DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Preventing Tantrum Spirals

My god, I am learning new things every day just surfing these forums. Now it looks like i need to revise my lame 3x3 bedroom blocks and get those pet goats out of sun danger. I have a simpler method, I harden the dwarves with intentionally poor security,(with military on standby of course) along with ornate dining rooms. good meals, and lots and lots of beer.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Face Palm moments you had

Well, i had a very unfortunate run in with physics. We had a small pool in which dwarves were wading in and out of scrubbing blood and grime off themselves and right into the pool. Combined with the babies drinking from the bloody pool, a Kobold fell through murky pool hatch about 3 stories above the pool and landed stomach first and puked all his guts and teeth right into the water. The squad of crossbowdwarves refilling their canteens had some very sloppy target practice... I decided the miners needed some work and decided to make a well and destroy that literal bloodbath. I made a huge ornate room and set it as a new meeting hall to ease off the crowding in the first one. My triple legendary miners and my 2 newbies began working hard on the first well, and completed it within 5 minutes irl.

I decided that a second one couldn't hurt, so i began set out the plans and my minions followed. I completely forgot to restrict the actual well hole itself, and dwarves suddenly found themselves being pelted with rock 30 stories above them. A single patch was left at the top, and a single last one was at the bottom. #1, expedition leader-mayor-miner extraordinaire is suddenly smacked in the head by a boulder of galena. The extreme heavy ore of lead. His upper spine is broken and he becomes paralyzed from the neck down, and cant breath. A newbie up top who mined that bit runs away to his bedroom, and #2 runs to his best friends aid. 1 dies in 2's arms, and 2 goes up top and builds the well after hauling the body off to its tomb. 2 drinks some sunshine and gets over it.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Egg problems.

Somebody in your fortress has "food hauling" enabled, right?

Of course! Everyone but the miners have all hauling labors enabled. All have legs, and around a quarter are idle as I type.

Well, after saving and exiting a couple of times, the cook seems to have found his own hands and went to cooking. I hope this bug is fixed in future versions!

DF Gameplay Questions / Egg problems.

Well, this is my first post after months of lurking, so i will keep it short. I also may be in the wrong forum area too, but here goes!

I read about the incredible amounts of food people get after nesting a couple of hens, so i embarked with a hen and a rooster. Unsurprisingly, i received around 25 eggs within 3 months. Major problem though, the cook cannot figure these things out and refuses to cook them. This wouldnt be as much as a problem other than the fact that we have 1 measly pond turtle left for food stores, with 20 hungry dwarfs clamoring over it. So, is there any way to fix this bug? I have dumped, forbid, and googled nonstop for the past 30 minutes and cant figure it out. Thanks in advance for reading this!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your Archnemesis
« on: August 08, 2012, 02:30:39 am »
My arch Nemesis is almost always water and lack there-of. Mostly because of my poor planning when it comes to food and beer amounts. In one of my most desperate moments i sent a team down to the caves to get to the deeper level. They never came back.

i apologize, water is not alive.

My living Nemesis is the lazy brewer who fails to do his job when more than half the fortress is freaking out. Big sentence, eh? grammernazis love me.
