Not particularly, ak. I definitely preferred krypta in M1, no question. Skeletons helped a lot with not having to deal with paying attention to the town.

The secret is that's inspiration, too :P

Authors are historically plagiaristic as all hell. Have no shame in mimicking the greats, heh, and that is definitely just that. If the readers can't tell the names of people and events have been filed off, then the names haven't been filed off even if they've been filed off >_>

I think I'm getting an idea for a short story.

Is it cheating if you think you know a way to take actual things that happened to you and/or relatives, some family legends and stories, mishmash and alter them and change the atmosphere to make a story? I seem to really lack the creativity to come up with something entirely new :I
Not even the littlest bit. Many, many authors use real life events and individuals as inspiration and whatnot. It's ridiculously common and not even remotely cheating.

Have to say, though, I am now a little curious as to comparative armories. How many guns per officer each enforcement system is floating, maybe respective equipment expenditures. Dunno if I've ever seen that particular statistic before...

S'actually something I vaguely recall being an issue in the US -- something about budgetary constraints meaning a lot of their funding can only be spent on equipment, even when they badly need better personnel (training, recruitment, etc.) funding.

Do you see?
You certainly don't.

You don't because I have your eyes.

I have them right here:

The more egregious examples are pennies on the hour for stuff that would be over minimum wage outside the prison, and at times the extent it's voluntary has been... questionable. I guess some of it you could call "merely" disgustingly exploitative. Some of it's just been forced labor outright.

I'm actually okay with that in moderation and not for profit (i.e. community service), but profit motivated is a little too close to the southern state home, y'ken?

Our legal system doesn't recognize ignorance as a defense :P

As for awareness, yeah, know they're around. Tour, not so much. Not even sure if most of them would let you unless you were a major investor. They're not exactly public property. Been in a couple of state owned ones, though, either as part of a student tour or accompanying someone visiting an inmate.

Stories about conditions and whatnot do hit the news occasionally, though, and they're usually not exactly good. Not surprising considering news is news these days, but also not surprising because hey, when you incentivize penal slavery and max profit conditions, you get what you pay for.

The spirit of roguelikes would just be calling them AoS games. Or arena, or tug of war or whatev', depending on the style. AoS was the Rogue of the primary genre being discussed. Worked just fine getting the point across for years, dagnabbit.

I'm pretty sure 3PS is a shipping designation, if you we're aiming for a different third person acronym.

... which is a plus, to me. Makes new articles and ads and whatnot more amusing.

Nah, those both still seem to do a pretty decent job at killing people. Not truly non-lethal (which is why less than lethal was coined, heh). We need space magic of some sort. Maybe nanomachines, I'unno.

Sorta'. It's also being used for a few other things, not just AoS style ones. Mostly arena map knockoffs, sometimes tug-of-war rehashes, probably stuff I'm forgetting. Still WC3 custom maps, just less differentiated and with a bland name that pisses on the AoS style's potential as a genre and conflates it with stuff that deserves entirely different design direction.

You can't deny being this shitty at some point in time.

I actually can, since I've never tried to reveal the identity of a public figure with a known hostile audience.
This is US election-cycle level stuff, right here. It's hard to "reveal" information that already exists. Plus the information was straight up wrong. Many things this was, doxxing it was not.

Though I guess that was all mentioned when you posted the exact same thing in the wtf thread, now that I notice it. Eh.

AoS?

Only know HoN.
Aeon of Strife, what all these things were called/descended from back when they were SC/WC3 custom maps. DotA was an AoS map, Tides of Blood was an AoS map, the various AoS maps were AoS maps, so on, so forth. Kinda' like the use of roguelike, just AoS instead of rogue. They use a different acronym these days but sod that. They've been AoS since the beginning and AoS they shall remain.

Most AoS knockoffs seem to be, really.

That seems to take care of itself fairly well when some sort of overwatch organization is in place, really.
