DF General Discussion / Some donation suggestions

That's my first post here so hello to everyone. I am currently considering giving a donation for Dwarf Fortress, and I wanted to share some suggestions that came to me.
The Dev section of the website shows many components; why not associate them with promises of donation, so that the ones with the biggest amount would be developped first ? So gamers could support Bay12, and in the same time participate in the dev of the game. The counter part would be I guess that Toady would somehow loose a part of independance.
Another question : how much would it cost to get the source code released ? I mean, even if it's thousands (or millions...) of dollars, why not set a pool where people can donate, and when the amount is reached : bingo ! Welcome to the GNU world !
Finally, my last question. If Toady had unlimited amount of cash, would he develop Dwarf Fortress in a different way ?
