DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Caravan Question
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:39:04 pm »
Wagons can't cross traps, so they'll already bypass that hallway, but otherwise great.

That first drawbridge is there so that invaders and siegers can't make a beeline past my traps. I keep it up, and when merchants come, I lower it to let them in.

First fort and biggest fail I ever made.

Basically I spent the whole first year making gigantic rooms for workshops, making a few bedrooms, and then accidentally abandoning it.

What does this look like without a graphics pack? I have no idea what I'm looking at.

This.

I cannot decode your fancy shmancy wizard world's landscape.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Caravan Question
« on: September 09, 2012, 09:17:40 pm »
So, I have this idea for Wagon-Accessible indoor depot, and I'd like to have some feedback. (Will it work, basically.)

Spoiler (click to show/hide)
- Forgive me. I got a little creative with that pixelated paintbrush.

Anyway, there are two drawbridges. One that allows them to skip the trap hallways, and one that allows them to get into the fortress. The first is always up (Save for when they come to town with their wagons) and the later is always lowered. (Save for when they come to town with their pointy sticks and shiny clothes.) - I don't know if you can see either below the yellow brick road, though.

Both drawbridges are hooked up to different levers in some statue garden somewhere.

They follow the yellow brick road past these, and turn into the Trade Depot room. (Yes, that was an attempt to make a Trade Depot. I promise.)

Thoughts?

Just started putting the levels of my fortress up, and unexpectedly, I found the caverns. At level five.

- A lot of caps lock rage and the like.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Why does everyone use the default graphics?

I like the classic graphics because:
1) I like them. Once you get used to them, they're incredibly simple and easy to read.
2) My computer would have a heart attack if ever I were to use anything else.

Genning a new world, trying to find one where I can capture, train, and breed dragons. I think I've found a likely place... just hope the dragons will come to me. There is a male on site (or nearby) and several females elsewhere in the world.

Having a hell of a time trying to find the lair of one of the existing ones, and I hope the rest invade at some point.

One can only hope...

Did you turn on Make Caves Visible? If you're lucky you could find a dragon in one.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Are snachers trap avoid?
« on: September 09, 2012, 06:18:12 pm »
I find that sometimes my traps catch snatchers, sometimes they don't. I use simple checkerboard stonefall and cage traps.
On one of my worlds, I've captured two snatchers, but I've had many more than that try to come in or out.

Just spent about 10 minutes wondering why it wouldn't allow me to 'use the world as it currently exists' in world creation before realizing my caps lock was on.

Rob your kinsmen blind. It's for their own good.

Too bad the liason didn't make it. You could have requested gear.

Dwarven merchants arrived! They fought their way through a weaker portion of the horde and made it into the tunnel there is now nothing between them and the depot! Glory to dwarf kind!

Sadly, the outpost liaison didn't make it...

100 Gold Nuggets says they don't make it back out alive.

legends say that powerful wizards that live in their own worlds use magic to change their world as they please. But sometimes their magic gets corrupted and beasts that are without soul start to walk the plains. If you are a wizard, you must travel to a new world or stay and fight the corrupted magic!

So the question remains:
