Life Advice / Re: The Generic Computer Advice Thread
« on: December 17, 2014, 11:11:51 pm »
So I initially couldn’t get video from my card (MSI R9 290x) only onboard, got that squared away with a bios setting(Legacy something or other). Moved computer to different area then card is recognized but shows an error in windows (Code 52 shows on onboard also). Apparently I have too many gpu cores(8 on processor and whatever many on card) for windows to manage effectively but there is a fix that is supposed to override it(6xgpu), that has borked my shit to where even the onboard video is jacked up. Can’t display 3d shit or anything complex. Any suggestions?

Didn't see this thread until the tournament was over, I got a kick out of your expert rating being a win or a couple runes. Felt it was worth posting about. query !hs caleba on ##crawl for my credentials

Lone Survivor- Didn't make a whole lot of sense after a couple of hours.
Project Zomboid - Still in pretty early stages but looks much more fun than it really is for me.
Legend of Grimrock - see Project Zomboid
FTL - Didn't find the depth for me.
Cardinal Quest/ Hack, Slash, Loot - Typical kind of roguelikes but missing the complexity of better games like Stone Soup.

As Cool Guy said, you go into the keybindings and change it to T or whatever you need. Had this happen before as well.

That thread contains screenshots of how I usually set up my fortress, I have modified things a little since I posted that but still pretty similar. Works out quite well for me and always keeps up with demand from the fortress. Just a couple of plump helmet plots to produce booze, then food relies on a chicksplosion in year one and cooking their eggs from then until the apocalypse inevitably comes.

Are you referencing a war between say goblins and kobolds or entering a world that elves or humans are already at war with your civilization?

I admit I have no experience with fire snakes so I wiki'd them. It says they only spawn around magma sites, of which I have none.

Do you tend to locate your well on the surface or in the caverns? It usually takes a while for your well to go dry so worrying about refilling may not be too big of an issue, or an opportunity to try new methods? I find turning off weather doesn't affect my games much, however turning off temperature (depending on biome) can be drastically different play.

I prefer to expand slowly as I have industries fully established before moving on to the next, as I have a tendency to expand too quickly. If I can build it the minions better keep up! Which of course leads to a failing fortress so I have a 100 pop cap to start out and 10% child cap for FPS reasons. It really becomes me battling myself and my normal tendencies with pop cap.

I rarely use compression software anymore, apparently it has come a long way from when I did frequently (back in floppy drive days). Didn't expect it to pack down to almost 10% of original size.

I'd try reloading a couple times and before unpauseing too look around.
also check for weird coverings of blood and vomit.
That's how I was able to determine it started at the foot. When I load the save no fire, double tap spacebar and the foot is burning and it spreads out from there of course.

I had a titan that shot fireballs a game year or two back but his corpse is gone from the stockpile, I have not adjusted temperature settings and am playing with a fresh download of the game.
