I guess so, and I'm positive that no one has any other charges since I literally just started out my squad.  Kidnapping is a pretty serious crime IRL I know, but attacking 6 unarmed guys with tanks, and the national guard?
If SWAT didn't raid you first, I'd call it a glitch too.  I thought the Guard only came out if you beat a SWAT raid.

Masks indeed help interrogation; IIRC the Satan & Reagan masks are better than most.  DS uniforms are generally the best option if you're in Nightmare.

(There are a few additional masks that only come out in the Random, but that's XML-diving as I've never bought any.)

Yeah.  That's the big reason my Liberals only fight those that attack first (sieges/CCS).  Rampant violence only encourages more of it.

Problem is that (unless Fox added it) there actually is no "attempted" or other inchoate-offense modifier in LCS.  Failed safecracks, Supercomputer hacks, etc attach the full charge, and Kidnapping is generally a pretty significant one IRL (at least once the report goes out).

So, Kidnapping has a fairly high amount of Heat attached.

As for lawyering: Law schools are full of students who were the best in their undergrad degree programs, who did well on their LSATs, and who want to make shitloads of money.  1L year is a credit overload where (if you're lucky) you might get a midterm exam.  More likely, you get the final and that goes directly to your transcript.

I don't know what DigiPen is like, but unless they're like commercial studios in the whole "crunch time" thing, I'll respectfully suggest that you might reconsider your assessment of law school, Fox.  We like you the way you are and I'd rather you not end up in a vulpine-eat-hominid world.

Curses / Re: National LCS Revisited

Obvious-check: My 4.6.7 LCS is based in Brooklyn, NY, so "Brooklyn & Queens" trumps that.  It'll probably be worth starting a new thread to sort out city/suburb distinctions once the multi-city groundwork is functioning.

(Detroit, MI would certainly have Auto Plants, but depending on the times most might be Abandoned...)

Found another little oddity. If you get caught by the police selling brownies, the message 'As you exit the site you notice you are being followed by conservative swine!' appears before the chase scene, as if you were leaving a raid.
I recall seeing this in 4.6.7 too, come to think of it.  Didn't seem terribly important at the time, sorry.

Here I was afraid we'd have something like this turn up: http://www.environmentalgraffiti.com/featured/on-trail-urban-fox/19272?image=1

(Or, marginally less pessimistically, this: http://www.thedrurys.com/index.php/news-channels/2012-news-stories/141-fantastic-mr-fox-scales-new-heights-in-a-garden-to-stalk-his-prey ...though I imagine Pacifist Fox wouldn't be killing others for food.)

Well, police station has a randomly located lockup (and you can get it moved if you force it into Closed Down), so that can be easy or difficult depending on the randomization.

I put the Courthouse lockup in a fairly tough location (plenty of locked doors, far from the starting grid, quickest way out is through an alarmed door) but theoretically that's the least dangerous in terms of opposition.

Prison lockups share the random nature of the PD but also the sentence-based leveling.  Important thing about the Prison is that Liberals there have their records cleared: springing them leaves "only" an Escaping Prison charge.

No, it isn't.  You can find his real name & photos of the impressive hair online without too much trouble.

Now can we for fae's sake quit invading Fox's privacy like some sort of intelligence community?

That reminds me of something someone else suggested a little while ago. Skill trickle down. Where getting a skill-up in one weapons skill helps other skills a little, I think it go like this.

Heavy Weapons: Rifle.
Rifle: SMG. Shotgun.
SMG: Pistol.
Pistol: SMG.

I think that for every on skill-up, they should get like 0.50 points to the weapons skill that would be effected by the skill.
Cataclysm has generic Firearms & Melee skills that support this concept: using the relevant attack boosts both the specific (Pistol/Unarmed, for instance) and the general skill; however, the general skill isn't as effective as the specific.

Direct effects seem fairly powerful by comparison, and I'm thinking that some of them don't necessarily fit as well.  Shotgun/Rifle cross-pollinating might work; SMG and Pistol are distinctly different with the basic guns (the MP5 has a stock, whether fixed or retractable; handguns don't, and the .44/.38 are revolvers anyway so the recoil force should be substantially different).

Perhaps have cross-pollination cap at 2 or somesuch, similar to the proposed firing range?

Big thanks to KA101 and Shade, plus two others that didn't specify if they wanted to be named -- anyone who I've listed anonymously, let me know if you'd like to claim your donation.

KA101 wrote asking about data files for moddable NPC loadouts (so you can give them custom gear you've modded in) and the possibility of custom site specials (moddable bank vault, CEO safe, stuff like that), and mentioned gang politics per MetalSlimeHunt's suggestions as a fallback suggestion.

Moddable NPCs is possible, but a little tricky; moddable site specials would be a nightmare, so I have to rule it out. Site specials are complicated because they can do pretty much anything; you really need the full power of the game's code to express them. However, the game is open source, so you're always welcome to really get your hands dirty and edit the code for them -- Deon's mod required significant code edits, for example.

this would be so great
Technically, I think it was Little's thread that MetalSlimeHunt linked:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=31930.msg452426#msg452426
No matter.  The gangs seem like they would keep the player busy once public opinion is Elite Liberal and the Death Squad and CCS were dealt with.

I'm thinking about messing around with the site specials & NPCs myself.  Seems like all it really needs is a one-off critter "Corporate Officer" who has seduction/hostage resistance, some rejigging of sitespecials.cpp, and ideally a multifloor Corporate HQ, but map-modding works already.

"You want political change?  What kind of robbers are you?!"
"Who ever said we were robbers?"

Related question: do "successful", in that no alarm is raised at the end of the combat round, sneak-attack kills attach Murder/Armed Assault charges?

If they do, we/I should probably update the wiki to reflect that.

Re: maps
Uh...I was hoping for a bit more discussion first.  The Courthouse map turned out to increase difficulty (at least if you mind a B&E charge) and I'm not sure changing the DEB&G bouncers was necessary.  Any reports on the two-Jury effects?

(The Nuke Plant work was pretty minor, and the CCS facilities were basically random rooms with a security checkpoint.)

« on: April 25, 2013, 04:47:40 pm »
Uh, the color/year kinda help if you have more than one Van, Bug, Sportscar, SUV, etc.  It's important to know who's going in which car so you don't doublebook the motor pool.  (Only one squad can take a car, per day, no matter how many people are involved.)

The DS is one of the real challenges to Nightmare Mode.  Mutant availability is one of the perks.  Prolonging both might be a fair trade, but I'm not sure I'd go for it.

Maybe having critters whose age puts them as growing up during C+ Labor Laws (therefore, they may have been Child Workers) have lower Intelligence and higher Wisdom could be a way to show lasting effects of C+ society?

I can go through then with a squad of six people wielding M4's and have them not go off. And its weird when a janitor at the court house waves you through one, you'd think only sleeper cops would be able to do that.

I will fix both of these.

Didn't know there were Police/DS employed specifically at the Court House.  As for the Janitor, maybe not so much that they can wave the squad through as it is their Janitorial ability to go anywhere in the building, including the security office, and Liberally whip up the IDs the squad flashes?
