Some that come to mind that have potentially bad endings.

The Witcher 3

Shadowrun: Dragonfall

Transistor (sort of)

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries.

General Discussion / Re: Tree Appreciation Thread
« on: November 16, 2016, 08:45:40 am »
Hello fellow tree lovers, today I would like to share a sad story of careless vandalism committed against trees on my property.

I was out cleaning up leaves, mostly around the old the old apple trees on the property. Now these aren't spry young sprouts, these venerable trees have been around for a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are over a hundred years old. The property used to have an orchard on it but that orchard has long since returned to nature, the apple trees are now covered in variety of lichens and have increasingly been crowded out by birch and pine trees.

While their wilder comrades have been untended for many decades the apple trees by the home on the property have been lovingly looked after for many many years. They have survived windstorms, ice storms and lightning strikes. They are hardy old things that have many scars to mark the passage of time. But today I found one of them missing one of its largest fruit bearing branches.

The only tree climbing critter around here that is large enough to break off a branch that big would be a black bear. So I assume that some time in the night a bear tried climbing the tree to get what was left of this years fruit. The greedy gourmand overextended itself, breaking off a fairly large branch and a bunch of smaller ones on the way down.

It would be bad enough if it were just the apple tree but I soon discovered that bears were the least of the trees problems. While out inspecting the property I also noticed that there were signs of a vicious beaver incursion. I had seen the portly rodent sunning himself along the river's edge earlier in the year. I have not seen his home or any felled trees nearby before so I thought he was just passing through.

Turns out he was more than just a visitor, he is also a voracious little vandal. I would not begrudge a beaver his building materials if that's what he was after. But the irksome creature decided to fell three trees and just leave them there. Two of them were just small, hardly any thicker than my forearm but the third was a nice ash tree. Which is unfortunate because there aren't many ash trees on the property. Though perhaps it was a mercy, the emerald ash borer continues its tireless conquest of the continent and the tree probably would have succumbed to infestation when the beetle finally reaches this part of the country.

Hey ChairmanPoo, hope you have a happy birthday!

Could I have Expeditions: Conquistadors please?

I've been following their next upcoming game, expedition: vikings and I'd love to try the first game in the series!

Clan tech can only go in clan mechs. Clan weapon systems have their advantages and disadvantages. For example clan lasers have longer range but they are hotter and have a longer burn time.

Unfortunately when you are buying a mech they aren't separated between clan and inner sphere. But it's pretty easy to tell the difference, if you click on a mech and look at its weapon systems if they are using clan tech it is a clan mech. Clan tech will always have a C- before it.

I feel like I'm in the minority here but I do enjoy the combat system used in Pillars and older Infinity engine games...

Just thought people might like to know there is a free Centurion up for grabs if you go to https://mwomercs.com/profile/redeem and use the code NCIXMECH

In other news the patch notes are out.

https://mwomercs.com/news/2016/11/1664-patch-notes-1487-15nov2016

UAC nerfs across the board! UAC / 2s get a nerf, UAC / 20s, get a nerf! EVERYBODY GETS A NERF!

I mean okay UAC 5s and 10s are very strong.

But 2s and 20s? There's a reason nobody boats them except the occasional silly dire whale or the even sillier Hunchback IIc. The UAC 2s have a very good potential dps, and the UAC 20s have a lot of burst but the downsides make them not as good as other options. Now they have more downsides.

Oh well.

EDIT: Also, I wonder, what role do you guys think is the most helpful to double up in? I haven't played enough to be totally certain, but I'm kind of leaning towards frontline. A damage going down hurts, a flank less so, a support dying will suck but can be weathered. However, if you lose your frontline while the enemy's is still strong enough to sit on the point, it seems hard to really hold it, and once they're entrenched, it'll prove kinda difficult for the frontline to get back on the point and stay there. Also, as I talked about above, I feel like the frontlines support one another better than the other roles.

I've found that double front line can be quite useful, and I've read that at higher levels of play that they prefer double front line, usually Fernando + someone else.

I have a hard enough time in pugs even getting one of each role though, I always last pick and try to fill, but on some days it just seems like nobody wants to play front line or support. I don't know why, none of the supports are Mercy levels of boring. Although I guess Ying is pretty close. I usually find if no one picked front line or support that front line is the better hole to fill. Having someone who can lock down or contest a point seems more important than having someone who can heal.

I don't know, I don't think Androxus (the reaper looking fellow) is terribly OP. He's pretty fragile, has a relatively short effective range and his dash doesn't take him all that far. I've shot plenty of Androxuses and Drogozes out of the air with Cassie. I do think he rewards good play though, you really do have to flank or you will die terribly every time you run into an enemy.

I don't really feel like there are any characters that are terribly OP at the moment. I don't think everything is perfectly balanced either, but it's still in beta and changing fairly regularly. There are definitely characters that feel a bit weaker than their counterparts though.

My biggest issue with the game right now is that hitboxes really do seem overly generous. That and I think the replay system isn't perfect so it frequently looks like people are shooting people they don't have LOS on in the death recaps.

It's funny when I first started playing I thought most people who played the game were terrible at it, but then I found out later for like the first five levels you are only playing against bots. The game, as far as I know, never tells you this and the bots are named in such a way that it isn't immediately apparent that they are bots. :P

Plants Vs Zombies: Heroes is a digital collectible card game set in the plants vs zombies universe. It's similar to other games in the genre (such as hearthstone) but has enough differences to make it interesting. I have only played a little bit so far but so far it looks pretty polished and well done.

It looks a bit cheesy, but I'm still interested. From what I've read it's going to be a more focused experience than Pillars which will be nice. Not every RPG needs to be 100+ hours.

Thanks. Still can't seem to find it though. I have a feeling either something is wrong or I'm just completely blind

Quick question:

How do I enable or disable ironman? I haven't played in a while but I seem to remember there being a gauntlet near the play button that allowed you to do so but it  does not seem to be there anymore.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I didn't feel the UI is that bad. I mean, it is bad, but not on a Dwarf Fortress level of bad.

It's pretty ugly but it works.
