Man-portable heavy bolters are canon.

Okay, after checking out the Necromunda rulebook (which is free, sweet!), I found this under Heavy Bolters:

Quote
...most gangs have one or two fighters who carry heavy weapons. These individuals are known as 'heavies' on account of the weapons they carry and also because they tend to be big, muscular fighters able to bear the weight of their weapon, ammunition and spares.

All heavy weapons described below are weighty, cumbersome affairs which take quite a bit of physical strength and energy to carry and use... etc, etc

Heavy Bolters:
...They are extremely bulky and are often known as the 'back breaker' by those who carry them...

So... basically, it does sound like they can be wielded by humans, but only exceptionally strong humans. In IG terms, I guess what this would mean is that I could make them usable by IG, but they would of course require two hands, and their weight would be some ridiculous number like 40,000, so any IG wielding a bolter would basically be stationary during combat.

Also, don't think I'm trying to argue for the sake of arguing. I appreciate your input on the mod, I am trying to make it as canon as possible. It's difficult to piece together stuff like this from all the disparate rulebooks, so it helps when someone who knows more about a certain area steps in.

Also, speaking of feedback, it would be really helpful if anyone playing this could give me info on Chaos sieges. What types of troops did they send, how early, were they too hard, too easy, etc.

ferrocrete? Wasn't it rockcrete?

Ferrocrete is a reinforced version of rockcrete... they're actually both in the mod :p

DF Modding / Re: Restricting materials based on civ?

What you can do is create an weapon item that isn't actually used in combat, but is required for all civ-specific reactions. Say you wanted a reaction to create a "bar" of blubber material. You'd specify a weapon, say ITEM_WEAPON_DNA_SEQUENCER. Then your reaction would look like this:

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

This would take a DNA sequencer and a glob of fat as input, and output a blubber "bar" and a DNA sequencer. Then, in entity_default.txt, add the line [WEAPON:ITEM_WEAPON_DNA_SEQUENCER] to the biological race. That way, the biological race will have access to reactions requiring a sequencer, and the other races won't.

Hope I explained that well enough.

To everyone who was asking if characters get more than one vote, the answer is no. Each person gets one vote, and the two with the highest votes will be on the council. This is probably a bad system, but I wasn't expecting two council seats in the first election, so I didn't have time to think of something else. Once the council members are in, they can decide on a new voting system for the next election.

Could I get the camp's animal roster and Frances' relationships, pretty please?

List of animals in the camp:
3 stray dogs, one of whom is named George
Cat owned by Gaweir
Bull owned by Gaweir
Cat owned by Expendable Earl
Donkey owned by Expendable Earl
Two stray muskoxen (breeding pair)
Three stray muskoxen calves (future food supply)
Two mules owned by Burger
Kitten owned by unnamed refugee
Donkey foal owned by Frances
Mule owned by Frances
Horse foal owned by unnamed refugee

Frances has a passing acquaintance with most of the camp members, but no friends or lovers.

Here is Octavio's profile:

I'll write an introduction for him as soon as I get some free time.

Judging by the picture in this article of the Catechan guardsmen, Heavy Bolters are definitely not wieldable single-handed by Guardsmen. I'm not familiar with Dark Heresy, so I'm gonna base it off the 40k tabletop game. The usability of heavy bolters is determined by their MINIMUM_SIZE value, so if you wanna change that it should make them usable by smaller races.

Yeah, heavy bolters and stuff have to be manned by two-person teams, and since that isn't in the DF engine yet, they basically can't use them. As far as I know, the Nist Akath thing used a memory editor, which is beyond the scope of this mod. The next version of DF will have a caste system that should allow stuff like servitors.

Anyways, I'm working on getting the next version out. It will make Chaos a playable race and introduce Eldar as a new hostile civ.

Orks are coming! I'm still trying to figure out how Space Marines should work in Fortress Mode, since they don't really seem like the types to mine their own metals or grow their own food. They'd let the servitors do that, and Servitor Fortress wouldn't be quite as fun.

That seems kind of cruel to put the Imperial Guard against the forces of Chaos, doesn't it?

Yes. Yes, it does.

Okay, this is something I've been working on the past few days. It's a project still in its infancy, so don't expect too much.

The first release has two races: Imperial Guard and Chaos. IG are playable in fortress mode, both are playable in Adventure mode.

Also, the election has started. Voting will run until Tuesday, to give everyone enough time to vote.

Events of October 5th, 2019
Frances was sitting in the dining hall, picking at her mashed potatoes. All they'd had to eat for the past year was potoatoes, potatoes, potatoes. It was enough to drive her insane. Some of the other survivors lived off a diet of goat meat and whatever else they could get their hands on. She had even seen Pathos furtively sneaking off to the butchery with a cat tucked under his arm. She shuddered. Disgusting. She could never harm a child of Gaia like that. No, she would suffer for the creatures of the Earth Mother. Potatoes were the gift given to her, and she would eat them. Just... not right now. Maybe later. She got up and brushed her plate off into the garbage chute.

Hey, sorry about the delay in posting your character, Blargityblarg. For some reason, I thought I had already posted her profile, but I guess I got her confused with Francis the biker.

Francis caught a thief trying to sneak into the camp today. He bloodied him up a little, but the thief managed to escape. It's troubling because it means there's likely raider activity in the area, and they probably know where we are now. We'll soon have more than just Infected to worry about.

July 6th, 2019
It's been an unusually quiet year so far. There's barely been any signs of Infected for a while. The few we have seen were in a highly advanced state of decay. Could it be that the Infected will simply rot away, leaving the world once again clean and pure? I'll have to remember to study the next specimen we capture.

July 11th, 2019
A caravan of well-fed survivors passed through our camp today. They said they came from a city of survivors in the South, near Florida. I asked about the Infected situation and they said they'd encountered a fair number of Infected en route, but once they'd reached the Appalachians the numbers of the Infected began to thin. I have no speculation on the subject, other than that it might have something to do with the climate. Either that, or someone in the area is hunting them to extinction. Both cases are good for us. The caravan was loaded with all sorts of goods. They said their city was well-defended and had begun to return to a semblance of normal life. They had factories and houses, all behind armored steel gates of course. They were looking to trade for supplies they couldn't produce in the city, especially fuel and metals. We traded them a veritable mountain of aluminum cans which Dohan had fished out of the garbage, which they said they would make into lightweight weapons for their soldiers. In exchange, we received a shotgun, and a supply of pistol casings, which will finally allow us to make our own ammunition!

July 24th, 2019
Deathlord caught another raider thief skulking around the camp. He brained him with his shovel, but unfortunately the thief died from his wounds before we could question him. At least he won't be able to report back our location.

October 1st, 2019
The camp is beginning to grow restless. It's been two months since anything of note has occurred. Some, like Booky, seem to be happy with the stability and return to a semi-normal life. Others, Gaweir in particular, have been restlessly stirring up trouble out of boredom. Although I hate to risk lives unnecessarily, it may be prudent to send out supply-gathering expeditions, if only to give people something to do.

73
Gaweir thumbs the safety off the zip gun with a menacing glare set on his face. "What do you want, eh?"

Seriously, need to get this on the roll again, because besides Jackrabbit's story, I'm not writing in character form, only journal, and I'll stop writing entries unless an update comes along.

Sorry, I've had a lot on my plate recently. Both RL and online. The story will continue at some point, hopefully next Monday at the earliest.

74
OoC: How are you going to have the council affect the path of the camp?

Basically I'd like the members of the council to act as advisors as to what should happen next. They'd be making the decisions from a roleplaying perspective, so they wouldn't know anything the characters didn't know, but they could decide to, say, declare war on the Corporates in order to steal their precious weapons, or whatever.

Voting starts tomorrow, so everyone please PM me your vote. PM me if your character is choosing to abstain from voting as well, otherwise I might think you haven't seen the voting thing and I'll end up choosing a vote for you.

Edit: Also, just to clear things up: each person gets one vote, and the two with the highest number of votes will become council members.

I'll take "fat" as "xaque". Since probably no one else will.
