DF General Discussion / Re: Dwarf Fortress research questionnaire

Datas is all yours!

Anyway, I love procedurally generated story. Hope you can put this to good use!

Check your orders menu to see what the refuse settings are. Also make sure available dwarves have refuse hauling on, and that the stockpile isn't full of vermin remains or butchering products (I would recommend using a garbage dump instead of a refuse stockpile, and manually designating corpses for dumping). Also confirm that any burrows, civilian alerts, undead badgers etc aren't preventing your dwarves from reaching the area.
Ah, thanks. The orders were the problem and it's fixed now.

Like the title says, my dwarves hate putting things in refuse piles. Vermin corpses are in the beer, a dead kobold is in the hall, but they won't take them away. The things are not forbidden and there are idle dwarves. What am I doing wrong?

You require water to make farms underground?
We're talking about growing cave vegetation on stone if there isn't dirt available. The moss or whatever else would be for an underground pasture.

One of these days, I'd like to build a variant Singularity Engine:
bigpicsnip
Speaking of building sing engines, I'm trying to make a map for my own private just-to-mess-around server. Right now I'm making the engine and I have no clue what's going to happen when I try to start it. Most likely the sing won't even initialize, and if it does it will probably blow up in my face. Just don't give me any tips. I want to map blind (and probably fail horribly).

Dig inside, set up initial stockpiles to get everything inside, and if there's water or soil get some farms/stills up and running pronto. ;D
Oh, and if you can, dig into the first cavern if there's ground for stuff to grow on, for an indoor pasture.
Well we might encounter hostile things. We have a rudimentary military, but I doubt they can fend off a horde of troglodytes or crundles.
I meant just quickly dig a tunnel into it, preferably from above, then seal it up again to let underground plants grow, if we have water available to make mud. That is, unless you want to attempt to capture and tame the inhabitants of the caverns (silk farms, anyone?)
That might be a good idea (the pasture, not the silk farm, at least not yet). And we can save our alpacas from the inevitable lava flood, most likely from the dwarf head.

DF Suggestions / Re: Passanger trains

Oddly enough, they were invented before the cut-off date, according to Wikipedia, though I'd guess they could probably be fitted in with the same rationale as magma forges in any case.
A lot of things were invented before the cutoff date that you might not expect. For example, I believe vending machines were invented in a rudimentary form around the year 7.

Looks pretty good. I wonder how an artifact like Planepacked would look? It would probably be just whiteness because it's infinite repeatedness would cause the universe to collapse. But you can try!

69
How big should it be?
The dorf face I mean.
I dunno; the cliff? I mean, I'm pretty sure goblin invaders are going to have a massive morale loss when they see they're charging a gigantic dwarf face carved into the mountain that preferably barfs magma.
Hmm, that sounds promising so +1
Indeed. There is no better defense than a fifty foot dwarf face that barfs magma and preferably shoots elves out of its eyeholes. Sadly that is not possible at this time but +1 to the magma barfing dwarf face.

Burrow into the cliff! :D
+1

Dig out a big room to bring all the supplies inside. You're in a mountain biome, so it's only a matter of time before the keas come and take everything you know and love.

+1 Storing everything is a priority. Don't want the keas to start feasting on the rum!

I say three wide, for caravans.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Oh God...it's back....THE URGE!

You know, the same thing happens to me. But only for DF. I don't have lapses where I don't play SS13 for example. But just recently another DF urge has built up in me, and now I'm playing again. However in a few months I'm sure I'll stop again.

"Boatmurdered lol" is going to become a meme now, isn't it?

I'm afraid so, unfortunately. *sighs*

Edit: In adventurer mode, the only quest anyone in this town will give me is to go kill a vampire with 2174 kills. That may be a bit beyond my peasants capabilities.

Thing is, vampires kill their prey sneakily, so they need not have any combat skill at all while having killed fifty gazillion idiots.
