with turrets that are only held on by gravity like a battleship's? I've heard that the M1A1/A2 is like this but I can't find any real evidence.

UF-GALT-43 "Last Chance"

The United Forenian Gyroscopic Auto-Loading Turret 1943 "Last Chance" is a turret designed to be compatible with our Very Expensive Bjorn Heavy, Expensive T33 Medium, and our Cheap T25 and Breaker Light tanks.

The UF-GALT-43 "Last Chance" makes use of a gyroscopic stabilizer to allow a tank to fire accurately while on the move.  The Auto-Loader reduces the size of the turret, and removes a loader from the already cramped confines of the Bjorn.  The Last Chance makes use of our 100 mm cannon, Very Heavy armor, flooded ammo stowage, and comes with a stencil and can of spray paint to allow crews to easily add kill markers to the side.

Sweet, simply, and deadly-effective in open areas.  Highly mobile tanks are key in areas like the desert, I'm pretty sure Rommel showed us that.  Being able to shoot while on the move means our assaults don't slow down.
An autoloader means a smaller and therefore less expensive (less armor needed) and more survivable turret for ALL of our tanks, plus the stabilizer as a sweet cherry on top. I like it!

Excuse me, a 20 minute long pixel art animation? I'm pretty sure that would take you months and also be the first time anyone's made a pixel art animation that's that long

I really don't think that they're going to be like swarming over us because of the nightvision. It's a 22 pound backpack and scope combo and it's expensive. That doesn't even sound like you could equip a a whole squad with a spotlight and a dozen scopes and have them go raiding, let alone company-level assaults that would be strategically meaningful. It's probably going to be more like what the role was in Vietnam, a device for night defense. Doesn't sound like a disaster to me.

GMs tend to do that already when things are truly supplanted.  There's just that many different roles to play.
Eh? Is there an Arms Race where this is an explicitly mechanic and not just something GMs do because they've gone over the word count on a post? If there is I wasn't aware and I retract what I said.

Otherwise:
I'm not sure if you understood my suggestion? I know that GMs already push older designs into a "legacy" or "obsolete" category when they interpret them to be overshadowed by another weapon, but they do that to save space in equipment posts and because they can't write about every single weapon in battle reports, it's not an action the players make and no one is rewarded for it, that's just bookkeeping. I'm saying to put the responsibility on the players to decide when something is obsolete and reward that action with a bonus to a design or revision roll.

I like 1.2, the relative simplicity is really attractive.

What if you could formally and permanently make equipment obsolete as a free action during the design or revision phase? What that does is make it so that equipment is no longer used for combat turns but is still available as research. I see this mainly as a way to help GMs with upkeep and players with not having too much junk to keep track of, it also makes sense that a military would retire equipment instead of having a constantly growing list of types of weapons that would begin to strain logistics.

I'm not sure what the reward would be. Maybe if you decide to obsolete a piece of equipment you can apply a bonus to a design or a revision roll? I don't think players should be punished for having too much gear or that hard caps should be put on gear, just that a mechanic should be put in place to allow useless equipment to naturally become extinct or to recycle a bad design into the next turn as a comeback (or a last resort) mechanic when one side is having really bad luck so that a losing side doesn't lose a ton of momentum when they critically fail.

I almost forgot about the padded cheek rest!
What cheek?.

I AM curious about the possibility of red dot sights for a marksman variant.
Ever try to look at your phone outside in the afternoon? Even modern red dot sights kind of suck to use during the daytime because the dot isn't bright enough. Also, LEDs didn't become commercially viable until the 60s, not that that's stopped us from inventing things that didn't exist in actual history but you need integrated circuits and that sounds rough.

Also Autodesk Sketchbook recently became free! Here's some relevant links:
Autodesk Sketchbook: https://sketchbook.com/
Krita: https://krita.org/en/download/krita-desktop/

Also I'm pretty sure CS2 only has a free download for people who originally paid for it.
