Life Advice / Re: Anyone know the name of this painting?

Google tells me it is called Discussing the Divine Comedy with Dante by Dai Dudu, Li Tiezi, and Zhang An.

Garbage. Science is based on skepticism, religion on faith. They're opposites.

In theory, maybe. In practise, not so much. Whenever a scientist tries to rock the boat of science, others are eager to knock him off to protect their sacred and canonical theories. If you don't follow the herd, you're not going to have the respect of your peers (or the funding for your research).

I think the big bang theory is just as concrete as a creation theory.

Science has pretty much developed into it's own religion of sorts. Whenever an alternate theory that is not in line with the mainstream pops up, a crusade of scientists and science lovers violently try to debunk it. (Sounds familiar, eh?)

Personally I'm not a strong believer in anything. I don't claim to know the secrets of the universe. Not knowing where life came from is ok for me. I'm just happy to be living on this wondrous planet.

The only point I've been trying to make is that your original statement on the matter is misleading. If you read Section 13 it's about stopping hate propaganda, as they put it. Which does leave room for interpretation, which is why there is trouble with it. I don't think some of the cases involving Section 13 are in the spirit of what the law was made for.

I'm not a supporter of Section 13, I was just bothered by your oversimplification of the matter.

I don't have a link, but there's a part about stopping "hate propoganda", which is probably what they were referring to. Calling it a law about religious criticisms is a gross oversimplification

It was probably about as accurate as saying the American right to bear arms is "the right to shoot my neighbour in the face 'cause he looked at my daughter funny"   ;)

In Canada it has already begun: under Section 13 of their Human Rights Code it is a hate crime to criticize Islam. Martin Luther is turning in his grave.

Holy paraphrasing, Batman!

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: loads of vomit

I usually dig a shaft to the entrance of my dining hall. It keeps dwarves from becoming adapted to caves. However, if a dwarf is injured and rests in bed for a while, he usually becomes cave adapted anyway, since he isn't walking through my fresh air vent. When he heals up he'll puke everytime he goes to the dining hall.

I was wondering if clothing offered any protective value?

If so would adamantine clothing offer more protection?

DF Gameplay Questions / Secondary weapon?
« on: November 04, 2007, 10:45:00 am »
How does the secondary weapon work?

Can I equip a hunter with a secondary weapon? (Mine just decided to club a wolf with her crossbow, it didn't end in her favour)

do you have traders there?

Those extra bars might belong to them. Some things take more than two bars. Other than that, I don't know.

The wiki has an article about it

Apparently cloth... thread... means the dwarf wants cloth, not thread.

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: Of Lords and Devils...

I'm not sure what would happen.

I know their demon diety is a leader, but I don't know if there is also a goblin leader.

code:
The Impure Immorality, Goblins
Worship List
 Atu, demon: fire, death, torture
Ruler List

  • Atu (b.???, Reign Began: 1), *** Original Line, Never Married
         No Children

  • This shows the demon as the leader. It would be pretty cool if the demon would come.

DF Gameplay Questions / Diplomat guards
    « on: November 02, 2007, 11:49:00 am »
Ok, I have had every diplomat that has come to my fortress go berserk. The latest was a human with two guards. Will the guards go berserk too? I have my military stationed near them.

How do I go about getting silk in this version? Is it the same as the last one?
