I feel like it might be more of a "this is what will happen when you people do grindy-things, this is what has happened when you people do grindy-things, there is no escaping this reality so stop wasting everyone's time and..."

GET ON WITH IT!

Best you can do is smelt it into weapons and armor, draft FUCKING EVERYBODY, manually assign them the candy, activate everyone, and then abandon. They should come to your fort with the stuff still equipped.

I think.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Zombie megabeasts

I've run into a zombie hydra chilling out in a lair that I thought was abandoned in adventure mode.

It was Fun. It ripped apart one of my legs before I killed it, so I butchered it and went to sleep to heal... forgetting that skin comes back and I couldn't tan it. I then got chased all the way across the Blizzards of Ooze by the skin of the zombie hydra until I eventually decapitated all 7 heads, took them across the edge of the reanimation line, and dumped them in a shop so that they would never come back.

If you're unable to maintain the OP, we could hand it off to someone else and start a new thread. Good excuse for integrating bugfixes throughout the various turns and making sure everything fits.

Also I'll rock the play turn if Sackhead can't do it. Point me to the latest hellscape and I'll start this madness.

Something I realized recently, in between Tattling Oric and Spira, and scanning with the Eye.

Anyone else find it weird that Oric's Tattle Log displayed HP and SP, while Spira didn't? Combined with the fact that we can get absolutely zero useful information out of Spira (Even less than normal--it didn't even tell us our clearance wasn't high enough, we just got static that may or may not have encoded information in it), I'm wondering if Oric is not, in fact, the Final Boss. It might be Spira or whoever's in charge of these Angels.

Leans even more towards eventually allying with Oric.

I'm also kind of puzzled why Oric wouldn't even divulge about the horrible monster. He has a +10 to Awesome. If the anti-magic field is up just to deal with The Horrible Beast From The Pit, and Oric can create such a field at will, why doesn't he just purge The Horrible Beast From The Pit himself and then turn off the field? I can see only a few likely scenarios. One, he can't kill the thing himself (for whatever reason), which means that having outside help is a good idea. Made slightly more possible given that I'm not entirely convinced Oric is really as final a boss as we give him credit. (Still nothing I want anything to do with, but if he's not the single strongest entity in the Warrens then it makes sense.) Two, he might just be flat-out lying to us about the creature and/or the field--in which case, why would we trust him to give us accurate information in exchange for gold? Especially if he can just smite us and take our money.

South it is, I don't entirely trust that Oric will even tell us what we want to know if we pay him, but we're not going to get anything useful down here one way or the other.

Also I feel it necessary to punch in the face, whoever suggested Windirectioning across the pit for the shovel (which we now know is a key). We can't do that because of the GOD DAMN -10 TO MAGIC ON THIS FLOOR. Which should be our first priority in alleviating. According to Oric (who we may or may not be able to trust as far as we can throw him), he put the field up himself (implying he can take it down) and that he did so because of a ridiculously powerful magic-using creature on this floor (who may or may not be Cain, and irregardless we should look into slaying/recruiting/neutralizing said creature as a bargaining chip to get Oric to give us our magics back). If we aren't going to be able to turn magic back on, the next best thing is to find a passage off this DL (in either direction) and get the fuck out of here so that we can use our SP. We can't even BLOODSHAPE down here. No wonder the stupid hat was just lying around.

First reaction after returning from the doctors office:

HOLY FUCKING SHIT IT'S ORIC

Starting to get kind of a Xykon vibe from this guy. In the sense that Xykon could have smote everyone in the OOTS in like, two panels, but didn't, just because it would be boring for him. He even gives Roy the opportunity to leave, call their second fight a "draw", go level grind, and come back later for a real final showdown.

We may be able to use this to our advantage, but we should still be careful. If we cheese Oric off too much, there's really not much stopping him (as far as we know) from pulling the plug on the whole cycle and starting over, and we won't have the advantage of plot information. And/or we game over instantly.

HOWEVER. We now know why the anti-magic field is up. We should seriously ask Oric what is up with this dangerous creature, where it could be found, and what sort of boon he might grant us if it were to be slain. Because as I mentioned before, I want this damn anti-magic zone to be GONE.

I wonder whether we can stuff Oric into our inventory. How many inventory slots do we need in order to kidnap people?

Totally sigging this, btw

DF Gameplay Questions / Re: dwarves don't manage their clothing well

I'm a little confused how the replace clothing setting works. Is it global across all militia squads? Cause right now it seems that way. Also do you have to assign an explicit uniform or can you say "no uniform" and assign them specific pieces of armor?

Oh god. You didn't specify this place was evil. Rain with a BLINDING syndrome?

Dear god. You truly have created the perfect embark.

234
Well fucking fuck fucks.

MINUS FUCKING TEN TO MAGIC ROLLS?

That takes ALL the wind out my sails for making Ciro a super-mage. Suddenly behind bloodshaping weapons.... though it's clearly not going to work until we can either change floors or somehow turn off this blasted anti-magic field.

There should be some way to turn it off though. I recall seeing Cain do some magical shenanigans, and while he might just be immune to it, it's certainly a possibility.

Also this place seems to be the obligatory "booby traps everywhere" dungeon. We should see if we can get perception bonuses somehow.

I say we leave the money where it is and keep going South for now. If we can't get the money, presumably other things can't get it either.

Nah guys, we got this.

Just give her loads of advice, and preface it by saying "These are things we have done. Do NOT do them."

I'm in the desert and haven't dug for magma yet, so yeah, bone/leather armor is necessary.

I might make a whipsquad for teh lulz though.

People suggesting we sacrifice our MSP on weapons: may I remind everyone that in addition to Warskill (and Grass Knot if we ever get that back), the Windirection Spellbook had two other spells in it, one for 5 and one for 10 (and while I forget the 10sp one, the 5sp was Aeroblast and is probably a reasonably powerful damage spell), as well as the Ice blast spell thingy. We DO have options for it.

EDIT: Chilling Storm (10SP) sounds like it would hurt a LOT. Also sounds like an AOE spell. Sounds like something I'd like to have the option of casting if the shit ever hits the fan.

I dunno if it's worth expending soul charge on tactical diplomacy for literally everything, even if it has the potential to be GLORIOUS.

Now, if we run into something that looks incredibly useful and/or possesses unholy strength, go for it, but otherwise we can just break out the Ring of Sexiness and just roll the dice.

Now that we have more MSP, though, we should consider acquiring moar things. Also, if we ever get into a position to grind for money.... DL3 is the Dark level, and we should REALLY consider getting something Light or Holy. These kinds of things were purchasable at the Market, albeit for ludicrous prices.

Of course, this requires getting our hands on a checkpoint. I hereby suppose that finding a checkpoint is #1 priority.

Don't we need like, DL8+ clearance to scan... y'know, anybody with remote importance?

Also I remember Proxxy freaking the FUCK out when Cherish came by with both Soul Stars. Said something along the lines of

I don't know if we ever definitively nailed down just what exposition Proxxy was withholding from us, but, we know at least one more thing now than when we first saw that dialogue. Before, it was implied that Proxxy knew exactly what happened when you have active Soul Stars. Now we know that she has merely been TOLD that handling Soul Stars that aren't yours is bad bad bad bad bad, but she doesn't know why. Probably because Oric doesn't trust her enough. But more likely, I think.... is that there's a risk of them using their Soul Charge prematurely, since we're pretty sure Oric is farming them for soul charge. Alternatively, he's afraid of them getting their hands on the one that grants Oversoul, since that's supposed to be his thing.

Also, FUCK YEAH +5 MSP. Time to get spellbook for Ciro? Time to get spellbook for Ciro. She has largest inventory thanks to that bag and the extra inventory slots we bought for her, and with that extra MSP, we could really turn her into a useful mage. Warskill is now no longer too expensive to bother using.

I need to start a proper breeding program (or buy out a zillion leather bins from the next caravan), but my plan is bone greaves, leather armor and boots for everyone. Nobody gets to wear clothing. I've tried running a clothing ring, and the dwarves are just way too anal about holding on to everything. And then they'll leave their old clothing all over the floor and nobody will touch it or dump it or trade it. :(
