Hrmm, perhaps it goes without saying, but the militiamen should continue training. Perhaps we should instruct Alan to help Tor in that endeavor.
It might prove prudent to have a man or two be on watch as much as possible. To help raise alarms in case of trouble or break up brawls and such if need be.

The truth here can only help our case, if they know the elves fear us, then they know better not to mess with us, and our reputation grows.

Well, i suppose we should ease up on the combat training for the moment. Perhaps we should hole up and continue to practice reading.
We still have that shield right? Might want to start to practice blocking with it once we recover.
We should still oversee harvest however, i'm assuming that it's going to begin in September. Let everyone know that once harvest is done there shall be a tournament, allow others to suggest additional competitions if they so desire.

Now that we have more than simple farmers on our land, how are we going to tax those whose trade is not farming? Are we going to use flat taxes for them or are we simply sampling an unspecified amount of their labor?

A fair point, well, perhaps encourage him to ask around and see if anyone would prefer mining to their current work, as well as begin drawing up plans.

We had already planned on seeding allies among the humans, this is a good time to begin to earn a reputation of some benevolence (It may open up the oppurtunity for the trade of slaves for a food/fear source in the future as well.). In the very least we should explain to them that they won't find elves here, and give them a little advice on how to better track their prey. I would also be in support of using them to help us hit the elven settlement.

I can agree with all but mining, it's already been explained that would take up pretty much all of our currently available manpower, which we need for farming, we need to foster growth and encourage more people to settle here before that.

Perhaps we don't want to make yet another enemy just yet. Fling their weapons into the future if possible, but either way explain that we don't want to earn the ire of their people, and that their people don't want to earn our ire either.

Continue training and overseeing harvest.
Ask Marge Kannity if there is any way we could cobble together a low quality brewery. Or if her skills could be translated to fermenting wine. Explain that there is a great deal that needs accomplishing but that we still want to ensure she will have a livelihood when all is said and done. Ask her when she expects the baby and if there is anything she needs from us.

Not really a compelling argument. By the logic of "because i think he's cooler." Batman would beat superman almost 100% of the time.

I was thinking that we could institute some competitions around harvest time or some such. Perhaps some that could be used to help toughen up the populace and talent scout decent fighters. It could be a "common mans tourney". There could be a a fistfighting competition, an archery competition and a stave-fighting competition, perhaps each with a modest reward of grain and a place at our table during the feasting. We might also arrange a dance, though that would require in the least some crude instruments, if not a bard or three. Though come to think of it a bard could definitely help bring in business for the tavern.
