DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Map editor..?
« on: January 18, 2013, 05:25:48 am »
Best case would be using DFHack's tiletypes tool.

Probably the best thing for your purposes might be ASCIIDraw. It is like a tile editor, consisting of all of CP437. Look it up. If you aren't trying to get dorfs into the dungeon, it is probably the best thing for what you need.

They do. Werebuffalo Human arrived at my very same fort earlier (as human). Woodcutters job cancelled. Steps on a trap, caged.

Apparently werebuffalos are building destroyers, tried destroying my artifact floodgate with artifact mechanism that is for access into my…err…arena. Which had gobbos (and a ‼gobbo‼, don't ask) serving as marksdwarf practice at the time. When it turned, goes up to my floodgate and just stops, correct distance for building destroying, and just stops. And stands there until a ☼«≡iron bolt≡»☼ tears up the brain.

Off-topic: I got my Caps Lock key to act as a Compose key. It is very fun.

It might be related to some strange bug I had last night.

A were-elk (IIRC) showed up at my fortress in moon phase "(" (just before full moon). They started beating up the wildlife until phase "O" (full moon) when they turned into an elf (listed as friendly), who hung around the map until I let my military out on them.

While they didn't go and attack my dwarves, there was a bit of confusion with the phase of moon and phase of creature. There is a chance something is borked in the code...were there any binary patches applied to your executable?

For future reference, trees don't grow on tiles that are paved over (either <C>onstructed <f>loor or Paved R<o>ads). They also don't grow on heavily transversed paths. I tend to pave my one-wide tree-supporting surfaces if they are needed pathways.

OTOH, just recently, a GCS in Cavern 1 was blocked from accessing my fort by a single tree in a 1-wide path.

I can never go beyond ~400-500 years, then again I like to play big maps with many civs and sites. How did you get that far? Playing a small map?

Also how many kills does those dragons have? Having lived for 2000 years can rack up a killcount if they arent passive.

Big mama: 5
Big dad: 0
children: doubtful any.

hmm, need to find a more powerfull hosting server to upload the world save.

Well i think one dwarf can only have one mood in a lifetime so taking a dorf who already made an artifact of sorts should solve this problem... i think.

Then again i'm not willing to bet on that.

I would. 100000☼

Do you cull historical figures?

You know the Embark screen? Where you select the location?

That is the world.

But there is a lot more depth than you can see there - civilizations (see the [c] screen ingame) will migrate, etc. in worldgen, and the new release will let them do it during gameplay too.
Another feature is that you don't have to abandon to work on a new fort, but rather you can just leave the fort and come back to it later (of course, there are small penalties of disarray since dwarves are stupid)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Kobold problems
« on: December 13, 2012, 03:39:30 pm »
Some stragetic sneaking scum sometimes successfully skips subpar security system 'spite stationary sanitizers - suggestions? (sans "station")

In layman's terms...

I have some kobolds that are somehow getting past my guard dogs - I know because my most recent kobold sighting was in my main stockpile. I have my 2 war dogs on ropes, like so: (NetHack symbols)
-------
...d...
.......
...d...
-------

(the dogs are right atop their ropes)
Somehow, kobolds are STILL getting past. I don't want to station the military; any other suggestions?

-------

It _might_ be possible that the kobolds are taking this path, but I doubt it - it is longer than shortest path. Also shouldn't the dogs still see them?
