If you sealed off several pump operators completely along the water, and made them pump screw pumps continuously, could you super flood the world?

Or, something similair with water wheels? Water source blocks are an infinite water source, right?

I was just in Adventure mode, cause I decided to actually learn how to play. Anyway, I killed a dog or thirty, and I didn't know the people of the town would take it so personally. So I go to the meat-market section of the town, thinking nothing of it, and about 120 enemies start attacking me with whatever's in their hands. I've got Elves, Dwarves, Humans, Dogs, Various other domestic animals, all beating the shit out of me at once with various meat and fish products. I died in like two seconds.

I keep wanting to play Adventure Mode but I get caught up in all the new menus and I don't know where to start. I usually get sidetracked, bored, and delete the world. :/

So basically you went looking for fun, but instead built a booming fortress to outshine many previous well thought out fortresses?

/chuckle. Dwarf Fortress.

Edit: I just realized this was Necromancy and now I feel stupid. Blah.

Maybe it has something to do with the seven starting dwarves becoming historical figures.

Oh yeah, I totally forgot to post this one here when it happened.

Anyway, a novice or so leatherworker went into a fey mood, and took over a leatherworks. She refused to collect anything despite me having several of each type of item she was asking for. So she's in the leatherworks for like 6 months, and she finally snaps and goes berserk. Naturally, I send in the military because she has a bit of military training and could prove dangerous. So my five-squad comes in, and takes her out. I look for who got the kill, and it's her husband. He killed his own wife, but was still ecstatic. He'd taken joy in slaughter (-ing his own wife.), and lost a spouse due to tragedy lately (because again, he fucking killed her.) but I suppose the legendary food and drink, and the legendary dining-room counterbalanced it.

Later, his baby (only child, a son.) died of bleeding out (The mother had been attacking it) and he's dropped to content or so, but not for long.

I'm having this exact problem. A human merchant glitched into the side of my moat trying to drive a wagon through it, and now I have 5 animals in my stockpile I can't do anything with.

I do a mix of both. My current fortress is in the mountainside, and it's pretty secure. Drawbridge-across-deathpit-entrance, with fortifications on the sides of the entrance for marksdwarves, and a moat with drawbridges shaped to maximize marksdwarf lethality. (lethalism? I dunno.... Derp.)

My last two fortresses before that have been 5x5 pit entrances, with a drawbridge gate kept down, inside is another drawbridge kept upwards, that comes down for wagon caravans, and the hallway went quite a ways to each side, with checkerboard stonefall and cage traps, past yet another drawbridge kept down, and after that I had a few necessary rooms on the first z-level, with a stairwell leading down for the other floors. (Run on sentence FTW!) Everything got its own floor, kinda like my current fortress.

He probably prefers wrestling. Assign him to a specific weapon/weapon type if you'd prefer him to weapon spec.

Oh hey, another useless clothing item I don't need! (This time a Reindeer leather tunic.)

Still haven't been attacked yet, and I'm early third year with a fortress worth half a million dwarfbucks.

Edit: Spoke too soon. Just got a goblin siege right as an elven caravan was making into my fort. Bringing in my hunters and stationing my squads. This should be fun.
