Make it look... vikingly.
Why?
Because if it stands out, we may start a trend of sorts, which could get us some prestige.
Also, vikings were pretty awesome.

After much deliberation you decide to settle the plains, despite the fact that it will provide poorer farming land than the flood plains, you just don't want to drown when the river floods.
An initial survey of the lands reveals that the vegetation is mostly composed of a tough grass, known to be nutritious, if a little tasteless.  Most of the other vegetation is made of scattered copses of trees of an unknown variety.  Your initial survery also reveals a moderate number of moderate sized quadropods (think bison), and a somewhat smaller number of packs of meidum sized territorial predators.  During your survey three of your workers are ambushed, and all are killed by them, and were unable to kill any of the predators.

A short survey of the badlands reveals that there is very little vegetation, and the ground is mostly a sun baked clay, with large stone mesas, some of which are riddled with caves, and numerous fissures.  You immediately pull out your workers when you start seeing some really scary shit living in there.  You'll have to start posting patrols of warriors in order to ensure that nothing follows you out of there.

Now, do you just need to decide to start in one of the copses of trees, the open plains, or are you crazy/stupid enough to start for the badlands, hoping to find an unclaimed cave?
---Require actions---
-Decide where in the plains to start
-Decide what to do about the predators
-Decide what types of bug you want to lay
-(optional) You still don't have a name
 -Something else?

Alright, so For reference, we have:

1)strengthen our defenses by increasing patrols and use the new volunteers by splitting them half archers half melee. Also, get started on actual iron weapons(including copper/iron spearheads and arrowheads) and train our new recruits on those. As well, have our rangers try to track that horseman, and have our steward see where the horses came from. Also, have a secure stockade/small jail built out of wood so that we can secure our prisoner/witness where nobody can get to him and silence him

1a)As an aside, I personally vote on training our melee troops as skirmishers using handaxes and spears for hit-and-fade tactics(we don't really have enough militia troops for much in the way of frontal attacks)

2)Assign the most reliable of our troops as our personal guard(make it an official title even!) and assign them to be our bodyguards 24/7

3)Get an appropriate gift to the duke made, something like a silver brooch or bracelet or something of that nature

4)Have conference with our friendly lords when they get here(a given really). Explain what happened and our suspicions, though stress that what evidence we have, while certainly points in the count's direction, isn't solid proof he's behind the assassination attempt

5)Get started stockpiling brick, stone, and wood to prepare for building our manor

Did I miss anything?
I don't think so.  And +1 to melee troops, since archers aren't all that good for patrol within a city, seeing as how we could hit our citizens.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, They are burrowers, and are quite good at it.  They can only go as low as the water table, though, and at this stage of their technological development don't really have very good surface structures.

You are a newly hatched queen of a species of intelligent insectoid creatures.  Your liege-lady has sent you off to distant unsettled lands to lay claim to the land and resources there, and to defend it against incursion by the forces of other tribes of queens.  You were sent with 20 workers, 5 warriors, and 1 drone (who is under the thrall of your liege lady), as well as some basic impliments for farming and clearing land, and your warriors are armed with spears and clubs.  In addition to these provisions you have 3 months of food.

When you arrive at the area you are to settle you are presented with three possibilities for settlement.  The first has a river running through a flood plains, with sparse trees and some rocky outcroppings.  The second is densely forested, with a small bog.  The third is a plains, with few trees and a rocky badlands off to the north.

---Actions needed---
  -Decide location of settlement.
  -(Optional) Give yourself a name.

So this is my first forum game, feel free to criticize it, provide me with some pointers, and general suggestions.  Especially that last one, since the game will not advance without suggestions as to what's to happen.  Expect dice to be rolled.

I drink both on a regular basis, but I prefer straight tea to straight coffee.

Now, what kind of tea? I like green and mint teas.
As far as tea goes it would have to be either lemon grass tea or ginger tea.  Both are to die for.

I prefer coffee, I must say.

See if we can't increase the size of our militia, and increase patrols.  Expedite the acquiring of quality arms and armour for all of them.
