Other Games / Re: Clockwork Empires - 1.0 release October 26th
« on: October 26, 2016, 05:19:49 pm »
I bought the game a couple of weeks ago. I played until I had somewhere around 50 colonists but stopped playing because there wasn't a lot going on and it felt like I was just waiting for stuff to happen. It felt like a game that has potential and could have used more time in early access. It has been in early access for a long time though so I assume they just really wanted to push it out now and decide how long they want to continue working on it depending on how well it does... Adding events and spicing up ones that were already there was a big part of the 1.0 release though so I'm hoping that things are better now.

I just started playing the 1.0 release but I'm not very far in, maybe an hour or two so I can't really say how much they have added yet. I've already run into some bugs though. They didn't release this build to be tested in early access beforehand so I'm not really surprised. Nothing gamebreaking yet though.

If you're looking at buying this I would recommend to wait and see how much people have enjoyed the release version after they have had enough time with it, because honestly the last early access build felt a bit lacking.

Okay thanks. Maybe my cities were just planned poorly production wise.

Speaking of city planning I found this helpful infographic on reddit that goes over a lot of the bonuses when placing districts.

Does marathon game speed change tech and production in Civ or just tech? If it's just tech I might give it a go because the pacing in 6 felt a bit off. I felt like I was teching up way faster than I was producing things.

I wish the love/hate stuff happened like it did in Beyond Earth. It would pop up on your screen and not take you into diplomacy like it does in Civ 6. I also wish you could have the option to cut off communications with a country so if they're just being pests you don't have to listen to them denounce you and hate on your policies all the time.

Other Games / Re: Blood Bowl (FUMBBL, Cyanide, Tabletop)
« on: October 25, 2016, 12:20:36 pm »
I should boot up Blood Bowl 2 again, I haven't played since the Norse came out. I really like the game but it can be a bit discouraging playing against seasoned blood bowl veterans as someone who knows next to nothing about proper blood bowl tactics. I feel pretty clueless most of the time I play, my strategy generally involves murdering my way to the other side of the pitch. :P

I'd love to give table top a try but I live out in the middle of nowhere. Sadly bears don't like boardgames.  :-\

Does it use the same voice actors as other ES games? I swear there is one guy that they've been using since Morrowind who has a very distinctive voice that does a lot of their voice acting. I started playing the Elder Scrolls card game a while ago and instantly recognized his voice work on quite a few of the cards. :P

Anyway I've been convinced! It sounds like the type of mmo I would enjoy so I picked it up.

How is the leveling up experience? The last MMO I played was Black Desert and I got tired of the grinding before I could hit max level. How fun of a game is it solo? I know it's a silly question to ask about an mmo but I usually end up playing through a lot of the non dungeon content by myself when I play mmos.

Also how is the community? Is the game new player friendly?

After playing a bit more of the game I feel like the most glaring omission is that this guy isn't in the game anymore... https://youtu.be/DVz_eDUTjAI?t=87

Is nostalgia the only reason one would choose to play an older Civilization than Civilization 6? Lets find out!:

Number of Technologies in different Civilization games:

Civ 4: 92
Civ 5: 81
Civ 6: 68

Civ 4 + C2C: 734 (over x10 the number in Civ 6). This is relevant because with the gimped modding framework of Civilization 6 you will never see a mod this good.

Heck you can't even do basic things in Civilization 6 that you could do in Civilization 4 such as rename cities. Sequels are supposed build upon a solid foundation, not shrink it.

Research in Civ 6 is a bit different this time around. The civics tree is pretty much a second research tree, some units and buildings (among other things) are unlocked there instead of through technological research. So saying Civ 6 only has 68 technologies is a bit misleading.

I've never played Caveman to Cosmos but 734 technologies sounds rather excessive. More does not necessarily mean better... It sounds like a C2C game would take forever. I can understand how that would be appealing to some but I much prefer a shorter more focused game. Civ 6 doesn't exactly hit the sweet spot for me, I'd like a bit more going on tech wise but it isn't terribly far off.

As far as features go Civilization 6 feels a lot more feature complete than Civilization 5 did at release. Most features that were in 5 were included or altered in 6. I would say they did a rather good job of building on the foundations of Civ this time around... Not renaming cities sucks, but it's not really the kind of feature that makes or breaks a game... Besides they've already said they're going to be patching it in.

I can't figure out how to rename cities. I'm beginning to suspect this feature isn't in the game anymore, in which case... what were they thinking

Yeah that feature didn't launch with the game but I've read that it will be reimplemented at some point. Seems like a weird thing to not have on launch though.

I really do like the changes and features but the fact that the AI is the main problem is a bit worrisome since I don't recall many Civ games getting major AI overhauls.

"They should have put more effort into introducing additional new features."

That's not criticism?

You edited that into your post later... I'm pretty sure most of the people who replied to you posted before you edited that bit in.

Also I was under the impression that this was the internet and that I was free to post what I liked. But maybe I took a wrong turn somewhere. Got lost, you know? Be straight with me... Am I on the internet or in e-North Korea right now?

You can post what you like within the rules of the forum but if you post nothing of value people aren't obliged to like or agree with what you say.

I only played on Prince difficulty but I'd agree the AI is pretty dumb. It doesn't know how to conduct a war properly. One war in particular was pretty bad. I only had 3 units in my whole empire and they were across the ocean on another continent when Arabia declared war on me. They completely surrounded my city with mechanized infantry. They did nothing. They did not attack and they did not move. This gave me time to buy two battleships to sit off the coast and bombard them with. They still sat around my city doing nothing. Eventually after blowing enough of their units up they offered me peace.

It might have just been the difficulty settings but I didn't have a problem getting even trades. I could sometimes get trades that were a much better deal for me than for the AI. The system was wonky though. Sometimes I would offer a trade deal and they would not accept, but I would mess around with it and somehow get a deal that was even less in their interest than my initial offer.

I can't answer your question specifically but you can change the graphics options so that the game starts out on the strategic mapmode (which is 2d, not 3d and has no animations) and you can also turn off leader animations. So imagine that helps a lot with performance on lower end systems.

Well... not quite. PS4/Vita are two separate consoles. They run different game copies, you just transfer save data from one to the other, if anything that is the gimmick.
http://www.ign.com/wikis/playstation-4/How_to_Use_PS4_Remote_Play
Vita absolutely can play PS4 games. Of course, it's just streaming the video from the PS4 which actually does the computing, meaning that it is limited by wifi tethers, which may be a substantial difference between Vita and Switch(we don't yet have details on how specifically the Switch functions in portable form), but still, playing full console games outside the home is nothing new.

You could play Sega Genesis games on the Sega Nomad way back when... Doesn't mean there isn't room for innovation such as having one console that does it all.

I'm not sure what you mean by we don't know how the switch functions in portable form. The tablet itself has all the processing power, the other part is just a dock to charge it and connect with your television.
