General Discussion / Re: Things that made you go "WTF?" today o_O

Man, adventures in updating. Brought firefox to the latest version, hoping it'd fix a problem I was having with Twitter. Didn't, but then the weird shit. Not only did the update somehow fuck flash performance sideways (we're talking the cpu use at 360p was double what it was at 720), but it also managed to somehow convince itself the browser/OS combination was incapable of playing HD content, when it was perfectly happy to with an older version. I don't understand what the hell happened, here.

I didn't need to to promptly turn around and reinstall the older version, but still. Still.

This keeps sodding happening. There was a point in the past browser upgrades actually tended to make things better for me, or at least not bend the program over for a reaming. Somehow that time appears to be passing.

Tyrian 2k's friggin' great. Carrot of death! Also all the art assets are apparently completely free to the public now, which is double great because they're pretty darn nice, too.

Eh. Depends on what you call friend, I guess. I'd call a number of folks around here relatively positive acquaintances (and a notable amount that I have a decent working relationship with) but friends not so much. Casual friends, maybe, but I wouldn't trust 'em one bit with any amount of truth regarding ideological inclinations. People I can be around without feeling a strong compulsion to stab but not someone I'd particularly want to spend the day with.

No, no, that's fairly true. It's just somewhat less likely for two folks of separate political ideology to have too much in common in other areas. It still happens, but usually if two people disagree too much on political positions they're going to disagree on a lot of other things and probably not be all that friendly. Far from impossible, but less likely than two folks that are aligned similarly.

S'fairly often for disparate folks that do get along have an either tacit or very explicit agreement to not talk politics.

Still, beyond all that most folks just don't really spend much time on political subjects. It's definitely not a primary activity -- secondary or tertiary at best, for most people. You get occasional discussions or whatnot, but interactions almost always are a lot more focused on any number of other things.

I... don't actually hear politics spoken of much in public, generally. It happens, but the sentiment tends to be that it's not a thing for polite company, and it's rather common for conversations to be rather pointedly redirected when the subject comes up.

There's, uh. Also generally pretty explicit warnings to not talk politics at risk of job security in a lot of businesses, among things of similar nature. Primary social activities still seem to mostly be sports (particularly if you include hunting and fishing and whatnot in that category), non-news entertainment media, and booze. And I guess church. Not so much religion, mind, but definitely church.

Ooooh, that's one thing that always gets to me. xD
Why is Nurgle called Papa Nurgle?! It's...strangely darkly humorous. ._.
'Cause he's a father figure that loves 'is children, no matter what -- he's called Papa Nurgle because he loves and supports his followers, as any parent should. Nurgle is the Chaos god of Familial Love, basically... among a few other things.

... there is apparently nothing on this computer able to run video content off of twitter. What the hell, twitter.

Opera classic, no. Firefox, no. Friggin' IE, no. Nothing. Chrome can go stuff itself, not on this computer and won't be. What the blue hell did that damn website do between the last time I played something animated on it and now?

I'm pretty sure you would if they just got both and left you in a sufficiently out of the way ditch. You don't have an option besides tolerate if you're dead~

I'm kinda surprised Vader never fixed any of that himself. He was a skilled mechanic/droid builder/pilot/swordfighter after all.
Are you going to try to pull a runaround on the prescient space wizard that pretty literally rules the galaxy? He could fix it, but if he tried then he gets the force lightning interrupt.

... in complete honesty, I can't recall watching a single episode of anime in... months.* It's all been LNs and stuff, and occasionally catching up with The Gamer. Though I kinda' want to re-read that one with the T-Rex detective and the skullman. Totes forgot the name, unfortunately, and I'm pretty sure it was... substantially NSFW.

Bucketload of those things I've every intention of keeping an eye on, though. Pretty sure there's dozens I've caught up to the limits of translation on, this year, and are totally willing to read more. Really need to get around to figuring out how to RSS stuff on my tablet >_>

*E: Except that fanservice analysis one, now that I remember. Eh.

Now now m, the sole heuristic being looked at was partisanship, not general discord, or somethin' along those lines. So far that goes it does look like there's been a slow ramp in separation for a fair long while.

Not really sure what folks expect, though. Lot of the points of ideological departure don't really have a metaphorical halfway point these days, or the halfway point was reached years ago and now is what's being fought over. Folks lament over the lack of bipartisanship, but what's the alternative?

... y'know, there is an LN/WN or something series titled "level 999 villager". If you wanted to see the conceit sorta' in action. S'alright as its sort of stories go.

... 2014 definitely had some assaults related to political differences, yes.

Honestly, I'm trying to think of a potus election in the last couple of decades that didn't have at least some violence involved. Can't remember if there was a year where something like that didn't hit headlines a few times...

E: And it looks like the last time we had a congressional fistfight was over a century ago. Part of me wonders if the perception of increased violence and partisanship isn't more of that ruddy news saturation effect being its usual jackass self. Almost certainly is in part, at the least. Probably be interesting to see numbers on POTUS cycle political violence, but I'm currently entirely too exhausted to go looking and don't really care that much t'boot so eh.

The intelligence requirements and epileptic bans were almost certainly part of the eugenics movement. I know epilepsy was disproportionately feared when it wasn't very well understood, so it may seem weirdly specific now.
That would explain it, huh. Assuming it wasn't anything odder. Cheers, curiosity sated.

Also yeah, an amendment to change the performance of a non-government organization, particularly a political one, is, uh. I'm fairly sure it would be unconstitutional as all hell.

E: And yeah, as m notes it'd be kinda' pointless, unless by dissolved you mean "dissolved in acid". Doesn't help much to break apart a more or less voluntary organization when the people that formed it are still there >_>
