General Discussion / Re: I like anime, do you like anime?

Shoujou manga can be pretty strange.
It's making all the stupidity and cliches of generic shonen battle shit seem pretty tame, I'll admit.

I suspect that this is actually pretty close in nature and tone to romance-genre novels, except a little more rape-y because Japan. Not that I'm in any rush to find out; it's a lot easier to skim manga than pure text. :|
Delayed response, but there's not terribly much difference in the rapey bit, actually. I've read enough bodice rippers in my time. Not a lot, but definitely plural. I don't quite regret it, but it's a close thing.

Same sentiment for shoujou manga, really, except there's less regret because you can at least stare in wonder at the illustrations instead of pay attention to the dialogue and plot.

You can only do that if you're a daemon. Human followers, no matter how corrupted, are still anchored to their bodies.
I'unno man, I'm pretty sure a corrupted biologis could figure something out. Maybe even a plain ol' heretek. Never mind the full on sorcerers. If there's not the occasional psyker roaming around the imperium doing body swaps for giggles, I'd be terribly surprised.

... could almost swear something like that shows up in one of the novels, actually. Something about one of the (human) antagonists showing up in a different body.

*shrugs* It might have been if it had been the SR2 folks selling it directly, depending on whatever the contract you agreed to to purchase was. As is, more a refund issue. I guess if there was an offline commercial equivalent it'd be like stuff on layaway or in transit being recalled or somethin'. You wouldn't get the product, but you'd get your money back.

Near as I could tell the bundle folks weren't giving them a better option, and the only thing the devs could confirm on their end was redeemed or not, instead of sold or not. So they did what they could, after spending a few days trying all they could to do otherwise. At least they didn't void the redeemed copies, too... apparently that's a thing that's been happening a bit lately, with similar situations.

Where do I start with getting into battletech proper. I mean as in the stuff besides the mechwarrior games. Like the books and the tabletop and such
Jeez, this is a bit belated. Book wise, I can tell you most of 'em seem pretty self-contained. There's trilogies/series and an overarching history, but generally you can just pick up any of them and not really have much in the way of problem. I... can't really say more than that, because I think it's been well over a decade since I last read a BTech novel and I can't even remember any names, much less which one to recommend starting with, but... yeah. I just jumped into whatever I could find in the bookstore when I was younger, and it didn't seem to hurt enjoyment et al much, if at all. So just get whatever if you're not acquiring the entire btech library in one go. Can't recall much, but I don't remember any of what I read (maybe a half dozen to a dozen of the books?) being particularly terrible, so there shouldn't be too much of an issue on that front.

... there's also some pretty nice fanfics out there, if you're into that sort of thing.

It's called corruption, honey. That and a sufficiently dedicated electorate.

Yeah, looks like some sort of odd miscommunication between bundle stars and the SR2 folks. Seems like the thing wasn't supposed to be in the bundle to begin with, and there was some sort of snafu (details probably locked behind contract agreements, judging by the look of some of the dev communication about this) that led to the unredeemed keys being voided instead of something more... elegant. Definitely a bit unfortunate.

For what it's worth, it looks like SR2 might be going for about seven bucks within the next week or two, if your friend is still interested. Lil' bit more, but eh.

$5 for bundle with Star Ruler 2: https://www.bundlestars.com/en/bundle/killer-bundle-8
Huh. It looks like between yesterday and today they removed it from the bundle. Bloody shame, I had actually talked myself into spending the money at that price. Shouldn't have waited a day or two, apparently :-\

E: Oh, ouch. Apparently any unredeemed keys have been voided, too. Hope no one got the bundle aiming for SR2 and waited a bit before processing it...

Survival type setups are usually where it's most represented... swarms of aliens, stuff like that. There's a handful that are sold, but most of it's probably found in custom maps for other games and flash junk. Doesn't seem to get much love out of anyone professional, anyway.

If you can't win, settle for making everyone lose.
The storied half-Genghis, eh? This guy knows what's up.

Though with those sorts of games, it's usually a last-side-standing sort of thing. You don't have to survive the cockroaches, you just have to make sure they finish eating everyone else first. Kinda' like bears and running speed.

E: Actually, that's always a game type that's been fairly amusing and generally incredibly underrepresented so far as anything commercial goes. Ones where the purpose is not to win, but to lose last (or least, depending on how it's measured).

Interesting idea, but arizona's already among the cheapest in the nation, as far as I can tell. Trying to drive values lower than it is like arguing with an idiot -- it'll pull you down to its level and beat you with experience :-\

Plus my immediate area's already about as low as it gets before the pricing starts demonstrating just how much you want to not live there, iirc. Rural north florida ain't exactly ball breaking, or all that poverty would be even less sustainable.

Well, I do exercise my constitution given right to own firearms. Not quite sure how you're suggesting to apply that, though. Maybe spell it out a bit more clearly?

That was what I was thinking about, although in that case they had the option of making diagonal moves take 1.4 times as long as orthogonal moves. That clearly isn't an option in Civ since it's strictly turn-based.

Just using hex tiles and avoiding weird non-Euclidean square grids is more intuitive really.
Bloody things are a sodding nightmare to navigate with just about anything except a mouse, though. Hex movement and thinking around it has always been kind of a pain in the ass if you've spent much time beforehand dealing with square/4 or 8 directions based stuff, imo... which has kinda' been the standard most control interfaces in the last few decades have been designed around. So it's pretty likely hexes are going to be at odds with a lot of what someone's been trained to see normal. Regardless of how unintuitive it's supposed to be.

Personally, the intuitive has long been those non-euclidean squares. Takes the same amount of time for a queen to move in any direction, dagnabbit.

Stepdad nearly burnt the house down. He put a piece of chicken in the oven, then went to sleep. He had a timer on it(that was going off when me and my mother walked in the door), but it wasn't the timer that shuts off the oven.

Oh man I've done that twice in my life. Once when I was living with my parents and once when I was living on my own. When I was living on my own I didn't wake up at all and the fire just burnt itself out eventually, I was really lucky that it didn't catch anything in my kitchen on fire.
... won't lie, the concept of going to sleep when cooking is incredibly foreign to me. It's like intentionally getting on the highway, getting up to sixty or seventy, and then taking a nap. On purpose, still behind the wheel. Or waving a loaded gun in someone's face or somethin'.

S'like. Who exactly are you trying to kill, here? How has the concept of "fire hot" managed to leave your mind to the extent this seemed like a good idea?

General you, mind, not anyone specific. It's just a mindset that's incredibly boggling to me. Basic kitchen safety was drilled in too hard, I guess, to the point people ignoring it (for whatever reason) approaches an outside context problem. Which is kinda' weird considering I'm more self-taught than not.

... somewhat unfortunate being that I currently live with someone that does that sort of thing semi-often. I think I've been stopping the kitchen from catching fire every other month or so for the last year :-\

I love how desensitized y'all are. The director of Abu Ghraib is running prisons in the USA now with suspicious deaths going on, and Americans are just like "meh". It's like I could point out that Literal Hitler is running law enforcement in some state, and you guys point out "well not every state is run by literal Hitler. The rest are only 30% Hitler."
... well, what exactly do you expect us to do? Basically everyone that's not in the immediate vicinity of the bastard thinks that he's a bastard, but there's only so much you can do about it besides express discontent and whatnot. Which people do. Regularly. Occasionally pretty loudly. Which is about the extent they're capable of unless you want them to round up a posse and drive probably-hundreds of miles to go murder people, and then end up in prison and/or killed by cops.

Huh. Is there any way to get around the protection cap? Was kinda' disappointed watching that antiquarian/man-at-arms thing where the +prot goes over 100, but the stat itself stopping at 80...
