Other Games / Dragon Ball Games- Budokai/Tenkaichi/Raging Blast/etc.
« on: November 04, 2014, 06:22:00 am »
So, I noticed there wasn't a thread for this, and having just gotten Raging Blast 2, I thought I would start it up.

So first off, what games have you played, and what were your favs?

I have both Raging Blasts now, as well as the horribad Ultimate Tenkaichi (just HAD to see hero mode for myself :P)

I currently like the first RB combat best, its more fluid then the second one, but seemingly everyone who plays only has the second, plus more characters, so I'm slowly relearning to fight.

Basically this is just a suggestion that there should be some option to start an adventure or fortress as the first, or at least one of the first, creatures/civilizations in the world.

Currently there is generally a year or two of worldgen going on before you can start up, and I think it would be fun to fully be part of the "first generation" and to more fully control the way the world eventually develops.

Bonus points if you can set some morals and etc. for the civilization on startup, instead of them being tied fully to race (though that may count as a totally different suggestion)

Life Advice / Credit Card stuffs
« on: September 19, 2014, 07:01:13 am »
So I've just started getting my first mails where people want me to take up their credit cards. Today I got one for Chase "Slate" which looked like a pretty decent one, at least according to my mom.

So background info: I'm just about 23, have lived with my mom forever, and have had no credit card of my own. Live in US. I have a pretty good education on the possible perils of such things because America and fairly low income.
Currently the only "credit" I suppose I have to my name is I co-signed on a loan with my mom to buy our second van (driving job, and bought from my grandmother so it was pretty cheap) though the loan probably won't be payed off for another year or so.

My real question is: what would be a good credit card to start off with? The one which I was offered had no interest for 2 years then variable interest at 17% (mom said its usually around 19 to 21% to start)

For those who don't know, building credit is sorta important in the US, and I would like to have an avenue to start doing so.

I'm not looking for things like travel rewards or whatnot, just something with low interest (preferably without the "variable" part, though I suspect such things might not exist)

What are "normal" interest rates according to you guys' experiences? I trust my mom, but always helps to have a second opinion on things.

Life Advice / Obtaining College Level Textbooks Independently
« on: September 02, 2014, 11:51:06 pm »
So this is something I'm fully expecting to be nigh-impossible, but I have a decided lack of full-on college possibilities, so I have decided to look into well...just buying the books :P

I know this is hardly a substitute for the full experience, but its the best option I can come up with at the moment, so does anyone know where I could buy these? I've looked online but my google-fu is pretty terrible to be honest.

I won't be surprised if this is unobtainable, given that higher education is essentially a business monopoly these days, but hope is being held out.

I can't believe the first time I looked through Greenlight they just had the sequel to one of the series I was a big fan of. Amazing.

Er...anyway, for those that don't know, the Kingdoms Under Fire series is all about mixing RTS with action-RPG and its probably the only time I've ever seen it done reasonably well. Its a fantasy game, so you get all the Orcs and elves and vampires you could want in this mix and go watch the trailer because its amazing and I'm rambling so I'll shut up and let you guys find out about this amazingness.

So I recently discovered this. Its a free online clone of the card game, and was wondering if anyone on Bay12 would be interested in playing a game. For those interested I seem to have stuck myself in the "Falcon with a box on its head" server.

So a few days ago I stumbled upon teamfourstar's Let's Play of this and it got me interested in playing again, but I would like to have someone to play the game with, so does anyone on Bay12 still play this abomination? :P

I'm playing a Sith Inquisitor that just reached level 10, meaning I can finally actually SPEAK to other people (EA is so fucking retarded) so hopefully someone has a similarly leveled Warrior?
If not, I'd be glad to go through the starting missions with you and get the full experience (the sith ones actually were pretty awesome, unlike EVERY OTHER START PLANET :P)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Incredibly Lazy Dwarves- Is this a bug?
« on: July 11, 2014, 09:27:21 am »
So before throwing this on the bug tracker I would like to make sure it is, in fact, a bug.

So I started a new fortress in the new version (0.40.02) and I've dug out a nice start of a fortress, made a stockpile and even breached the volcano, netting me magma at the cost of my least useful miner and his pick.

The problem is, only ONE dwarf is doing ANY work right now. I've been trying to get the miner slabbed so he doesn't come back and strangle my other dorfs, as well as get all the booze/food/etc. into the actual fort, but only one dorf is even attempting hauling labors, and the stonecrafter refuses to even look at the workshop where the memorial slab is waiting.

I've disabled stone/wood and gems from my stockpile while enabling everything else and 90% of our booze is just sitting out in the open. The five dwarves who refuse to work are literally just hanging out in their bedrooms doing nothing.

So, wtf is going on here? Is this normal?

DF Suggestions / Legends Mode Enhanced Filtering
« on: July 11, 2014, 07:46:56 am »
One thing that has always bugged me in Legends Mode is that you can't filter by things like race or position of historical entities (to quickly find all the gods or vampires or kings/etc.)

Not only this, but you can't even filter things by their translated names!

I'm personally finding it hard to find the legends I want to read up on in the worlds I've genned, and as DF becomes more and more complex this will start to become a problem, so is there any way to add new filtering options to the mode?

Other Games / Civ V Map Utility?
« on: June 14, 2014, 09:12:22 am »
I'm pretty sure this should go here in "Other Games" if not then please tell me and I'll move it.

Anyway, I recently got into Civilization V and was wondering if there was some kind of utility to create custom maps?

Preferably some way to plug a drawing or such in and have it overlaid by the hexes and randomized resources.

This isn't specifically for me technically, as there is a forum game I played that could greatly benefit from such a utility (you know the one)

Any help is appreciated.

Life Advice / Pennsylvania Body Farm?
« on: June 09, 2014, 01:51:48 pm »
So apparently there are places where you can have your body sent that use it to study decomposition and such.

The "main" one appears to be in Tennessee, but there is supposed to be one in Pennsylvania.

So, anyone have any idea how to reliably contact this? My mom has been trying to set something up for herself there and hasn't had any luck even determining if the Pennsylvania one exists.

Thanks in advance.

Other Games / Fantasy Grounds- Pen and Paper over Steam?
« on: June 03, 2014, 11:57:20 am »
So in my occasional steam search I found this game/application, it seems to be a way to play D&D and other pen and paper games over the interwebs, and presumably has built in rulebooks and such, along with maps, creature lists and all the assorted stuff you need to set up a game.

So has anyone here used this? Is it worth getting? Are there games going on right now that I could be a part of if I bought this?

Roll To Dodge / (Suggestion Game) First Mage of Fantasy DPRK
« on: May 11, 2014, 09:04:31 am »
Today you are five. You were walking down the street reciting the Pledge of Gratitude like all five year olds should and then the carts selling Glorious Leader merchandise exploded and the Crier of Leader's Magnificence fainted and convulsed.

Then the merchants cried "witch" and you were taken away from the dirt road and huts and brought to the Glorious Golden Palace and Glorious Leader himself walked up to you ((you wonder why he didn't glide in on his own magnificent aura like in the stories, but figure he must just be tired. Even though he never sleeps.)) and said that you are a mage and you will lead the Glorious Revolution of Glorious Leader in having an even bigger edge on all the other nations who are absolutely huddled in even crappier shacks then you were and not much more successful then GloriousLeaderland.

He calls one of his guards named Yason who he says will be your guardian and then Yason takes you to a room in the palace that he says is yours now. Also you have to practice magic and make super soldiers for Glorious Leader.

When you ask how to do this he replies with a firm "I'unno"

So that's where you're at right now.
Also you might wanna look in the mirror and set your gender and name and such.

DF Community Games & Stories / Fort of Every Age?
« on: May 09, 2014, 03:58:16 am »
So has any community/succession fort every gone through every single age in the game? As in the "Age of Myth" "Golden Age" "Twilight Age"?

Because if not I suggest we make that succession fort right here.

It will probably need to use the Masterwork mod, due to that having a building that lets you "summon" different civs/creatures/etc.

Anyone up for this?

Life Advice / Help finding a tv series
« on: April 23, 2014, 06:15:12 am »
So my mom brought up a kids show we apparently used to watch today. I only vaguely remember it, and she seems quite intent on figuring out what it was.

What we figured out was that the show featured a frog, and this frog was a detective of some sort (Mom describes him as "like Sherlock Holmes) and the show was apparently British, or as I believe based on some British literature. He appeared with several other creatures such as badgers.

I'm pretty sure that the characters name was actually "Toad"...which given this forum, is kinda funny, but as for physical features it was an older dignified frog and wore a monacle.

Anyone have any ideas what this could be?
