In Congress, GOP failed a vote, 214 to 216, to impeach Mayorkas.

And, Gaetz & Stefanik are pushing a resolution which would "declare trump didn't engage in an insurrection". (article). I am hoping the same republicans who refused to vote for the Mayorkas impeachment also refuse to vote for the Trump talking point.

And, in Oregon, most of "the Republican state senators are prohibited from running for re-election as a result of their repeated boycotts of legislative sessions last year".

The pdf.

EDIT: that The Hill article says:
Quote
And as the former president appeals his immunity claims, the district court proceedings have been on hold. The delay has already derailed the original March 4 trial date and is continuing to inch the timing closer to the 2024 election.

If Trump wants to keep his trial proceedings from moving ahead, however, Tuesday’s ruling effectively forces him to appeal to the Supreme Court by Feb. 12.
So, it looks like he only has 6 days to file the appeal, but I don't know why.

The butchers will only butcher corpses that are within about 15 tiles of the workshop and are fresh. And, dwarfs will not haul corpses from the surface to the stockpile unless you change the default setting in the Standing Orders, to Allow Dwarfs to collect Refuse from Outside.

Once you change the setting, they'll haul the corpses, but if the corpse is rotten, the butchers will wait until the meat rots away before separating the bone.

The tarantula attacked by the tarantula hawk wasp is still living when it gets attacked and dragged away. The wasp then lays an egg on it,  the egg develops, hatches, and the larva makes a hole in the spider, slips inside and eats it from the inside out, all the whole avoiding organs to keep the spider alive as long as possible.
...
A unique way to keep your food fresh.

Willis only developed a relationship with Wade AFTER she had already hired him

Well, that's certainly a claim.

More at issue is that she's paying him $100/hr more than the other prosecutors who have actual experience with federal crimes, and it seems he took her on vacations with that money.

Bonus: Foreshadowing from April 2020
Fanis Willis filed her response on Friday. Here is a link to a PBS article that gave a direct link to her response pdf.

This is part of what Willis posted about Wade regarding experience (he's been at this for 25 years and he is highly regarded in his region by the judiciary and by lawyers):

Regarding his pay rate, Willis included this in her court filing (main point in bold):

There are also many receipts that people will claw through. Having one person buy both tickets is normal when you want adjacent seats.

So, getting particles down to near-0 kelvin seems impossible due to Heisenberg uncertainty of the electrons... Just pointing this out because you can't get infinity if your divisor refuses to reach 0. Or, could we measure the Kelvin measurement at 0 if we could measure it while zooming by at near-c?

Trump needs consolidation of the GOP base... This is going to be more important to him than picking a "loyal" VP. He would take DeSantis/Scott/Ramaswamy if it brings voters back to him.

So, considering the influence that Israel has in American politics, which political group in Israel would want Biden, which would want Trump, and which would want Haley?

Trump is on fire, Biden has staff making trouble for Bibi's gang, and Haley just starting talking back about Biden's sanctions on Israeli's in the West Bank. I think she just got Bibi's support...
Any answer to this question is blatantly anti-semitic, so hard pass.
Are you suggesting that Israel wants everyone to "speak to the hand and not the face, but to believe when the face speaks to you?"

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Demon resident. Cloth size?
« on: February 02, 2024, 03:28:28 pm »
To add to FourierSeries post, if they have clothing, the clothing description will say "sized for ...". But, you still might not have the option to choose that body type in the forge's job details.

There is/was a way to determine the actual cm3 size of a specific creature using DT, and there might be a way to see it in dfhack EDIT (: here in this thread you can see how dfhack can show it), that will get at least an ill-fitting set of armor for them, but in the end, they may not be able to wear any armor just because they're not on the list allowing them too.

EDIT: fixed link

c) and druids, which would be like necromancers only for elves and trees or/and like ASOIAF's skinchangers - Imagine that, a squirrel deactivating your traps! Elephant building destroyers. Who needs elves riding dragons when the dragon is one?
...
Agitated wildlife raids that are sent by elven druids and arrive clad in grown wooden armor, and with some combat skill. Since players enjoy their highly savage worlds, they'll also enjoy the horror of wooden armor so heavy and thick that steel maces bounce off it.

AWOL wagons that get into trees should be able to use their vantage point to ambush nearby dwarfs with aerial wrestling techniques, like moonsaults and diving headbutts.

Aren't there already laws for dual-citizenship that make it acceptable to bring them to court in the USA for actions taken in other countries? There should be... It would make sense that some cases might not be accepted, but if you allow your people to commit actions in other countries, that would be illegal in yours, then they will import that crap back to your country.

Well, when I get those thoughts, sometimes it is because I'm struggling with finishing a project... Like currently, finishing plans to drop an obsidian tower into the ocean. Did you finish all your projects?

And, did you apply magma to everything that could be magma'fied, that you might want to magma'fy for fun?

I listened to Edward Luce on The Bulwark and he was talking about trump, capitalism, and monopolies... Where the USA has behaved as if capitalism and democracy go hand in hand, but that there is "contract capitalism" with transparent rules and regulations that are equally applied by a state with a robust court system, and "patronage capitalism" with businesses that are either in or out of favor, leading to business monopolies where the leaders of those businesses can be replaced by "the leader", and that trump would implement "patronage capitalism" (much paraphrasing here, but essentially that...). And he pointed out the examples of how the many Russian oligarchs are all dependent on Putin letting them do business, that Putin could destroy any one of them through executive powers and give the business to another, and how similar things have happened in Hungary. With that picture of how the wealthy would be controlled through loss of wealth, it is a certainty that civilians would destroyed with impunity, including EJ Carrol.
That would be a form of mercantilism, not capitalism. A lot of people nowadays treat mercantilism as somehow a subtype of capitalism, but that doesn't make any sense and, historically, capitalism was conceived of as the opposite of then-dominant mercantilism. Since it's essentially a kind of command economy, calling it capitalism is just formally wrong.
Formally wrong... sure. I accept the idea that I described mercantilism as a form of capitalism and it is not a form of capitalism, but take a look at how mercantilism as a word shows up in google:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
If you poll a large quantity of less-uneducated people with a question like "how is mercantilism different than capitalism", they will not understand the question, and the responses would be a salad of idioms and annoyance. The reality is that they have no definition for "mercantilism" and they use "capitalism" to express both definitions. This is the result of propaganda by those who want to be unrestrained in their attempts to put others in economic slavery... they hide themselves under the "good" definition of "capitalist" when they are actually representatives of mercantilism. War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Mercantilism is Capitalism...

So, how do you teach a few million people to differentiate when one word holds two concepts? Start using common adjectives.... Did you notice mainstream media started using "maga republicans" as an phrase to differentiate between types of republicans? And years before, "fiscal conservative" came into use to fix the misuse of "conservative"?

"Contract capitalism" and "patronage capitalism" may be clunky, but "Terms and Conditions" contracts and patronage payments are common concepts now, and the word capitalism needs to be de-fouled. Like you said, "capitalism was conceived of as the opposite of then-dominant mercantilism", and in Orwellian fashion, the mercantilists have DoubleSpoke themselves into being capitalists.

It seems that in the same way wikipedia developed, there would be an attempt to make useful AIs available without the profit motive being the primary use.

I mean, right now I've no doubt there are AI's constantly working to fill in the gaps in "civilian data maps" for businesses like Palantir, in an attempt to ensure that when someone pays enough to buy data about a person, their historical data is already available.
