'Unknown Material' sounds like a glitch. Do you have DFHack set up? We can investigate it further if you do.

Is that really the internal programming for the clowns? Trying to leave the map?

Zombies != Clowns

Some terminology for you:

Curious Structure == Circus Tent
Adamantine == Cotton Candy
Clowns ==

Clown Car == Release of Clowns

In the case of the tent, you can consider the zombies to be the local population, come to see the circus.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Everburning Dwarf ‼SCIENCE‼?
« on: January 29, 2013, 02:41:43 am »
…why would anyone want a magma-resistant ‼monarch‼? It does not seem as practical as a regular ‼monarch‼…

Chances are that it is not random if a dwarf can remain burning through other forts. Once someone can reliably incinerate a dwarf without cremating it, the real ‼SCIENCE‼ can begin.

To help the cause, I shall donate some goblins test subjects elves and my magma tank Operation FTW˛ my water heater that prevents my aboveground resivoir from freezing in winter to the cause. There shall be ‼SCIENCE‼! And there shall be Cake.

EDIT: In case it is not clear, my research will not deal with multiple forts, but rather with reliably inducing fiends of nature to…never have to create a campfire again. Without killing them. Chances are that the same method can also be used on dwarves nobility.

EDIT˛: Cross-linking

I don't really use homerow (properly). What I don't understand is why you need to know homerow the _proper_ way. If you can type 100WPM (a feat in itself) your own way, I feel it is a lot better than knowing the proper homerow technique.

There is no one single way to do anything, from fortress design to typing to programming. To pull from PERL, "There's more than one way to do it."

I personally can type quite quickly, with my fingers roaming all over the keyboard; I need to glance every now and then (just so I can confirm where my fingers are), but I'm a faster typer than most people at my old school. The typing tests there were for homerow, and I had no trouble at all.

EDIT: "Most people" including administration.

Don't think of it as abandoning. Think of it as putting it in a state of stasis, to be resumed later. I have a number of .7z archives sitting in my saves folder, to be loaded up again when bugs are fixed.

The save should be compatable; the most major change was from .07 to .08, where:
* Minecarts and Wheelbarrows were introduced (Toady made it so that old saves can get I think it was a wheelbarrow, it was a while ago)
* Wagons are in again (from traders) (wagons can not pass over traps; however, traps already built in pre-08 games still permit wagons)
* Hauling overhaul (reactions have been changed) (you should be able to edit your raws yourself to get the new ratios)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Victory conditions -- what should they be?
« on: January 28, 2013, 04:43:07 am »
You shouldn't be able to win, this is a roguelike, you don't win, you win when you lose.
...wat

I beat NetHack offline and twice on NAO. I came here because I was starting to get bored of NH.

Proof of winning:

Your argument is invalid.

-----------------------------

Did you mean that this is a _sandbox_? Because it is, and there are no winning conditions for sandboxes, nor should there be. Sandboxes are about creativity, not winning. Heck, my friend who introduced me to NetHack (which indirectly introduced me to DF) only beat the game once, and I don't think he has played again ever since. But Dwarf Fortress, as a sandbox, with no victory condition established, cannot truely be beaten. And if it were to, a lot of the fans might end up leaving it for something else.

IIRC DFHack can fix thoughts about being naked. I forget the command though...

I just wanted to ask, has anyone ever had a salesman that they thought was like the Happy Mask Salesman?

Of course. Elves tend to get angry if you try to give them wooden objects. Or if they lose their diplomat.
However, the diplomat is not cursed and

Something is WRONG with their defenses. How did a gobbo or w/e get that far without becoming a ‼gobbo‼?

Hook into the power system, and apply a huge load to it to halt it.
