DF Gameplay Questions / Re: The military still causing me problems...
« on: February 14, 2024, 01:20:50 pm »
For uniforms and equipment, the only functionality missing is:
- You can't adjust ammo, rations, and drink as before.
- You cannot modify existing uniforms
The rest, including WearOver/Replace and Exact Only, works the same.

...
How do I make it so the units only train such and such a month, and only in certain numbers.  I could do that with the old system.
...
I don't have a video, but you can do that with scheduling still. Scheduling has not changed at all except for the interface. The function of Alerts seem to be shifted into the Burrows screen.

For this example, have at least two squads (squad A and squad B) and one burrow... the example will create a squad with 4 off-duty, 3 defending a burrow, and 3 training, all year.

Step 1, getting to the Schedules screen:
- click 'q' to open Squads screen, then select two squads, then click 'Schedule' button
Now you are looking at a table showing Squads versus Routines. This screen is where you can copy/paste a yearly schedule between squads.

Step 2, adding a new Routine column and a new monthly set of Orders:
- create a new Routine by clicking 'add/edit Routines (columns)' button, click 'add new Routine' button, name it "Routine A", then click 'Done'
- click the '>>' button to scroll right to find the "Routine A" column, then click its 'Edit' button for squad A. The window that opens is where you will create a set of Orders used during one month.
- the default is 10 dwarfs, lower it to 3, so each new order you add is assigned 3 dwarfs.
- there are four buttons at the bottom, click the one for [/\] button and you'll see a "At least 3 Train" Order added, along with a Delete button
- find the burrow defense button, click it, select a burrow, and click the Confirm button. You'll see a "At least 3 Defend burrow" Order added.
- choose if you want dwarfs to wear uniforms while off-duty (not important for this example, but this is where the setting is changed)
- change name to "Orders A" and click 'Done Editing' button.
You will see Squad A has "Orders A" listed in the "Routine A" column, while Squad B still has "No orders" in that column.

Step 3, creating a staggered training schedule (maybe you want extra hauling power in early autumn):
- Use the Copy button to copy Squad A's "Orders A" and Paste it to Squad B. Now they both have the same yearly schedule.
- for Squad A, click the "View Monthly Schedule". You'll see "Routine A" column shows 12 months of "Orders A". Look in the other columns for a "No orders" month and Copy it, then paste it into the "Routine A" column in a few months. 'Escape' back to the main Schedules table and you'll see "monthly orders", indicating Squad A is not following the same orders every month, but Squad B still is.

So, the elephant is having problems both eating and walking now, as the parasitical worms work their way into new organs.

if you measure the volume of "confidential documents", the volume of "willingness to comply", the volume of "intent to obstruct"...

in biden the report found a minnow and in trump it found a whale

EJ’s a dyed in the wool Republican RINO, brah.

Yeah... they are unlikely to take the drones or drone operators away from the land/sea/air forces. They will probably induct about 15% of the people from each force and built up a core of common knowledge and training, which will be applied back to the specific environments the land/sea/air forces work in.

Doing this in wartime is better than in peacetime, since the unit will be formed with more merit than politics.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Prepared ingredient spoiling in kitchen
« on: February 10, 2024, 02:46:59 pm »
From time to time I get the message that the cook cancelled a job because not enough solid or unrotten ingredients, but I thought they checked for ingredients before they start the job, then flag the items they want to lock them. But me cancel them? No, I am pretty much hands off that level of micro anymore. Adding tasks to a specific workshop is about the most I interfere in the manager's job, and the first task in the game is a chair.
They do not check to ensure there is enough to complete the job, they TSK-flag and haul one item at a time.

I have not tried Take from kitchen, now that you mention it. But yeah, there's a small stockpile that enabled all food so I can keep track of which things don't have stockpiles or have full barrels, but after about a year, the only reason anything ever ends up there is full barrels.

A little more information I have before it went miasma is that while I could mark it for Dump, no one would haul it away. Everything else I marked D, sure, they would haul that. But not those. I couldn't even autodump them.
 compete with other refuse stockpiles)
The Dump task may low priority, I have those "why aren't they moving it now" questions also. Maybe there was a labor shortage at that time they should have been moving the food, giving it time to start rotting (maybe small food items start rotting sooner?). I would
1) verify the kitchen doesn't Give to any stockpile that would limit removing unused ingredients
2) ensure there is a small Refuse/Item stockpile set up to receive the various food items (fresh food will never be brought here, and by having a separate stockpile for those rotting food items, it avoids potential competition with other refuse items jamming up the stockpile).

Putin is a great actor. The video was "putin is grandpa and just hanging out and laughing and doesn't lose his mirth even when the topic gets serious...", because putin wants everyone to believe he is "not stressed", so he probably is.

The interview was a series of "scenes", with each scene intended to show an emotional display, and intended to debunk global-media ideas like "putin is stressed" "putin is feeble" "putin is sick", etc, because western media only shows clips of putin when they are trying to fear-monger the western public, and western media doesn't show clips of putin when they are saying how russia is hurting.

Was the "cook meal" job cancelled?
Is there a stockpile set to Take from your kitchen?
Does that stockpile accept yak eyes?

Hur's report was designed to put both biden and trump in the most unfavorable light possible for each. It is an apple-to-apple comparison that showed favoritism to neither. It is a good step towards keeping the institution non-political and towards making clear that other @!^%#@! politicians can and probably will be persecuted and prosecuted fairly.

The first step towards improving governance is to show politicians what "doing the job you were brought in to do" looks like.

So if age-discrimination is your thing, bernie is a better choice than either trump or biden... excellent!

I don't expect a change in military leaders will result in Ukraine beginning to make meat waves. No general is going to do that and while it is something the Russians do with their troops, it is also something the Russians want Ukrainians to believe will happen to them, because fear-leading-to-surrender is their goal.

As long as Ukraine is striking into pre-war-Russia, the occupied territories are still contested.

27
Some relevant sociology

Note how "popular" Zelensky was just before the war. He is slowly falling back there.
62% is not that bad considering the situation. It is easy to blame the leader when the future is uncertain, but there are also Ukrainian politicians and businessmen who see Zelensky as a direct competitor, and there are pro-Russian people and pro-Russian funding... These will all be sources of discontent for Ukraine in that next election. This is why I see Zaluzhny as a good political competitor for Zelensky, the Ukrainians would be getting someone who is fighting for them either way.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Can a Dwarf use a bow?
« on: February 09, 2024, 02:22:46 am »
There used to be a bug when a dwarf equipped a bow but there were no arrows in the fort. They would stand over some bolts, attempting to put them in a quiver and failing, then repeating.

29
If Zaluzhny becomes involved in politics against Zelensky, it will be a good thing. Zaluzhny has been in involved in the war against Russia since the beginning and he will not sell out Ukraine to Russia, which is exactly what any other candidate running against Zelensky is likely to do.

Has there been protests within Belarus against the the Russia-Ukraine war (that were allowed to continue)? Is there any sort of mutual military agreements between Belarus and Russia, where “in accordance with joint military statutes" might apply?
